Black Fists Space Marines

Hmm, surprisingly I've never owned on of those pieces...Though from the look of it, I don't think the fan blades are close enough together. (That could have always been changed though) Thanks for that tip, but see below, I think I've got it set. ;)

After fiddling around with the technique, like suggested, (and four flops later) I think I have a pretty solid fan. I'm happy enough with it that I can just touch it up with greenstuff or something. This time at 2AM, good thing I got 10 hours of sleep last night ;)

Also played a whole lot of minecraft and the Sims 3 tonight.. of course burning down my house (and others'), in both...

Edit, just found these... The biggest are 1mm too large for the large engines, and the second biggest are 1mm too small for the small engines... :/ hmm

Something to post I guess. I'm calling this guy done. I'd love to add more freehand, but I'll do that later, if I ever get around to do it. Ignore the wobbly red line on the shoulderpad... I was having trouble getting the paint on the brush...it'd dry by time it got to the model, and I didn't want to risk having too much paint on the tip of the brush. (yes, even with watered down paint)

Also, here is the next guy up. I cut his hands to model him to look like he is aiming his gun, just to glue the hands back in almost the exact same position -__-. So waste of time there. But when I pushed him into what will be the mud, which wasn't quite dry, he made a large indent, so I ran with it. I'll make it look like his foot is pushing the mud away...hopefully. And throw in some muddy snow, also hopefully. I'll throw some pouches and brass etch on him tomorrow (I almost forgot). Hopefully the next time you see him, he'll have paint...

And while washing the resins earlier today... this!

Scared the (burning)pants off me! I was able to save the part though, thank goodness. ;) And yes, I have to clean my sink -__- I haven't cleaned it in a couple days (maybe about 8) and the paint is crusting it up! D: D: D:

No progress on the Thunderhawk front. Put that on the bookshelf, so its now on the backburner...Especially with midterms coming up shortly.

That shoulderpad nearly gave me a heart attack! XD Thanks for the kind words mate. :D

Well, its 4:30AM, and I'm up talking to a bunch of you all on Skype right now! I found that I all of a sudden got really productive on the 40k front at around 3:30, so I started on the cockpit. First with sculpting the seat cushions to be molded up for the next three seats. Then I derped around and finally came up with a separater for the front/back sections, and made a kind of desk for the navigator and gunner out of a choice piece of scrap that was cut to fit already! I'll add one to the front when I get the chance. :) None of this is glued, by the way. The only things that are glued are the boxes that make up the seats, and the center console in the front. But those are just placeholders, really.

Now I just need to figure out how I want to situate the arms, since things are getting more and more cramped by the second!

Thanks gents. Probably won't be getting much done this weekend unfortunately, not with a couple parties and an essay to finish..and two exams on Wednesday and Thursday...so.. I'll maybe see you next week!

Well guys, after a heavy week of studies, I have started to slowly pick this log back up. Throughout the week, I had slowly been green stuffing the flight deck, though not much. (but more than I should have, looking at the results of the exams...) I like how the seats have turned out, though the rear seats are kind of small.. Oh well.

I started tonight, by cutting out the card for the paneling and such.

http://i379.photobucket.com/albums/oo234/shortsonfire80/IMG_2472.jpg

The fella with the arm will be the captain because the Storm Raven pilot didn't have a left handed pilot. I have all the bitz picked out for the crew, I'm just waiting for the choice moment to put them on. I have some nice metal shoulder pads from GW that I'll be using for these guys. I may have to do some sculpting of hands for some of the guys, but I think that will be alright.

The top-third-from-the-left meter will need to be redone, but that'll be after it dries so I can just replace it.

http://i379.photobucket.com/albums/oo234/shortsonfire80/IMG_2471.jpg

http://i379.photobucket.com/albums/oo234/shortsonfire80/IMG_2470.jpg

You can see some sketches of what I plan for the paneling. For the forward flight deck, there are four rectangles in the center, those will be meters that will be gauging the output of the engines. The four lines down the center will be the engine controls, like what can commonly be seen on the flight deck of a B747. For the rear flight deck, the one on the left is the gunner, so he will have four meters for the ammo on the heavy bolters, the long meter is for the turbolaser, and there will be two gauges for the lascannons. In front of both of the men in the back will be keyboards, if I can sculpt them properly. The navigator (rear right) will have four square screens, though I don't know what those will be yet.

The only things glued down so far are the legs to the seats (but the seats themselves aren't glued down yet) and the pilot's body and arm. So there is still tons of time for alterations if need be.

Thanks for looking fellas. :(

A simple and effective way to do the instrument panels; I like it very much. I see you have rectangular instruments penciled in. Are you going to add those too or was that a thought before the round greenstuff instruments. I ask because I think you need to have those rectangular shapes in there to break up the pattern a little.

Those are going in. I just wanted to let the round ones dry before I got to the square ones. I'll probably model them after the ones GW made on the Land Speeders, those seem like a pretty solid design to me.

Thanks for liking the round ones. ;)

Well, tiny update here. Not much worth noting at all really. But before someone goes and says that I need front winglets, I just want to let you know that I cut them out, just haven't covered them in card yet.http://i379.photobucket.com/albums/oo234/shortsonfire80/IMG_2489.jpg

And this guy is almost done. Just need to finish up the metals, and do some details and hes done. I like how the modeling of the base turned out, though I don't really like the color. I thought that it looked like what some chicken grease looks like as its half-congealed, and my art school friend thought that it looked like caramel. I think its the shininess, so I'm going to see if giving it a drybrush of some light brown will help that.

I'm quite pleased that I can finish a full model in just about two and a half hours. One hour for the blues and blacks, another for details, and the last half for the base. The pics will be washed out here, because I turned the exposure time up by 2/3 (of a second?) so that you could actually see the colors.

And sometime later down the road, I hope to clean this external HDD up a bit. Barely 200 free gigs on a 2 tb drive. Yes, you can all comment about the 1tb video folder. ;) Though HD movies and TV series' take up quite a lot of space too.

Thanks Dark Apostle! I doubt you'll see the hawk finished before next Christmas... I started the Exterminus in 2008!!!!! D: D: D: D: D: D:

Finished up the third guy. I really had to push to get him done. I really don't like how his right shoulderpad turned out, so I'm just not going to bother showing it. The rest of him turned out pretty well, though he could have been better.

http://i379.photobucket.com/albums/oo234/shortsonfire80/IMG_2490.jpg

http://i379.photobucket.com/albums/oo234/shortsonfire80/IMG_2492.jpg

Also assembled the next guy. This was a huge pain in the arse. It took me at least a half an hour to figure out how the heavy bolter worked, even with the pictures from FW. I don't think I've had that much trouble with superglue in...3 years. So much frustration! It looks alright now, a bit wonky, but it'll pass. The arm is still wobbly, which I'm not too sure why, so I'll just load up more superglue in the join tomorrow.

http://i379.photobucket.com/albums/oo234/shortsonfire80/IMG_2493.jpg

I've also been working on some background that I started up a couple years ago (Back when they were...The Royal Redeemers) and I hope to finally get them fleshed out on the B&C IA area. I'll spare you the details, but the best part is, when I was trying to figure out what chapter number they'd be, (GK are 666 for example) I had my gf run a random number generator from 500-1000, and the number that came up was 792. 79 being my favorite/commonly used number, and 2 being the third try for this army (Royal Redeemers, Sapphire Saints, Black Fists) and when I say third try, I'm counting RR as 790. So it was an odd coincidence, one that I didn't even notice until a week later!

And then I found twenty bucks. ;)

Alright well, thats all from me today. Peace out! :P

I'm curious... does the forge world heavy bolter ammo box come as a separate part?

On the bolter wielding marine, might I suggest a few small highlights? Maybe some contrasting ones on the bolter, or his face. The bolter is kinda flat, and the helmet is hidden in shadow.

What don't you like on him/feel like changing or touching up?

And just because you haven't heard it enough... : P I love the lego supports in the thunderhawk and the details in the cockpit. I hacked up a gundam model for some thrusters and am looking for some of the single pipe jet pieces they used to have, directional thrusters and whatnot. That whole thing is a clear engineering masterpiece, and I'm very impressed.
