I've just had a big surprise: my Iron Crusaders are actually canon! A chapter with that name appears on a map in the 5th edition Codex, and there is even a Lexicanum page for it ( http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Iron_Crusaders#.TuNYRmMkDzs ) although it gives no information. Now, what should I do? O_o

Well, you can decide that your Chapter is what the canon Chapter might be, retaining the name. Alternately, you might decide to change the Chapter name to something that isn't canon. If you decide on the former, Phil has indicated that he plans on expanding the project to allow for homegrown variants on Chapters (he'll have to respond with the details on that - I can't speak authoritatively on his behalf). If you choose the latter, your DIY Chapter may be included in the project as yours en toto.

Unfortunately the black purity seal was removed so I could add the symbols on, if you want it to be reattached I'll see if I can fix that.

Thanks for your counsel, brother. I think I'll take the first option, since there's hardly any official background on the Iron Crusaders. The Lexicanum page only says that they're a fleet-based chapter; it won't be much trouble, changing the backstory I had written for them to account for that.

@ Arianod - I double checked and the Iron Crusaders are already in the gallery. Your options are pretty much as Brother Tyler laid out. I'll save a copy of your chapter for the future update, but when that will come about is anyone's guess (probably after I get the Prime List up to 1,000).

@ Hrvat - I'll add the Knights Encarmine to the next update (to double check - it is 'Knights Encarmine' not 'Knight Encarmine'?)

@ Brother Cambrius - sterling work (as always!). Thank you :jaw:

@ Brother Tyler - thanks for your assistance ^_^

O.K.! As you said, the chapter is already in the gallery, but without any pictures associated to it. So, when I've finished and published my IA for the Iron Crusaders, the link for it and my picture can go there. Am I right?

@ Arianod - all the canon chapters without an image are put in as blanks. At a later date I'll add some asterisks after the canon chapter's name that will link to fan made versions. When this feature is added I can include a link to the Iron Crusaders via one of these asterisk.

I've made some changes to the Praetorian Guard. I hope the fluff isnt to bad. I know I'm not much of a writter.

@ Marine5 - I'll use your new IA when I next update. Out of interest, how stable is the new IA, specifically the link? Is your IA a continuous WIP, and if so are you going to update that IA page, rather than create new ones? It's easier for me if you have one page I can link to that has the current IA in all it glory.

@ emperorslion - nice finds, and sterling work! I'll add them all in the next update. I take it; that along with the Crimson Furies and Crimson Praetorians, that the Dragonslayers, Shadow Hawks, and Untouchables are also not found on the Lexicanum?

If you have the White Dwarfs, could you source me a quote for each? I like to have a quote for my Obscure Chapters page ;)

Yeah, no Lexi. No quotes either. I went back to see if there were anything usable, but the Dragonslayers, and Shadow Hawks were just listed as ways to use the Black Templar sprue. The Untouchables were part of a report on team tournaments as part of an inquisition force.

The Crimson Furies had the Traits : no mercy, no Respite; We stand alone. I think this makes an awesome battlecry.

A Crimson Praetorian Sgt. was featured as a way to do a simple conversion to make a dynamic pose. When GW was still selling individual bits by mail order.

I have finally found after trawling through my White Dwarf magazines another Obscure Chapter from the December 2008 WD from the UK regarding the Space Marines' Liber Apocalyptica article on page 38. As said within:

During the Scouring of Hexdragon XXIV in 345.M38 a situation arose where all three of these occurred in a single battle. Elements of the newly arrived Iron Shield Chapter had suffered severe casualties amongst their Assault Marines during the assault of the Despot of Hexdragon's battle fortress. With all members of the Chapter's Battle Companies fully engaged, Commander Shakirax ordered the troops of the 10th Scout Company be issued with jump packs, so that they could fulfil the role instead. Despite suffering casualties in excess of 90%, the Scouts overwhelmed the defenders of the Obsidian Tower, and the fortress fell.

@Hrvat - seems your chapter has changed its name from 'Knights Encarmine' to 'Angels of Malediction'?

@Marine5 - your Praetorian Guard chapter has been added. If you update your chapter please use the same page B)

@emperorslion - the Iron Cranes, Crimson Furies, Crimson Praetorians, Dragonslayers, and Untouchables have been added to the project. The Shadow Hawks were already listed but I used your image to updated them :) Thank you for tracking these down.

Since hitting the 1,000 mark new DIYs need a full IA to get in, so I'll wait until your have one for the 'Righteous Angels' before adding them.

@Brother Cambrius - thanks. I've added the Iron Shield chapter to the project.

Cheers Philip. I don't think you'd believe me if I had said how long I've had that chapter on my mind since you started looking for obscure Chapters. B) :)

I cannot think of any, I think everyone's added the others on my mind...but I do have a large number of White Dwarf magazines from the early 90s...When I one day go through them all I'm sure there will be plenty new obscure chapters discovered.

Project update request

I've changed the Emperor's Eagles from MIA to Canon! This 'canon' version was submitted by Inquisitor S over on my Warseer thread. Apparently it was in White Dwarf 74 French edition that came out in June 2000. As the project accepts any chapter appearing in a White Dwarf as 'canon', it seems only fair to include the French version. Inquisitor S mentions that a lot of White Dwarf articles are translations, so I'm wondering if the Emperor's Eagles turned up in any of the English language editions (USA/ UK)?

If you have a copy of White Dwarf from June 2000 could you check and see if you can find the Emperor's Eagles? (You'll have to go by the date not the number, as the numbers do not match up across different language editions)

Whatever you find please post it here, and I'll update the Obscure Chapter's Page.
