Beef
the sculpting is cool, the wolves look scary, I think they look kinda thin, the head look chunky enough but the body looks to thin in comparison Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/179343-how-to-convert-thunderwolves/page/12/#findComment-2441201 Share on other sites

MaleOpener
Outstanding ideas all around! You guys got talent! Â ( passes around ale ) ... and make sure to throw your empty mug at the fireplace before leaving ;) Â Â I'm not one for conversions myself, and the rare chance I do one its so slight that people just don't see it! Â I prefer using GW models, so I'm inclined to try my hand at using the white lions with wolf parts. I might go to as far as using the brass etchings from ForgeWorld to cover the high elf runes on the shoulders. Â Just FYI, I've e-mailed ForgeWorld a few times with the suggestion of Thunderwolves/TWC. If, and when, I recieve a reply I'll post it here. You can easily cover the runes with a thin layer of Greenstuff...which you should probably do to get the shoulders the proper shaggy fur look anyways. The real problem I have found with doing the white lion models is getting the muzzle to look right. CainTheHunter
Today I recieved the Dire Wolf model from the Avatars of War. I will try to post some pics for size comparison with marines this evening - but looking at it now, it might work for TWL conversion. It needs sculpting the saddle however, If it will turn out smaller, at least I will have a mean looking Fenrisian wolf or Cyberwolf :eek Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/179343-how-to-convert-thunderwolves/page/12/#findComment-2468022 Share on other sites

Stormbrow II
Taken from the other legit TWC thread:  Shameless plug. They're in the Thunderwolf Cavalry post. I've been trying to make these for a while and they're 95% done, needing a bit of base work and transfers. I took them to a tournament last weekend and no-one had any problems with them.  They're all GW parts and are a decent size; you'll get an idea from the first pic with the Dread in between them.  http://i167.photobucket.com/albums/u134/StormbrowII/DSC01781.jpg  EDIT: Pics. CainTheHunter
This is the dire wolf from the Avatars of War. I guess it's the same size as the Russian thunderwolves from e-bay. A bit smaller than I expected but I hope to knock out some decent conversion out of him.  http://content21-foto.inbox.lv/albums136010859/emils_photo/Space-wolves/Image00003-1.jpg  http://content21-foto.inbox.lv/albums136010862/emils_photo/Space-wolves/Image00004-1.jpg  http://content21-foto.inbox.lv/albums136010864/emils_photo/Space-wolves/Image00005.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/179343-how-to-convert-thunderwolves/page/12/#findComment-2469505 Share on other sites
Fred Johnson the 3rd jr
I have gotten the wolves from thunderbolt mountain and they would work great as a fenrisian wolf, but are a bit small for a thunder wolf. For my thunder wolves i used the D&D miniatures dire wolf. Â How big are dire wolf bases? Do you need to slap a dreadnought 60mm base underneath the dire wolf base? Â Â Â Because my conversion skills are non-existent, I think I am going to go with a cheap non-GW option, like these dire wolves. The resin models look nice, but require more work and are more expensive... and if I go the cheap way, I won't feel so bad if in a year or two I have to buy GW ones (if I want to play wolf cavalry in a tournament). Fred Johnson the 3rd jr
For my thunder wolves i used the D&D miniatures dire wolf. Â How big are dire wolf bases? Do you need to slap a dreadnought 60mm base underneath the dire wolf base? Â Hello past self, I can answer this question for you. The dire wolf base is probably around 45 mm. You either attach the wolf, base and all, to a 60mm dreadnought base, or you cut the dire wolf off its base and attach it to the dreadnought base directly. Knowing how lazy you are, I bet you will stick the two bases together. fivepointedstar
i alway have around 6 HE converted War Lions. I (dont at times) like them much myself, cause i am a mix of lazy and my green stuff-fu is very very weak. i have seen several EXCELLENT conversions though, so it ultimately is with the modeler to do their best. i keep them anyways, as they are a point of pride for me (no other Wolf in the area has TWC) and there is no official model yet.  WLK Space Lions its like "Thunder Cats", would be cool to do for a lone wolf model being some big cats are single ambush hunters Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/179343-how-to-convert-thunderwolves/page/12/#findComment-2482803 Share on other sites
ThatGingerDude
it has been a while since there has been a post on this topic, so here goes: the upcoming plastic bloodcrushers have potential. the codex does mention mechanical thunderwolves with cybernetic parts. possibly a vid-steel convertion is in order :D may get some myself ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/179343-how-to-convert-thunderwolves/page/12/#findComment-2492569 Share on other sites
marine77
I started 40k with Black Templars, so I copped out and used those models to theme out my Space Wolf list. Therefore, my Thunderwolf Cav are Thunderhoof Cav. They are all riding Bretonnian Warhorses from WFB.
