Oldenhaller
They are nice - just a shame they're all one pose. Being resin I'd be worried about chopping it to repose them. As they're large aswell and over 50% of the model is non-gw (legs included) then they'd not be tourney legal (which would be a shame) ~O Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/179343-how-to-convert-thunderwolves/page/6/#findComment-2221999 Share on other sites

I don't think GW could refuse to let you use them if they are modelled well, considering they don't actually have a TWC model per se. Buying 5 canis's is just stoopid, particularly when the model looks more like an emaciated cow than wolf. :D And Hovokas, yes they do have them on ebay. I bought mine last thursday and paid for them, there were some left. Niiai
http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c205/SteelShade/Space%20Wolves/IMG_4417.jpgmy first attempt, funny part was that I didn't have to cut the legs they fit right on with a little push. http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c205/SteelShade/Space%20Wolves/IMG_4420.jpg second attempt, I realized that the dire wolf was too small so I tried to make it larger. the white clay is just a cheap clay I was using as a filler and then I was going to put green stuff over it to make the fur. But while working on this I decided I want to know just how well thunder wolves are going to do in game before I set out to do so much work. so I did this next http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c205/SteelShade/Space%20Wolves/IMG_4422.jpg Left to right is an Iron Priest, Wolf Lord, regular Thunder Wolf http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c205/SteelShade/Space%20Wolves/IMG_4425.jpg I used Chaos Knights to make these, the heads are khorne berserker heads with the horns shaved off. Until a nice looking thunder wolf model comes out of GW, which it may never, I’m going to be using these for my Thunder Wolf Cavalry. I actually like the idea of riding a huge wolf into battle Wow. I realy like the second wolf based on the dire wolves with green stuff. I think I will copy this. :-) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/179343-how-to-convert-thunderwolves/page/6/#findComment-2222165 Share on other sites

The second one is actually very nice, but the body is too short (head is great tho). I've just ordered one so will let you lot know what it's like when it turns up, the other resin ones above haven't arrived yet either. Enhrjr
Anyone thought of using these guys and obtaining massive amount of GS to fix the legs and face? The thing is massive! http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/rhinoxc.htm for the amount they cost and the work involved, money and time is best spent elsewhere IMO. You'd be able to scratch build one rather than modify an expensive resin model from FW! Mammon
Are any of the wolves Havokas is using still on ebay? Are the Dire Wolves minis made by Reaper large enough to be used? Been trying to find cost effective models to use but so far no luck. I really want to field a few alongside my bikers. Only problem is I use my bikers for the "counts as". DapperDave
I've converted a total of 6 thunderwolves, 2 are completed, with the other 4 in the process of being painted. Three are from the Hordes line of minis: Wolf Lord Morraig War Wolf Kaya the Moonhunter & Laris Two are from the Unhallowed set of DnD minis: Vampire Dire Wolf One is from Hero Clix Hammer of Thor / Fenris Wolf The Hordes ones tend to be smaller, but more detailed and more expensive. The DnD and Hero Clix are larger, lighter, and cheaper, with the Hero Clix one being the largest. However, I've worked around this by adding some height to the hordes ones with extra terrain on the bases. This atleast keeps the heights consistent. And honestly, to me, some variance in size is fine... I've nicknamed the heroclix wolf "Haegr" :D Here's a shot with the smallest wolf (Wolf Lord Morraig) compared to the much larger hero clix one. http://i997.photobucket.com/albums/af93/DapperDave42/Space%20Wolves/Thunder%20Wolf%20Cavalry/cDSC_0089.jpg Hope this helps. ~Dave Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/179343-how-to-convert-thunderwolves/page/6/#findComment-2238050 Share on other sites

Beef
I see what you meen abouut lack of detail. The mini is a good size, I think its so affective more due to your paiting than the actual sculpt.
