How to convert thunderwolves

I'm still waiting for my different wolves to turn up for a decent size comparison :)

Ordered some on 16th dec and still not arrived!!!

It took 2 weeks to before they mailed them. But they did send me an email when the wolves shipped, and I got them about three weeks after that. So the 3-6 weeks was acurate in my case.

I shot Dave Taylor an email.

He's taking around $200 per wolf (unpainted). Well worth it in my book, but very expensive nonetheless...

Are you kidding? For those canis conversions above? Holy cr@p that's stupidly expensive, and the GS/Conversion work isn't that good, particularly on the wolves. Don't get me wrong, they are nice minis, but not $200 each nice. I would have baulked if he'd said $100, never mind $200

Canis is £25/$50, plus a bit of green stuff and some bits off a SW sprue, maybe a few hours converting, how did that stack to $200 I'll never know.

My whole thunderwolf unit and Lord on TWM won't add up to more than £60-70ish by the time I'm done, and I think that is expensive for a 4-5 man unit!

I would argue that manipulating lead figures is where the real skill (cost) becomes involved. Supply and demand I suppose. :)

I have a bunch of wulfen so I'm just doing 1 wulfen and 1 goblin rider wolf, which, I typically use for my fen wolves. I'm going to have them running along side each other on a 60 mm base.

A man after my own heart.

I'll be using a pack of hunting hounds with the huntsmen in tow. They'll be a mix of the plastic Goblin wolves and Dire Wolves as the exposed bone is perfect to show that most of them are bio-mech monstrosities. Some will have 2 heads aswell. In order for the Marines to keep up with their charges they will wear jump packs (I've finally found a use for those sucky Skyclaws) and be armed with what the actual Marine is equipped with.

What needs to happen first though is that the base will be built up and each one will be a mini-diorama with at least 2 wolves and a Marine on each base. I'm going to have them raised as tall as a Dreadnought in order to have them at an appropriate size.

Now all I have to do is get my hands on those big bases.

I got some TWC models for you to comment on. i used the Whammer fantasy lions from the HE chariots

and the heads from the chaos warhounds.

I ran out of green stuff before i could complete the tails

I also ran out of green stuff before I could sculpt the ears and brow. luckily, i had some blue tack handy.

go easy on me, its my first post.

thanks!! ^_^

I've been building quad bikes to represent my Thunderwolves. It's an easy conversion that is only costing about $25 per model. They fill out the 60mm base perfectly and will look good on the table. Not only that but they can be used as regular bikers if I decide to play another power armor codex. Although, me playing anything but SW in the near future is doubtful.

To be fair to Dave Taylor, his green stuff work on those wolves mimmicks the horrible sculpt of Fangir. The fur looks horrible on the metal and he has just copied it as best he can. As a coherent unit based around Canis they are fantastic and the best you are going to get. It is just a shame Fangir looks so crap in the first place.

I'd pay some Rackham sculpters £250 a figure to knock up a 'War Wolf' happily.
