Space Hulk Terminator Conversions

Are the SH Termies exactly the same size as the normal ones? If so, that is just moronic. People go out and buy a GW product, put them on proper gaming bases to liven up their armies and are forbidden to use them for no sound reasoning what so ever. What were they smoking when they came up with that rule?

Unfotunately it's because Games Workshop have silly rules that us staff have to follow. (I say us, I'm no longer a staff member) It's the same as stores not having specialist games in store. It's also to do with the up and coming release of the Blood Angels. They figure, for some reason, that if people can't use shiny Space Hulk models they'll buy the new BA ones instead!

i use a mix of scab red, blood red, gloss vanish and badack black for the blood. paint it on the areas and paint gloss vanish and badab black on this before its dry. after that paint more gloss vanish at it and your finished :)

Coming from a doctor, the blood on that base looks really nice, the darker areas look a lot like clotted blood and the gloss makes it look great. In terms of on the model, perhaps just a single diagonal splash across the model (produced from ripping it's head off), nothing overly extreme and then a few splashes over his boots next to a puddle on the floor. Remember, there is will not be a great deal of pressure squirting the blood out of the head (I am assuming a tyranid heart is in it's thorax) and not a huge volume of blood to poor out either. The remains of the body on the other hand...

May I just say, I'm a huge fan of these models, despite being Ultra :)

I like the subtle way you remove the BA symbols, I might do that to make some DA Termies... Yeah, you heard me! *Runs away from angry Space Wolf mob*

Thanks for the advise guys.

Ive added a splash and done some on the rear of the boot where the arm is being crushed.

I know Ultras are anal about having clean armour but to rip the head off a Tyranid and not get a drop on you takes some skill :)

really you guys cant use you space hulk models in store? cause we play space hulk in store (we here in the uk are awesome!) besides it's not really gw hq's fault most of those decisions are made by managers of stores.

I am in the UK! And it is HQ, the same way they stopped Lord of the Rings being promoted when it first came out....mean nasty people...

Wow! Solid painting on that Terminator! Love the gore!

How much Tamiya Paint did you use on the severed head? Is that a bead of paint between the two exposed neck tubes?

Thanks Lord Mongol. Ive put more work into this mini than any other so far.

Ive started the rest of the squad but I dont know if I can put the same effort in.

I took a chance on the gore and did the following.

I based the figure so that was done. I then took my wash brush and got a load of clear red on it. Its quite thick so you get a second or two with it on the brush before it drips. I took a brush full and dabbed it on the smaller tube at the top. This then ran down (creating a nice clear blob between the pipes) onto the large tube. I then did the same on the large tube and let it drip onto the base. After an hour I then went over the large drip again to make it bigger.

As Ive said I started on the rest of the squad.

Only after Id started customising Omnio did I realise the back of his right leg was completely miss moulded and had no detail just a big flat panel and no ribbed leg joint. Luckily I had a spare terminator who could "donate" a leg :)

Its been a while but Ive been working on one of the other SH Termies.

This one came from ebay and had been "pre de blooded" To be honest they hadnt done a bad job but there was still a large amount of BA symbols on the body and mixed with the chains. I took the decision to remove the front completely and replace it with a standard terminator body.

Heres it is pre paint

Heres the undercoat and first set of washes.

Just a quick update as Ive done the first highlights and Im after advice on the lightening claws.

I want to paint them as power claws and Im thinking about blending them from white on the tip to enchanted blue at the hilt. The only thing is what do I paint the hardware that sits on the power glove? Im thinking about NMM silver.

Opinions on the claws are welcomed

Hoah! This one looks brutal!

Great Job, the paintjob is crisp and very well done!! The claws look outstanding!

One question though, do you intend to paint the claws in a solely metallic tone or are you going for energy-effects, since the latter would really turn this excellent model into quite an example of eyecandy!!

Greetings

Thanks Guys

Im going to make them look like they are powered but with it been such a small area (not to mention the fiddly area between the blades) I dont want to make a mess of it which is why I thought the graduation of colour from enchanted blue to white would look ok.

I'll do this tonight and post an update tomorrow.

I'm going to have to second Skirax's comment, as much as I dislike anything ultramarine blue, you really breathed life into these models.

Maybe it's just me or the lighting on the photos, but to me your LC model looks brighter than the tyranid model, and that threw me off a bit. The conversions pieces are looking amazing, with lots more personality than the already beautiful Space Hulk models. The only other criticism I have is that replaced leg (on the SB termie). It just looks a bit awkwardly placed.

Cheers,

Fenris

Thanks Fenris. I might even get a few people to accept Ultras :P

Im taking the pictures with a new daylight bulb about 3 inches above the model. It could be that it was just closer on the 2nd shot. I'll take a pic of the two finished models once the 2nd ones done (as its also for my LPC) (edit: Ive just realised I never posted the final pics of the first terminator once it was highlighted)

I know what you mean about the leg replacement. Im going to swap the foot for the old one but I couldnt be bothered on the day. It'll be corrected before I paint it up.

These look better than the BA ones Imho lol.

Thanks terminator, Im sure not everyone will agree with you which is why Im trying to make these look less like SH termies and more like standard ones (with bling!)

Heres the latest update. Ive just got the base and final highlights to do then I think thats another one ticked off from my librarium challenge.

Im not sure the lightening claws have come out too well on the photo but they look great in real life

Ive made a good start on the Assult Cannon Terminator

This is the first Forge World Crux Ive painted and Ive got to say the details are great. The gems need highlighting but the molds are crisp and great for highlighting

Im hoping to finish this one this weekend as Ive 2 more and a iron clad dread to do for my LPC
