Grey Hunter Ydalir
Indeed The Art of War is not the perfect example but I was simply using it as a comparative example. It has been around for hundreds of years and is still relevant today. For our brethren in the UK, I think I have seen something similar that the SAS puts out, but I have never read it, and coincidentally would LOVE one if you wanna hook a brother up :D When I moved from the UK to Australia I had one of those along with a few of the more commercialised type versions, after moving however the box they were in never arrived. Maybe I should find a replacement with the ASAS. I kind of did, didn't I? Perhaps not the way you mean. Explain a little further? No, you did, I missed it. I haven't slept yet so that was my mistake, apologies. Octavulg
Unfortunately, not only does the B&C lack an embarassed emoticon, my mommy didn't teach me how to take compliments gracefully. Walter Payton
I am loving it so far, and it is really helpful with my latest IA: Heroin Addicted Blood Angels. The only thing that I would disagree with is the inclusion of your own chapter without obvious attribution (sorry to drag this to the surface again). I agree with what you said about confidence and such like, but, the fact is, if this goes in the DIY Guide (as I assume you want it to), we already know that you know what you are talking about, because it is part of the very guide that you have written, and that the B&C agrees with what you have written, ergo, we know that you know what you are talking about and we known that you know that you know what you are talking about because Ferrata told us. Keep up the great work <_< BCA EDIT: Change your signature to 'The Invaluable Octaguide', for it is Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/191081-the-octaguide/page/5/#findComment-2313919 Share on other sites
Octavulg
I am loving it so far, and it is really helpful with my latest IA: Heroin Addicted Blood Angels. Blood Angels are a cocaine chapter if I ever saw one. They're too vain to have track marks. ;) The only thing that I would disagree with is the inclusion of your own chapter without obvious attribution (sorry to drag this to the surface again). If this goes in the DIY Guide, it will be when it's done. That's not happening any time soon. Plus, there's the simple fact that I know (generally) why the decisions were made the way they were on the Ice Lords and Bronze Prophets. I can't be as sure with other Chapters. Personally, I like examples. Helps me be sure I understand what's going on. And the examples I can use with the most confidence are, well, mine... Keep up the great work thumbsup.gif Thank you. There'll likely be another update in early April - I'm trying not to beat the thing to death (and I'm also trying to stretch things out long enough that I can honestly claim I don't remember what prompted me to think X). Captain Juan Juarez
Heres a thought which I don't think you mentioned: That the nearer you get to the potential end of the IA, the harder that it actually becomes. Add that in with platitudes about IAs needing practice and patience, that it can take months of work.. or 3 years in some cases ... to achieve a workable IA. I don't think so, they do the drug, which I haven't thought of a name for, because it mitigates the effects of the rage (but obviously has other effects, like hurt). Octavulg
The Octaguide has been updated. Changelog Significantly Revised: “On the Sections of an IA” Added: The two kinds of criticism Your color scheme is important A Brief History of My Own Work Why you are not the [blank] Templars “On Codex divergence (and changes to a Chapter's character)” “On the Process of Writing an IA” “On specific pedantic criticisms in fluff and writing” Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/191081-the-octaguide/page/5/#findComment-2342987 Share on other sites
Marshal Rohr
You are not the [blank] TemplarsMany DIYers like to have the Black Templars be their training cadre. However, there are a number of both in-universe and out-of-universe problems with this. Why would the High Lords choose the Black Templars? They're headstrong, violate the Codex, and are completely outside Imperial control, even moreso than the usual Astartes independence. The High Lords would not trust them. Nor would they be a good choice for a training cadre, precisely because of their particular quirks – they'd pass them on to the new Chapter, which would provide the High Lords with another problem chapter. Added to this, there's the fact that most people seem to simply take the opportunity to recreate the Black Templars, thus raising the issue of why the exercise was undertaken in the first place. The Black Templars as a Chapter cadre raise far, far more problems than they solve. Very Nice ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/191081-the-octaguide/page/5/#findComment-2343053 Share on other sites

If I had to make a criticism, it seems very 'loyalist focused'-Not very much on traitors. Of course, if that is what you want it to be, then fine, but I can't help but think that the lack of Traitor chapters in the Librarium has something to do with the lack of a focused ITs guide. Well done! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/191081-the-octaguide/page/5/#findComment-2343184 Share on other sites
