The conversion was, -ahem- "borrowed", from someone else on the BA section, with some modification B)

Next up, Brother Sgt Arkan gets some new armour and toys to play with:

That's it for now. I'll have some "BA Markers" finished soon along with finally finishing off my DC Dread Pod.

...and I took one pic of the Angelic Host as it currently stands for now:

do you plan on making more for the fortress? maybe it's just me, but it seems like it needs a another level added on to it, as well as looking rather unbalanced since you have most of it all on one side of the tower.

LOL! I DID spent some time trying to figure out where have I seen him before!

Btw, great photos man, Sgt Falken's power weapon especially is very well executed!

do you plan on making more for the fortress?

Most definitely! I've been seduced by the new 'dex this year, hence it's been put on the back burner, but next year (after I've moved) I'll be starting on the base and ground floor level. That way the upper levels (part of which you can see finished) will be less of a headache to do with regards to how it all fits together, and how the bloody thing will be transported

Thanks mate, I'm pretty pleased with how it (and he) turned out. As for the Priest, please take that as the sincerest form of flattery to the guy who did the original. The great thing about the hobby side is so many people have some really great ideas for conversions that they can be "temporarily borrowed for an unspecified period of time"...

alright, looks good now (better than i could do) just looked off/uneven so i figured i'd ask.

My first event there and I have to say it was a brilliant weekend. 5 games over 2 days and had a blast in all my games (even when I got tabled by Daemons - I was physically and mentally dead by then :P ). Some great guys and really well organised with lots of prize support. The tables were very good btw, with a good amount of terrain - definitely going next year.

I knew your army looked familiar when I saw it there! Wish I had put two and two together at the event, because they looked great in person (and in pictures too!).

Cheers fellas. I didn't think til afterwards to actually put my B+C handle on the name tag, just incase I came across any other BA players. By the end though I was ready to collapse (many beers on the Sat night not helping in the slightest...).
I'll try to get there next year. Rochester is so much easier for me than most other cities for a GT.

I can heartily recommend the trip - definitely worth it. Next year is set to be a 3 day event with an ETC style Team tournament on the Fri too... so bring some mates :P

Loving the updates on the sgts mate, they look awesome! Excellent use of bits. How do you paint the PW effects? (sorry if that has been asked before!) The white on the priest is so smooth :)

They all look fantastic together, very inspirational. Please tell me you won best painted army! Cannot not fault any of them, well done  ^_^ :P

What can I say that hasn´t been said already?! Great looking all around! :o

Many thanks for the positives lads, much appreciated, although only 2nd Best this time around. After my first major singles tourney in a LONG time, I'll take 2nd definitely... although it doesn't leave a lot of lee-way to do better next time :D

No worries Midnight:

The main layers are these, all of it blended and keeping the paint fairly fluid. I throw in a bit of saliva on the brush before each visit to the pot, just to help with moving it around on the model. I often do a "pointillist"/stippled approach to getting an even blend between layers. Takes me forever though and I often have to touch up previous layers with previous colours.

I also tend to do a quick drybrush of the colour I'm about to add over the raised areas of the part I'm working on - helps to give me a boundary to work with for the blend.

- Regal Blue

- 50/50 Regal Blue and Ultramarines Blue

- Ultramarines Blue

- 50/50 Ultramarines Blue and Space Wolf Grey

- Space Wolf Grey

After that it's a quick Skull White highlight to the extreme points and angles (can be drybrush or a careful blend).

As for the Priest, he's a little simpler. Basecoat of Shadow Grey; middle layer of Space Wolf Grey leaving all the recesses alone with the previous colour, and then the same with Skull White but again leaving the recesses clear with both the Shadow and Space Wolf. White for me is a b1tch to do and I usually do 2-3 thinned layers to get the eveness... doesn't always work though.

Hope that helps and thanks again for the supportive feedback :)

  • 1 month later...

So, this will be my last update for a while seeing as all my paints and such are packed away ready for my move. Hoping I can get some new stuff on here some time soon in the New Year but for now, here are some pics of my finished Red Thirst Markers. They might not be to everyone's liking but they're meant to be an anthropomorphic personification of the Thirst, rendered in stone - not space vampires in power armour ;)

Haven't decided yet whether they need an additional brighter highlight layer for the extreme edges, but there's now't I can do about it now anyway.

Ironically, since completing them I've played about 4 games and have only rolled Thirst successfully once... for one squad... really?!! :) At least they make for decent objective markers as an alternative.

This will quickly change once you include Astorath in your list. :D

Awesome work as always! Because of family and job and other projects, silly me hasn't started painting the new BA models yet and I espcially wondered how to paint the DC bits so they don't look like DC for standard Marines - well, your pictures gave me good inputs. :) Thanks for posting and sharing. :)

why not go all the way when your going through so much effort already? :RTBBB:

It's because they're meant to be bust statues and not full length statues, hence why they're also sitting on plinths ;)

Look pretty good to me, a bit extravagent for red thirst though! Just some counters do me lol

...but extravagant is our middle name isn't it? At least for a bunch of very angry artisans :eek ...and you should know me enough by now Midnight, that I put in a silly amount of effort for some of the smallest things...

Cheers for the comments guys. Undecided as to what to do next but 2011 for me will be a year of the "Specials": Vanguard, Sternguard, Sang Guard, SH Termies, Stormraven, Land Raider, Characters... ...plus the Fortress of course. Some side projects are beckoning also, which are non-BA related (Krieg and some DE bits and pieces) but this should keep me busy and leave me in a good place come the end of next year.

Had to log in just to add this reply. Your stuff is really looking great. Glad to see you are still adding great pieces to your BA force. I really like the statue-markers. Totally going to borrow the look for some objective markers. I have been busy with a bunch of other projects but am itching to get back to filling in my BA gaps. Trying to get everything ready for a hoped-for dread stormraven ides of march.

Thanks for the inspiration and for the great shots of your army. ;)

Cheers teeef, much appreciated mate. Looking forward to seeing what you do with the Raven - another thing to add to a ridiculously long list of hobby plans!!!

(As you were so kind to give some advice a while back - I will get that drop pod finished soon, honest ;) )
