SamaNagol
GO TO THE LAST POST FOR NEWEST UPDATES -------------------------------------- Seeing as Flesh tearers eschew the ornate and stylised armour of their progenitor chapter, I've started building assault marines already. Nearly finished a Carnarvon model as well to lead my DC. I'll be updating this with pics and random musings about putting together my force. At the moment I have on advance order: Baal Pred 2 x DC boxes Seth For funsies I ordered Astorath, Lemartes (for my Counts as LotD SM army) and a box of Sanguinary Guard I also bought a metal Furioso, may pick up a second Forgeworld Dread as well with 'Talons' I am considering running a Counts As Astorath to represent 'Carnarvon' as my only HQ choice to lead a jump pack DC unit or around 8 models. It would also accurately reflect the prevalence of the Red Thirst in the chapter. Will probably keep Seth saved for larger games and as a display painting piece. I'm going to be loading up on Assault Squads. I was looking at running 3x 5 man RAS with a Meltagun in T/L Assault Cannon Razorbacks and an attached Sanguinary Priest in 2 of them to provide mobile force bubbles. I want to run a 6-8 man VGV unit with a nice selection of SCCW ad Infernus Pistols and a Jump Pack Priest attached. Then finish the list off with a 10 man RAS and a Baal Pred or a Vindicator, or maybe some Attack Bikes and a Furioso Dread, or maybe even a Librarian Furisos for the Psychic Hood. I'm basically trying to update the mobile bunkers and force bubble list from the old pdf dex utilising some of the new bonuses we have access to. I feel the fact that we can now have Special Weapons in RAS units means that you can run a lot more Troops and not loose anti armour capabilities. At the moment I have a completed unit of RAS built and in the process of getting base coated. I'm using a slightly darker colour scheme by mixing in a spot of chaos black into the Red Gore base coat and then working up. It looks a lot richer and slightly more brooding than the GW scheme. Nearly finished a Carnarvon conversion, and started work on VGV models. I'll up some pictures maybe this evening

Night Runner
Can you tell me where the book on Carnarvon comes from? And it's a great looking conversion. :P
SamaNagol
It's been painstakingly cut from the hip of a Grey Knight terminator who'm I had already began cannibalising for parts for previous DH projects.

terminatorAM
all look great so far and welcome to the Flesh Tearers. I just ordered those FW chainaxes for my DC so its nice to know they look good on the models. What are u using for the torsos, are they the Red Scorpians VGV from FW? looking forward to watching your progress
Brother Chaplain Ginn
all look great so far and welcome to the Flesh Tearers. What are u using for the torsos, are they the Red Scorpians VGV from FW? looking forward to watching your progress Heads up the FW chain axes are absolute ass pain. Go ahead and buy some 3/64 brass rod because your going to have to make new shafts and sculpt new grips for these. They snap if you look at them wrong. Just as my Berzerkers. Ugh. SamaNagol
I don't mind putting up a tutorial on how I have been mounting them on the arms. I'll take some pictures now and be back in a bit. Edit. Done, I qill upload them to photobucket now, gimme 10 minutes.
SamaNagol
Forgeworld Chain Axes - How To.... So, for all Flesh Tearers commanders the Chain Axe is an essential piece of kit. The Forgeworld Chain Axe upgrade sprues look brilliant, but with no hands attached and resin being about as brittle as meringue it can be very hard to equip your marines with these axes. This can be avoided if you have patience and a steady hand. I use this method to replace the Assault Marine chainswords as the parts are readily available. Equipment you will need: http://i601.photobucket.com/albums/tt91/Sa...ol/DSC00457.jpg A chainsword arm, a paper clip, a FW Chain Axe, clippers, craft knife, pin vice drill. First point is to clip off the chain sword. This is very easy to do because the fist gives you a nice guide to rest the clipper against. http://i601.photobucket.com/albums/tt91/Sa...ol/DSC00458.jpg After you have done this, cut off the crossguard and then using a craft knife cut off the pommel leaving one ridge of the grip below the hand. You will be left with this. http://i601.photobucket.com/albums/tt91/Sa...ol/DSC00459.jpg Take your pin vice and then drill a hole through the bottom of the grip you left underneath the hand. Use your eye to angle the pin vice so it comes out of the other side of the fist at a realistic angle. You will be left with this: http://i601.photobucket.com/albums/tt91/Sa...ol/DSC00460.jpg Take your paper clip and put a small amount of super glue on it then feed it through the hole in the hand. leave a couple of milimetres of pin exposed either side. It is better to leave rather than less, as you can always cut off more wire with clippers if it is too long, but can't add more on if it is too short. http://i601.photobucket.com/albums/tt91/Sa...ol/DSC00461.jpg Take your chain axe and using your craft knife cut through the grip 2 ridges down http://i601.photobucket.com/albums/tt91/Sa...ol/DSC00462.jpg Trim the ends flat using your knife and then using the tip of the blade push a little dent in the very centre of the 2 pieces so you can begin to drill them hollow. Now, being very patient and careful, take your pin vice, line up the drill bit to the dent you made with the blade and begin to drill out the 2 pieces so they are hollow. You only need to drill out a few milimetres so you can afford to take your time and make sure you keep the drill bit straight and parallel with the axe pieces. It is important to remember you can only hollow out the grip, as the shaft of the axe is too thin, so make sure you stop when you get to the top of the grip on the axehead part otherwise you will ruin your resin axe. You will be left with something like this: http://i601.photobucket.com/albums/tt91/Sa...ol/DSC00463.jpg Then take the 2 now hollow axe parts and line them up to make sure they have enough hollowed out to fit flush against the fist. When you have drilled them out enough dab a spot of superglue onto the paper clip pin and attach them to the hand like so. http://i601.photobucket.com/albums/tt91/Sa...ol/DSC00464.jpg And then you can attach the arm to your marine, ready to bring righteous retribution for the Flesh Tearers chapter. http://i601.photobucket.com/albums/tt91/Sa...ol/DSC00465.jpg
Fracture
Nice looking start. the positions of the models have got a lot of movement in them which I like. Has your Carnarvon got some kind of buzz saw in his left hand? Any chance of a pic of it?

SamaNagol
Nice looking start. the positions of the models have got a lot of movement in them which I like. Has your Carnarvon got some kind of buzz saw in his left hand? Any chance of a pic of it? No, it's just one of the older chaplain crozius tops. I'll add a picture this evening for ya. Thanks for the kind words. I'm going to model up a Sanguinary Priest with Jump Pack out of the Sanguinary Guard box when it comes. I figure he can be the 'High Priest' of the chapter, and as such would get himself some ornate armour. Everyone else is running bare bones. I thought it was very important to get a really good exaggerated range of motion on the models to reflect the ferocity.
Midnightmare
These are some nice poses you have there, I will be keeping an eye on this thread :( I particularly like the Vanguard dude with the lightning claws, something I will have to copy. Were they wolf claws originally? Also is the p/fist dude's fist taken from the vet with the scars? Also great (I am a fan of kitbashing - expensive but you end up with something unique :) ) BTW I can also vouch for the FW chain axes, my bro has used them on his World Eaters, they are quality (nice tutorial)
SamaNagol
The claws are from the Canis model, which I didn't use because I gave the rider a Thunder Hammer/Storm Shield. Yeh, the Power Fist is from the veterans, but I actually mail ordered the blister of the Vet with the Lightning Claw, to my surprise the metal sprue comes with the lightning claw and that power fist on. I love kitbashing. It's brilliant.

SamaNagol
Now thats ive had serveral hours with the codex and knocked up a couple of lists..... I realised I don't actually need a single one of the new models. I'll probably end up putting together 3000pts worth of stuff, but the 1500pt list I am looking to try out first will use none of the new models at all. Amusing! Reclusiarch (Carnarvon conversion) Sanguinary Priest Sanguinary Priest 5 Death Company with Jump Packs, 1 Power Weapon & 1 Power Fist Death Company Dread with Talons in Drop Pod with Locator Beacon 10 Assault MArines with 2 Meltaguns & Power Fist 5 Assault Marines with Plasma Gun in T/L Assault Cannon Razorback 5 Assault Marines with Plasma Gun in T/L Assault Cannon Razorback 6 Vanguard with Jump Packs, Serg w/ Twin Lightning Claws, Power Fist, Power Weapon & Infernus Pistol and Storm Shield 1500pts on the nose
SamaNagol
So amusingly enough, after *acquiring* 2 bits from the new Death Company sprue, my army is actually finished assembly. I didn't need to use any of the new sprues. I was going to kitbash up a jump pack Sanguinary Priest from a box of Sanguinary Guard but in the end I dropped him from my list anyway, so that can wait. The only thing left to do is wait on April 17th for my Flesh Tearers shoulder pads, of which I ordered 40. Oh, and find a way to convert a Dreadnought to have 'Blood Talons'. I might have to ask a sculptor to do something for me.
Midnightmare
Re the Dread: I have some FW arms, I think I will be using them as 'counts as' blood talons, with plenty of tamaya clear red coveing them! Win <_< Re the FT pads: hopefully they are the same size as the regular pads because the BA ones are smaller and look odd when fitted. To rectify I file the trim on the edges of mine flat then fit a strip of plasticard to the very edge to make them appear bigger, I only fit them to sergeants though. SamaNagol
Just putting the finishing touches on these 2 Razorbacks now and I will up an 'WIP' army shot of the lads tonight. Seeing as they can get St 10 and give their unit Preferred Enemy (Sanguine Sword and Unleash Rage powers) I am considering building a Librarian with a Jump Pack for the future. That should be a nice conversion project. I'll be working on the Chapter's Sanguinary High Priest with full Artificer Armour, Jump Pack and Grail of some kind once the Sanguinary Guard are delivered. And I will have a go converting Seth into something that doesn't look like he needs his aunt to pinch his chubby cheeks and tell him how much he has grown. SamaNagol
Just awaiting delivery from eBay of 2 sets of twin linked Assault Cannon. Also need to build my Drop Pod. That is my stand in DC dread until I figure out a way of making Lightning Claws that look good. But until then, here's the family photo! Not a single chainsword to be seen anywhere. http://i601.photobucket.com/albums/tt91/SamaNagol/DSC00503.jpg Reclusiarch Jump Pack Sanguinary Priest Sanguinary Priest 5 Death Company Jump Packs Power Weapon Power Fist Death Company Dreadnought Blood Talons Drop Pod with Locator Beacon 10 Assault Marines 2 Meltaguns Power Fist 5 Assault Marines Plasma Gun Razorback T/L Assault Cannon 5 Assault Marines Plasma Gun Razorback T/L Assault Cannon 6 Vanguard Veterans Jump Packs Sergeant with Twin Lightning Claws Power Fist Power Weapon & Infernus Pistol Storm Shield 1500pts
