My Flesh Tearers blog: From 1500pts to half the chapter....

Yep, they are a bit pricey at £8 for 10 of them, but they look amazing on the models.

I played a game today 1500pts vs Codex Space Marines.

He took:

Chapter Master

Thunder Hammer

Storm Shield

Chaplain

Venerable Dread

Assault Cannon

Heavy Flamer

5 TH/SS Terminators

Land Raider Phobos

10 Tactical Marines

Meltagun

Multi Melta

Rhino

5 Tactical Marines

Razorback

Whirlwind

Tri Las Predator

2 Attack Bikes with Heavy Bolters

Annhilation and Dawn Of War.

He got first turn started with his Rhino with Tactical Marines inside deployed in the centre of the board. Kept his Chapter Master and Chaplain inside his Land Raider with the TH/SS Terminators (capacity 12). I deployed my Chaplain and Death Company down the left flank as far forward as possible and my Assault Marines with 2 Meltaguns and Jump Packs centrally in front of the Rhino near my board edge. (in hindsight I should have left them off the board and screened them behind my Razorbacks when they came on for the FnP bonus from the Sang Priests inside)

His first turn came and he rolled on with everything. His 2 attack bikes, Land Raider and Predator all came on directly opposing the Death Company in the space of about 12 inches down his right flank. He withdrew his Rhino from the centre of the board back towards his own lines and the Dread came on in the middle of the board with his Razorback. The entire other side of the board was empty. His Land Raider spotted the DC and he used his search light to pepper them with a volley of Lascannon shots and Heavy Bolters. 3 died. His Whirlwind took a pop at my Assault Marines hitting 6 of them, wounding 4 but all 4 passed their armour saves. His Dread was a half inch out of range from my Razorbacks.

My first turn and my Death Company dread came down in it's pod directly in front of the Land Raider and Predator blocking any forward progress towards the Death Company with the Attack Bikes to the left of it unable to fit through the gap between the pod and some ruins. My Razorbacks both came on centrally. My Death Co and Chaplain bounced forwards towards the Attack Bikes which were nearest. The Assault Marines made their way up the table to the left of the new DA fortress building which was near the centre of the board. His Rhino and assault marines were opposite sides of the building blocking LoS. I fired my Dread's Meltagun at the Land Raider but failed to hit. I fired my Razorbacks at his Rhino and managed a Weapon Destroyed result.

His turn 2 and he reversed his Land Raider 6 inches away from the dread and opened fire with 1 Lascannon firing the second at the Death Company, while his Predator fired it's T/L Lascannon at the DC also along with both Attack Bikes who had moved behind the wall of 3 tanks. I was reduced to 1 DC and the Chaplain and a single Lascannon shot to allocate. Eitherway I would lose a Killpoint, so I took it on the Chaplain who failed his Rosarius save leaving just a single DC with a Powerfist. He again fired his Whirlwind at my Assault Marines but scattered. His Razorback pulled round to support the flank and fired it's Heavy Bolter at the Assault Marines killing one. His Dread attempted to shoot at my Razorbacks and managed to Immobilise one of them while his Rhino parked up next to his Whilrwind on his table edge behind some ruins.

My turn 2 and I rolled a 5 for my Vanguard. They came down within 6 inches of the Drop Pod's Locator Beacon declaring HI, and within 3" of his Land Raider. My remaining Death Company bounced towards the Land Raider which was closest, and the Dread moved 6 inches towards the very back of the Land Raider. I moved my remaining Razorback 12" forward towards the Ven Dreadnought hoping for a lucky shot with the Assault Cannon. The Assault Marines moved up behind the recently landed Vanguard looking to get a charge on the Razorback. My DC dread fired its meltagun at the Land Raider. hit, penetrated with ease and rolled a 4 for damage. BOOM! Wrecked and the passengers pile out. Now the fun begins...... Vanguard charge. Dreadnought charges. Lone DC with Fist charges the Chaplain. Assault marines charge the Razorback. My Assault Sergeant misses the Razorback with his 3 Fist attacks. Damnit! So, here goes.... first time I have seen the DC Dreadnought in action.... 5 attacks at I5 so he goes first. Attacks the Terminators and hits with 4 attacks. Wounds 4 times with re-rolls. 2 failed saves. Rolls another 2 attacks. 1 hits. 1 wounds with re-rolls. Failed 3++ save. Rolls another attack. Hits and Wounds. Save passed. 3 dead Terminators. Nice! Chaplain goes against my DC with Fist and hits 3 times. fails to wound! DC Swings back and squishes his skull. Vanguard now attack with LC guy hitting 3 times and wounding 3 times. Power Weapon guy hits 3 times and wounds 3 times as well. 2 wounds from the regular guys. So thats 6 and 2 on the remaining 2 Terminators who promptly fall down dead. Chapter Master and Power Fist vanguard attack simultaneously. Chapter Master swings 3 attacks and hits twice. Wounds Twice. I save one with the storm shield and take off a regular guy. Power Fist VGV hits 3 times and wounds 3 times. The Chapter Master manages to make all 3 Inv saves with his Storm Shield though. He loses the combat by 8 and fails 2 3+ saves due to Fearless from the Chaplain. I consolidate and pile in.

His turn and his remaining Razorbank, and Predator retreated from the onslaught of my assault contingent a full 12 inches. He advanced his Rhino and Venerable Dreadnought towards my 2 Razorbacks. He fired an Assault Cannon at the mobile Razorback but it bounced off. His Tactical Marines disembarked form the Rhino and managed to explode it though, and 2 died in the explosion even with Feel no Pain. The Dreadnought charged the occupants. 3 of them died. He shot a Lascannon at my Dread. It bounced off. He shot at the Assault Marines with the Whirlwind and killed 1, pinning the unit.

My turn 3 and the DC and Vanguard charge the Predator, the Dreadnought charges the Razorback. I shot my 1 Razorback Assault Cannon at the Tactical Marines who were out of the Rhino, killing 1. My VGV fired at the Predator from the side with his Infernus pistol. It exploded. 3 models were hit but all passed their saves. The Dreadnought failed to penetrate the Razorback. The Death Company marine with fist managed to immobilise it. The Dreadnought killed the remaining members of my RAS squad.

His turn 4 and he re-embarked his Tactical Marines into the Rhino and drove towards my remaining Razorback. His Dreadnought also walked towards it. He shot his Assault Cannon at the Razrback failing to penetrate. Fired his Whirlwind at the Vanguard Vets scattering on top of my Death Co Dread. Moved his Assault Bikes away from everything into the far corner of the table.

My turn and my assault marines bounced over the fortress next to his Dread. 2 Meltaguns took off both his arms. They charged and the Sergeant immobilised it with his Power Fist. The Death Company Dread fired a meltagun at the razorback and exploded it. The 5 man unit got out and were promptly charged and butchered. Everyone consolidated towards the Whirlwind. My squad got out of the Razorback and rapid fired at the Rhino with Plasma, wrecking it. The tactical squad climbed out and sat there.

It was at this point that he called it a day.

I must say that the Drop Pod Death Company dread is HIDEOUS! And being able to get a charge off with the VGV makes them well worth their points.

Thoroughly enjoyable game. I look forward to testing it out against a stronger build of marines.

Just magnetized my first Razorback. I didn't even realise how easy it is. 3mm x 2mm magnets are the perfect size because they actually match the thickness of the plastic perfectly as well as the diameter of the holes and pegs. And an added bonus is, I won't need to buy a set of Assault Cannon for every army I run. I can retain my 3 sets of Assault Cannon I bought off ebay and just swap them on to the different turrets for my different armies as they won't be painted in any specific colour. Result!

Razorback:

If you guys want a short pictorial about how I did the magnets then let me know. It's pretty easy.

I have found that if you are podding them in with no other serious threat targets, they are effectively a 125 point free Kill Point. But if you do get them in against anything, they will make at least 3 times their cost back easily.

So I have decided on a few different builds I want to try. In the end I will have the following built and painted:

Seth

Librarian on foot with Honour Guard in Razorback

Librarian with Jump Pack with Jump Pack Honour Guard

Terminator Librarian with Storm Shield

Terminator Assault Marines (3 TH/SS 2 LC) and Terminator Sanguinary Priest

Land Raider Crusader

Reclusiarch

5 DC with Jump Packs

15 DC on foot

Death Company Rhinorback

Death Company Dread

Furioso Dread

Drop Pod

20 Assault Marines with Jump Packs

24 Assault Marines on foot

4 Rhinorbacks

Vindicator

Baal Predator

Got at least 2/3 of it built now. Need to order another 2 Razorback kits.

I'm also trying to convert a Librarian Dreadnought from the FW Venerable. And I hope to recreate the Blood Talons that are in the Codex on another Dread.

None of the parts on the Rhino or Razorback are magnetized. The roof and 2 cupolas are loose and just come off to be swapped out with the Razorback parts. You can get away with this as they never need to actually 'stick' to the chasis.

I did the same thing with a Rhino-Razorback of my own; it's a great idea to give you flexibility, and if you're ambitious you can magnetize them for added durability in transport.

I sort of figured the Blood Talons setup was going to be very nasty for cleaning out elite squads, especially with the boosted WS of the Furioso; glad to see it works as well as rumored. I'm interested that you're using JP DC, as there has been a lot of flak aimed at this unit; do you believe they're worth the points, in general?

Definitely cool conversions for the chain axes, it makes your force look background congruent while adding flavor to each squad. It also allows you to keep the rest of your FT relatively spartan, as is the chapter's way, and I think the overall setup is better for it. I'll be following this thread closely now, as I'm looking forward to seeing what sort of paint scheme you end up using for these guys.

My load out of DC is 5 men with 1 fist and 1 power weapon.

However the points cost for that is EXACTLY the same as 5 Assault Terminators with 3 TH/SS and 2 LC. Whilst the DC are far less survivable, uncontrollable due to rage and don't hit as hard. They do have a farther effective threat range and higher WS though.

It's difficult. I really wanted to run a nice small unit of DC because the Reclusiarch is one of the best HQs and I love the DC Dread......

;) best flesh tearer models ever.... how many forgeworld kits did you buy (just to get an idea)?

Also, would you mind telling me your red recipe? Although wip, that red looks cool already ... :D

Looking forward to see some more paint on those models!! Regards

Same about the Reclusiarch and a small DC, I had originally planned to go for a 5 strong DC in a RB with the big Chaplain. I got turned away after release because of how awesome our Libbies are. I may still consider this build at a later date, perhaps in 1850 where I can afford to skip a scoring unit. Not as big a fan of the DC Dread, though the new Furioso may still catch my interest thanks to the Blood Talons. Would be a riot to convert!

It's just about 3-4 coats of very thinned down red gore over a grey primer. The colour of primer you use is very important because it really does affect how the base colours turn out. I much prefer grey as it gives you a far 'truer' colour. I've not actually got any more painting done as I have been assembling all these plastic kits. Should get back to the paintbrushes and away from the glue and pin vice soon though. Funnily enough none of my BA pre-ordered stuff has turned up yet! I'm most annoyed! Luckily most of my army is built using standard marine parts and I have no need for the fancy bits. Would be nice to have a proper copy of the codex to read though, not jpegs of photos I took of the codex last month!

I really would like some critique on this list as a competitive build to take on Mech IG, Nids, Mech Eldar and Dual Lash Chaos:

HQ:

Reclusiarch

130pts

Elites:

Sanguinary Priest

Sanguinary Priest

100pts

Troops:

4 Death Company

Power Fist

Power Weapon

Razorback

Extra Armour

T/L Heavy Flamer

190pts

6 Assault Marines

Meltagun

Lightning Claw

Razorback

Extra Armour

T/L Assault Cannon

213pts

6 Assault Marines

Meltagun

Lightning Claw

Razorback

Extra Armour

T/L Assault Cannon

213pts

5 Assault Marines

Plasmagun

Razorback

Extra Armour

T/L Lascannon

185pts

5 Assault Marines

Plasmagun

Razorback

Extra Armour

T/L Lascannon

185pts

Heavy Support:

Vindicator

Siege Shield

Extra Armour

170pts

Daemonhunter Allies:

Inquisitor

Psychic Hood

2 x Mystics

Rhino

Smoke Launchers

Extra Armour

135pts

Total Just over 1520 so I need to trim it

Would probably be looking to castle them up with the DC and Vindicator up the middle, the 2 TL-AC RBs one either side of them and the 2 TL-LC RBs with Sanguinary Priests in on the two flanks force bubbling the other Razorbacks, with the Inquisitor in his rhino rolling behind the curved front line of Flesh Tearers.

Just came to a final competitive list I feel pretty much happy with. I'll be making a BUNCH of other stuff to use as well in friendly games. Loads of jump packs, 3 dreadnoughts, predators and of course some terminators with a Crusader. More HQ such as Seth, Librarians and 2 sets of Honour Guard. But in terms of trying to take FT into a tournament setting, I'm going to try for this:

Allied HQ

Inquisitor Lord

Psychic Hood

2 x Mystics

Rhino

Smoke Launchers

130pts

Elites:

4 Death Company

Power Fist

Power Weapon

Razorback

Extra Armour

Total: 1491pts

I STILL haven't received my "advance" order through. Great stuff. So I haven't actually built anything new in the last week and a half. Just ordered another 2 cans of grey Vallejo primer as well, so i should be ready to go with getting stuck into painting up the lads.

Finally, 80 years later I have my mail order including the FT shoulder pads which I need to finish off my models. Got 1 box of DC and 1 box of SG for flavour.

Lots of stuff to get building and I am going to need to work out how to make a green stuff mould of this FT logo to use on character and terminator pads. So look out for updates soon.

  • 2 weeks later...

Ironically I have been very hard at *real* work and had not had a chance to build anything else up until this week, so here's some more updates.....

As I am going to be running a mainly mechanized infantry force I needed to build another Reclusiarch and a 4 man DC squad.

Now, along with my Flesh Tearers I have been slowly trying to build and convert a 1500pt 'Legion Of The Damned' army based on the C:SM list as a modelling project more than anything useful, so I have a lot of bits laying around and need a lot of parts for them. I'd intended on using Lemartes converted up as my LotD Chaplain, so I would have a spare BA Crozius to use. Also due to a GW mail order error I had a spare box of unopened LotD. So that's my Reclusiarch sorted!

Reclusiarch

http://i601.photobucket.com/albums/tt91/SamaNagol/DSC00564.jpg

Death Company marine with Power Fist and Bolter

http://i601.photobucket.com/albums/tt91/SamaNagol/DSC00565.jpg

Death Company marine with Power Weapon

http://i601.photobucket.com/albums/tt91/SamaNagol/DSC00566.jpg

2 x Death Company marines

http://i601.photobucket.com/albums/tt91/SamaNagol/DSC00567.jpg

http://i601.photobucket.com/albums/tt91/SamaNagol/DSC00568.jpg

Razorback with T/L Heavy Flamers

http://i601.photobucket.com/albums/tt91/SamaNagol/DSC00563.jpg

I found an old metal Autocannon turret for the OOP Predator lying around, so a quick search of my unused models found a very dusty Annhilator pattern Predator which hasn't seen action since they became far too expensive for their use. A quick turret swap means it can now be pressed into action in larger games, or depending on how my Vindicator fares.

http://i601.photobucket.com/albums/tt91/SamaNagol/DSC00569.jpg

I'm also in the process of assembling a Sanguinary Priest with a jump pack. I've magnetized his hand at the wrist so I can use him in either an Honour Guard or as an Elites choice on the table top with a Power Weapon. He represents my High Sanguinary Priest of the chapter fluff wise. As you can see I've used quite a lot of expensive bits so he deserves to be a centrepiece model of status. No name as of yet...

http://i601.photobucket.com/albums/tt91/SamaNagol/DSC00570.jpg

http://i601.photobucket.com/albums/tt91/SamaNagol/DSC00571.jpg

http://i601.photobucket.com/albums/tt91/SamaNagol/DSC00572.jpg

Still to build:

Terminators Squad with Librarian who will represent the Chief Librarian of the chapter.

Land Raider Crusader/Redeemer magnetised

Jump Pack Librarian with full honour guard

Ok, so I have completed both the Priest and the Reclusiarch. And I am so happy to say I have now finished ALL 5 of my magnetized Razorbacks. All that is left to do is add the fuel lines to the Heavy Flamers and I never have to look at another Rhino chasis again! (until the next army of course)

So hre we go:

Finished Sanguinary *High* Priest: He serves 3 roles: Sanguinary Priest with Jump Pack and Power Weapon, Sanguinary Novitiate with Jump Pack and Chainaxe, and after reading the Corbulo thread he makes a nifty 'counts as' Corbulo with a magnetized back pack and the Chainaxe. I'm getting my full money's worth after chopping up Dante, Corbulo and kitbashing Sanguinary Guard and Lemartes' Jump Pack to make him!

With Power Weapon and Jump Pack:

http://i601.photobucket.com/albums/tt91/SamaNagol/DSC00580.jpg

Rear detail:

http://i601.photobucket.com/albums/tt91/SamaNagol/DSC00579.jpg

In 'Corbulo' mode:

http://i601.photobucket.com/albums/tt91/SamaNagol/DSC00578.jpg

Here he is with the finished Reclusiarch on foot. I added the Chaplain's Rosarius and used the laurels from the plastic sprues to set him apart a bit from just a LotD sergeant with different arms. Also green stuffed over the flames on his leg.

http://i601.photobucket.com/albums/tt91/SamaNagol/DSC00575.jpg

http://i601.photobucket.com/albums/tt91/SamaNagol/DSC00581.jpg

And here is my full contingent of 100% customisable Rhinobacks: 5. Alongside the Vindicator and Predator I have on standby. I'll be magnetizing a Land Raider as well to round off the armoured support.

http://i601.photobucket.com/albums/tt91/SamaNagol/DSC00582.jpg

So I have 3 Librarians, a Terminator Squad and a Jump Pack Honour Guard to build. I might save a converted Seth and full Honour Guard for last. And probably enough DC to fill a Land Raider for funsies. That will round off my first ever completed army. Just need to get some paint out now.

I have been away all last week, but returned home today to find my Forgeworld order for numerous Dozer Blades waiting for me, so I am pretty much finished acquiring everything I need.

I have 1 more Vindicator and my Librarian on foot to finish building and then I can start working on some paints!

I just swapped the Blood Angel head with side parting and rebreather which I had used on my Sanguinary Priest conversion for the head I just got from Captain Korvydae.... it looks MUCH MUCH MUCH better. Far more savage. I love it. I much prefer the disctinct contrast between the baroque armour and the savage Chain Axe and heavily augmented fearsome face. It even makes me want to come up with a back story for the Blood Chalice he is modeled with. Something like the actual relic in which Commander Amit was given the blood of Sanguinius and sent off with 1000 of the most fervent and ferocious battle brothers aboard the Victus to bring righteous retribution to those who had sided with the Warmaster but foolishly thought they would be safe in the farthest reaches of the galaxy from the Emperor's Wrath. I think I need to come up with a name for this guy....
