More conversions you say? I'm not on good terms with the GS gods. That, and as you probably noticed by now, it really slows down production :) . I find a proper range of kitbashing does well enough to give each individual model some distinctive flavor. Even so, I do find myself plotting at all the wee hours of the night how to convert the ultimate Emperor's Champion

By the time I get back to this, I'll have all sorts of plastic GK bits to fiddle around with too...and wouldn't you know it, Terminators are next on the To Do List :)

Absolutely love what you did with the bikers!! Might steal that idea!! And your whole army looks great. I should really repaint the Aquila on my initiates with a brown base, looks a lot better than the bluish grey i am suing at the moment.

Bravo.

Impressive crusade! The details and conversions just blow me away!

So many unique looking poses and extras, and the handpainted iconography is top notch work.

The bikers are my absolute favourites. Those lances and the extra details added and painted to the bike chassis look fantastic.

The exhaust grime looks great too, I will definately have to go heavier with the washes on mine...

Now I'm rethinking my jetbike knights and surfing ebay for empire knight parts and weapons! ;)

So I got the test model for my Assault Terminators completed, and overall I'm pretty happy with it. Maybe the one thing I'm disappointed on is the lack of Templar specific iconography and how it risks looking more like a black Grey Knight than a proper Templar, but his buddies have an abundance of ForgeWorld bitz (including two with those tasty shields!) to make the unit as a whole look properly Templarific....hopefully.

Anyway:

Funnily enough, my new cellphone's built in Camera is waaaaay more accurate than the digital camera I used for all my previous pics, and I didn't even have to muck around with lighting adjustments (although I think I should still invest in a nice ghetto-rigged lightbox).

Comments and criticism encouraged. My Terminators and their LRC are meant to be centerpieces for the army, so feel free to be harsher than usual on any mistakes you see. We learn best by pain, after all

Really great looking models.

I am doing an extremely similar scheme with dheneb stone, gryphonne sepia wash and then careful drybrush of dheneb stone again. It's much lazier and less pretty than your method but also appeals to me in terms of simplicity. Respect to you for putting in the extra effort. It's showing through.

These look pretty sweet ;)

One thing I have tried to do to keep kitbashes Templarific is to try not to include more than one thing from the Lesser Chapters. For instance, when using the DA robed body, I always use a not-hooded head. I have even ripped off DA hoody heads from DA robed bodies in the past.

So if I am using a GK sword, then I would not use a GK head. I don't know if you have already put the others guys together...?

Your photos are much better than mine. I am using my brother's Pentax D-SLR X90 with 12.1 megapixels. They look much better on iPhoto than they do on photobucket. Thoughts?

I think your bikes are excellent! Forgive me if I.. borrow the lance idea.

I was planning a bike conversion going from this tute; http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/350911.page

I think lances would make an excellent addition! Can't wait to get modelling..

You, Sire, have build a very beautiful and inspring crusade.

While I dont like your Marschal (to much red and Chaos bits for my taste) I can only salute you for the rest. Your Terminator looks fine, with the problems you mentioned yourself.

I like you fine painting of white in special and templars in general. Good use of the Khorne Beserker Bits.

When will we see you Hollow Knight?

  • 3 weeks later...

OK, these updates have been long overdue. Unfortunately I just can't make my camera cooperate like I really want, but some pics are better than none. The main problem, aside from washing out colors a bit, is focus: especially on these vehicles, the camera would for some reason lock in on something like the MultiMelta up top and blur out the entire side of the tank :P Oh well, anyway...

Overall I'm happy with how the Terminators came out. I went through a LOT of test schemes for coming up with a power weapon effect that I liked, though the purples are a lot more vibrant in person than in these pics :(. The two hammernators (and especially their big honking shields) are a big help in washing out the Grey-Knight-In-Black-Paint look I was worried about, or at least I think so. I had to make sure to eliminate GK specific iconography like the word "TITAN" on all their greaves, though I simply let the sword and book logo stay on the one guy's leg as it would've been too much work to fix with the Expansion deadline looming <_<

One thing I have tried to do to keep kitbashes Templarific is to try not to include more than one thing from the Lesser Chapters. For instance, when using the DA robed body, I always use a not-hooded head. I have even ripped off DA hoody heads from DA robed bodies in the past.

No idea on the camera specs. I hardly know what I'm doing with my own camera, much less what model it is :(. Nor do I know anything about particular viewing websites, though they look the same on photobucket as they do on my desktop, if that's worth anything.

As for the rules of kitbashing, as you may have noticed I do it quite a bit, and I know what you mean about being delicate in overuse. With the GK bits though, some look plenty Templarific already (the heads you mentioned in particular are already more or less what BT converters have been doing for years), and as such only stand out if the viewer really wants to see GK in the model. Still, I tried to downplay some particular GK quirks, such as by painting the inlaid armor-text a dull metallic color instead of a bright one. Overall I'm satisfied, but the one spot I still wish I had fixed is the sword-n-book on the one Termie's shin. Still, oaths and all that :P

When will we see you Hollow Knight?

In all likelihood, never. Or at least not anytime soon. Currently all my efforts are working towards building a functioning 2k point army, and that doesn't leave much room for playing about with non-codex models. I think Eberious did as good a job as I could ever hope to do anyway :(

I think your bikes are excellent! Forgive me if I.. borrow the lance idea.

Seems like a really roundabout way of making a jetbike. I've seen simpler conversion guides around the net, but can't think of where just this moment. If I find them again I'll PM them to you if you like. As for borrowing the lance idea, if you read back you'll notice that I borrowed it myself from Titan. So I can't rightly mind you plagiarizing my plagiarism, now can I? :P

Now then, I redid Marshal Jonas to fit in line with our updated rules. A Stormshield looks way cooler than a couple of tiny bucklers on big fists anyway....still, I kept one of the bucklers to cover the nasty gnarled backside of the claw post de-wolfing anyway :D

The gold on the shield's aquilla is pretty washed out in the photo- it is not just one big shiny blur in person, thankfully. Still, a wash of Devlan Mud may be in order...

Weeee, update time! And a very important one, too. First, this marks my first real effort at magnetizing, a very annoying but fruitful endeavor. Second, with these models I officially have all I need to field a 2000 point army of righteous black zealous kitten smashing rage-a-ma-trons!!! Yay! Now I just gotta get a case to actually move all this stuff in, figure out where the games are, when they are, and that whole "how to play" business :P.

Anyway, first, some noobs:

These guys sat on my desk forever before I finally got around to finishing them. I really, really hate Scout models...I need to remember that next time I demand the return of Black Tide with our next dex :HQ:

Next, *drumroll* a magnetized Landspeeder!

Sooo my photography sure hasn't improved, as can be seen by some of the more washed out photos. Wish I could give a better shot of all the hard work I put into the shiny doo-dads and buttons on the dashboard...maybe later.

And finally, *even bigger, grander drumroll, worthy of a glorious epic* the whole big happy Crusade. ;)

What kit did the Lightning Claw come from?

Sorry for the late response Son of Cathal, I missed when this was posted. That claw is from the Space Wolves troop sprue, with the wolfy bit shaved off the back of the hand and covered by a shield from the Empire Fantasy range.

Love the look of the army!

Bikes with lances ... borrowed!

Assault Termies using twin swords instead of lightning claws ... very cool!

The free hand script (on the tanks especially) ... awesome! Looks much better than the typical scribble.

Thanks for the inspiration, can't wait to see more

So firepower, you used GK termies only? Or did you combine both SM and GK terminators? Or did you also used anything else? I am thinking about getting assault terminators and yours look sooooo cooool :) (like the rest of your army anyway :D).

Cheers mate. Your army looks fantastic. What's your recipe for the bone shoulder pads?

Certainly man, i'd be more than interested to see ;)

As for my bikes, I've already made 2/3. They look good enough, although I'm not too sure how to proceed with the painting..

But yes. Lances make them at least one hundred times more bad of ass

So, I've gone some time trying to get a couple things painted..and failed. Mostly I've been lacking motivation, and when I got it half the time I'd be fooling around with test models to try and master the color purple...which I also failed to accomplish.

But now..a completed model! Hooray!

A heavy weapon? Is this a sign that I've fallen to the Laeroth-side? Well...kinda. This is the first of 10 fire support troops and a razorback which will be acting as...well, fire support. Duh. They're all in various stages of completion, with weapons heads and shoulders done. Really all I've got left to do is black highlighting, so if I can work up some motivation they should be here soon.

Also, you might notice, I finally figured out how to take decent photos! Hooray! Now my mistakes can no longer be hidden by out of focus pics ;) Of course a paintjob is bound to look a bit sloppy when you blow up a model 400% as a jpeg :).
