who is your hero

Loken is ok but during my 2nd read I came to like Torgaddon more. My problem with Loken is the fact that he'll be really bothered by something and it will weigh heavily on his mind, and then Torgaddon turns up and is like 'Cheer up, it will all be fine' and he's fine again, without a care in the universe. It just didn't seem realistic. The problem hasn't gone away but it's forgotten because he was told to cheer up.

There is also some form of inconsistencies between Horus Rising and False Gods. He is very naive at the start of the HR but at the end he seems a bit more wise and worldly. Then we go onto False Gods and he seems to be back to where he started, like he'd made no progress. I know this is probably due to the fact it's two different authors but it was kinda jarring when reading them back to back.

My favourites above all are

1) Kalophis of the 6th fellowship, The Pyrae, Thousand Sons

- He's a crazy pyromaniac bad *** that loves devestators and overwhelming firepower as much as I do.

2) Nero Vipus of the 10th company, Sergeant Third Squad, Equerry to Garviel Loken, Luna Wolves/Sons of Horus

3) Horus Aximand 'Little Horus,' Captain 5th company, Mournival to Horus Lupercal the Warmaster, Luna Wolves/Sons of Horus

4) Dinas Chayne, Bajolour-Captain, Lucifer Blacks

5) Ahzek Ahriman of the 1st fellowship/scarab occult, Chief Librarian, The Corvidae, Thousand Sons

6) Vespasian, Lord Commander, Emperor's Children

7) Verulam Moy 'The Or,' Captain 19th company, Luna Wolves/Sons of Horus

8) Tybalt Marr 'The Either,' Captain 18th company, Luna Wolves/Sons of Horus

Tarik Torgaddon& Iacton Qruze for the Sons of Horus

Saul Tarvitz & Solomon Demeter for the Emperor's children

Skraal & Khârn & Ehrlen for the World Eaters.

Hurtado Bronzi

Garro and Temeter for the Death Guard

Ahriman for the Thousand sons

The spacewolf captain mentioned in the 'Tales of Heresy' novel, can't recall his name..

Loken of the Luna Wolves and Mhotep from Battle for the Abyss. Loken for obvious reasons of course, I liked Mhotep so much mainly for his staunch loyalty in the face of complete abhorrance once the members of the other legions find out he's secretly defying the edict of Nikea, and all his deamon-banishing badassery.

Ahriman is a new fav thanks to A Thousand Sons, which is especially impressive considering I was Khorne-like in my hatred of him, his Primarch (much more interesting now), and his Legion.

I also really dug all the Alpha Legion guys; you didn't get huge amounts of face time with them, but they gave off a terrific special forces soldier vibe with not a trace of the monk stuff you get from other Astartes in the series. I loved the actual human characters as well, of course.

Torgaddon. Like Loken, you can tell that he's a true hero, not just a killing machine like some of the other marines. And he's less stuck up than Loken.

Herzog and Pech. I love the fact that Alpharius allows, and even encourages them to have philosophical debates, even at the risk of interrupting or contradicting their primarch.

I completely forgot about Dinas Chayne, he was such a badass.

The Captain of the Night Lords from The Dark King: Captain Shang the Equerry.

Yea, I know not much to him but his job but he stands up to Kurze and questions the destruction of Nostramo.

Also all the Mechanicum characters that are Dark Mechanicum....

Nathanial Garro is my favourite character as well FotE being my favourite in the series. The is closely followed by Ahzeh Ahriman.

Also the Priest in the Tales of Heresy, he refuses to give in to the Emperor.

Like this story since you find out how much of a douche the emperor actually is.

1) Corax & Lion El'Jonson-I felt a curious mix of pity and admiration for the Lion, and loved the way Gav Thorpe did Corax in Raven's Flight, both fantastically written

2) Skraal- Ernest Stavro Zadkiel give him all his poncey intellectualism, and he yells 'shut it, Love Actually' (points if you get the reference), and throws Brazentooth through a wall.

3) Saul Tarvitz- If ever there was a chracter to be played by Sean Bean...

4) Alpharius- But you can't know why I chose him...

5) Zahariel El'Zurias- Loved his character

6) Konrad Curze- As already stated for Zahariel

7) Fabius Bile- "IT'S ALIVE, IT'S ALIVE"

8) Tarik Torgaddon- Funny guy!

9) Garviel Loken- So noble, yet fatally flawed by his blind trust in his brothers

10) Horus Aximand- He will be the one to shut down the shield, just you wait and see...

Grammaticus probably. Maybe it's just the books I read but I really didn't like how practically all of the characters that end up traitors were presented as bastards to begin with. I was really hoping for more of an actual "fall" to be written in, as in heroes going astray for whatever reason and slowly becoming that which they have been fighting. Instead it's a bunch of egotistical finger steepling blowhards that show no noticeable change upon betraying all that they lived and died for.
