Pulse
The command squad being heavily infiuenced by Greek Hoplite would be brilliant. Go for it! :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/212123-sons-of-orar-blog/page/14/#findComment-2764656 Share on other sites
Race Bannon
Still no Scout Squad in the army? *forgets thread forever* :P Nah, just kidding! After that Bat-Rep, I'll agree with the Sternguard as well. But I'm also becoming a reluctant fan of Speeders (because they are a pain to build). What about crazy-go-nuts on a third Speeder for a squadron? alejandrinus
Hi Ravendove, ill signed just to say you what a great army you have. The idea of the Hoplites are great but what about a command squad on bikeS(using the ones of your unused reavewing army) ala hoplites? ;) ? Keep going i cant wait.. -alejandrinus Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/212123-sons-of-orar-blog/page/14/#findComment-2764989 Share on other sites

Chapter Master Kanithon
Also on a side note, pretty cool that you've settled in Basingstoke. Although I haven't been to Basingstoke GW for a while now, not even sure when to go... I do indeed live in Basingstoke. Are you guys both local? Would love to find a couple more opponents to play against. Yeah, I live in Basingstoke, I've been painting up an army so I can go and play in store, nearly there now. haha. I really like your ideas for sternguard and command squad. Really want some of the Sevrin Loth bodyguard torsos myself. How do you plan to kit out your Command Squad? Ravendove
I know, I know, sorry. There will definitely be one. Eventually! On the subject of Land Speeders I'm a little divided. I think a single MM/HF Speeder would add a lot of tactical flexibility and threat to the army, but it would feel like an odd one out. You'll notice I have a very regimented theme in the army so far (2 x Tacs, 2 x Rhino, 2 x Speeder, 2 x Predator). Hi Ravendove, ill signed just to say you what a great army you have. The idea of the Hoplites are great but what about a command squad on bikeS(using the ones of your unused reavewing army) ala hoplites? :) ? I don't think it would fit, really. Greek Hoplites were always fielded on foot and this means I can also throw them into a Rhino/Razorback. A single unit of Bikes in a Mech army would get singled out very quickly. To play up the theme a little bit, I think it would have to be an Apothecary and then 4 x Spear/Shield (PW/SS). Might be nice to stick at least one Meltagun in there though, just in case. Ravendove
Board update Having spent most of the weekend cutting and filing pieces of wood, all the city board tiles are finally assembled! http://dl.dropbox.com/u/29108822/B&C/2011-05-22%2012.20.15.jpg The entire board takes up around 3'x4', so it's only suitable for small games right now. In the future I will be heading down to the local hardware store to get some more 'blank' tiles cut to size to fill it out a little. I also grabbed my scratch-built buildings out of storage at my friend's house, so here's what the board looks like with some buildings and scattered accessories. There's a ton of more stuff to add to this, but it gives a good indication of what the finished product might look like. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/29108822/B&C/2011-05-22%2016.00.08.jpg Here are some close-ups of the buildings and streets with miniatures for scale. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/29108822/B&C/2011-05-22%2016.00.22.jpg http://dl.dropbox.com/u/29108822/B&C/2011-05-22%2016.00.49.jpg http://dl.dropbox.com/u/29108822/B&C/2011-05-22%2016.01.25.jpg http://dl.dropbox.com/u/29108822/B&C/2011-05-22%2016.01.40.jpg http://dl.dropbox.com/u/29108822/B&C/2011-05-22%2016.02.00.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/212123-sons-of-orar-blog/page/14/#findComment-2767533 Share on other sites

Captin Xavier
Hey Ravendove I'm glad to see you're back in business, your army is stunning and I too would like to play against it some day. Reading through your thread I see there are some others of the Basingstoke lot here abouts. I too am one of you poor sods that have to put up with the basingstoke GW staff :) (i kid, they are great) Its great to see you back again Cheers Cpt X Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/212123-sons-of-orar-blog/page/14/#findComment-2780713 Share on other sites
Mau
These topic is very inspiring. Im looking for my IFs (not finished) for 2 or 3 years now and I just don´t feel motivated to paint the space bananas anymore =) I´m tired of the yellow, the army is too damn flat, and its almost impossible to add depth to the minis. Im really thinking on strip some minis and turn them in Sons of Orar, The only problem will be to get all the red paint needed. Im from Brazil and GW just put a sales block to Brazil, and also a friend just come from US and brought to me a lot of yellow paint... Thats a hard decission to take. Well anyway amazing models, I love the clean painting style that you apllied at those battle brothers. I too am one of you poor sods that have to put up with the basingstoke GW staff ^_^ (i kid, they are great) Haha, I must be honest, I never really go into GW these days. Between working full time and having my own place (with a gaming board), sitting in a cramped shop with kids running around isn't really my thing. But if anyone in the area is following along, get in touch via PM or something. Would love to meet some people and get games in. Nemesor
There seem to be a lot of us in Basingstoke, probably the first time I've ever been on a forum where there are numerous members I could very possibly meet in real life by accident. And back on topic, loving the city board, wish I had the money/patience/knowledge to make one myself. On that subject however (wishful thinking incoming), I'm interested in doing this sort of thing to get some variety. The ol' realm of battle board (I was young and stupid, leave me alone!) gets old sometimes. Not to mention increasingly bald, despite liberal purity seal applications. Captin Xavier
Hot stuff once again ravendove, spick and span as ever. My 2pence though, in my minds eye I see sternguard as properly blinged up. Granted no as much as captains and the like, but still with some fancy bits going on. Maybe a purity seal, or a litany or 2 here and there would really give them some depth. a quick off topic note :P We should get a Basingstoke meet going on, PM me if you're interested guys!! Dont mean to steal your threat ravendove, please forgive me :) beautiful models as ever, keep up the good work ;) Cheers Cpt X Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/212123-sons-of-orar-blog/page/14/#findComment-2789411 Share on other sites

Yep, I totally see what you're saying. I don't want to bling mine up too much though, most of the other models in the army are quite spartan when it comes to accessories. Personally, I see Sternguard as equivalents to Sergeants, which is why both have the same pattern of white (shoulders and helmet). The accessories marking them out specifically as Sternguard Veterans are the gold-edged left shoulder guard and the pteruges. I may well go back and add some purity seals around the squad, but we'll see. Thanks for the feedback though! Captin Xavier
I agree, the very spartan look works well, and if you start having super bling marines in and army that is very bare bones (so to speak) they wont look the part Maybe a little bit of free hand? just something simple, maybe like a golden laurel around the crux terminatus on his shoulder pad? Just a little something to jazz 'em up a bit  Cheers Cpt X Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/212123-sons-of-orar-blog/page/14/#findComment-2789465 Share on other sites
