I move house, I have no net for what seems like an age (two months), I still have no painting table at the new house, then I get online and see this...

You have been productive, they just keep getting better and better :)

If I can't find a table soon I'll have to make one, seeing stuff like this is so inspiring, some great army blog threads going on at the moment and this is defenitely one of them.

Oh Forgeworld, what have you done? ohmy.gif

http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/Images/Product/AlternativeFW/large/contemptor11.jpg

Just to remind you all I'm not actually dead. I have, however, run out of red spraypaint and green stuff. I'm hoping to get the three undercoated Sternguard completed this weekend at least. It'll give me something to do while my bank account cries and laments the amount of my money Forgeworld just received.

Yup, I just ordered two. Damn you Forgeworld, I'm sure your only existence is to make my bank account cry...

Loving this blog Ravendove, just re-flipped through all 16 pages. One small suggestion though, if I may:

This guy doesn't look right holding the flamer handle underhand, would be very difficult to use it like that, particularly with his arm outstretched like it is. I would think it would look a lot more natural if you put it over hand, then rotated the elbow out so he doesn't look like his wrist is discombobulated :cuss

Feel free to ignore me though, I don't always know what I'm talking about....

Oh Forgeworld, what have you done? :)

Well, they have made me a poor man for starters :tu:

I'm so getting one of those bad boys.

Or two...

Hope you plan to paint one up in Orar colours!

Or maybe I misunderstood and you don't like it :)

Here's some updated shots of the Sternguard. I replaced the Crux shoulder pads with second Mk3 ones, the overall effect is a little more ornate and bulky, perfect for front-line veteran troops. Also made some progress on their transport Rhino/Razorback.

Red is highlighted and shaded. Black and cupola done. Left to do is the doors, Storm Bolter, hatch symbol, detailing and weathering.

Blinding blog here matey. How do you find the army painter for spraying? I've heard a few horror stories about it, and I'm not sure about touching my BAs with it. My LGS said shake forever, then shake again, and again for luck. Any tips? :P

I'm pretty sure they recently switched to a different type of nozzle for the spray cans. I've had one bad batch (first time) but significantly better results every time after. Other than that, make sure you shake properly (should do with any spray basecoat) and only spray when it's not wet or humid, and so on. If in doubt, always try on some sprue first to test the conditions.

Sternguard Update

Sergeant and Heavy Flamer marines have their red done, lower body on the Sergeant finished and both chest eagles basecoated Codex Grey. Still to do: Fortress Grey, Skull White, all the gold work and the studs on the leather straps.

2nd Combi-Melta arm almost done, awaiting final edgework and skull white on the case detailing.

Really like how your Sons of Orar are coming along mate, love the combi-weapon in the last pic - very nicely done! How many layers did you do on it? I usually give 1-2 depending on how it looks. Your Sternguard are looking exceptional, I like the GK legs - nice subtle effect.

Cheers for the advice, I'll grab a can this week end when I pick up a few SoM goodies. :P

Have you considered painting a wash of blue, or purple into the deep recesses on your reds? I think it would liven up the colour a bit, and wouldn't take more than a couple of minutes per model. Check a lot of the new GK stuff for what I mean eg. Draigo's red banner recesses.

Thanks. I basecoated the arm white (normally this would be red, but I ran out of red spray). The weapon gets a coat of Boltgun Metal and a wash of Badab Black. Then I pick out the black areas (the casing) with Chaos Black, highlight the edges with Codex Grey. Edges of the metal areas get a line highlight of Mithril Silver. Still to do is detailing the Skull with Skull White and some blue wash on the Melta muzzle.

Not blue or purple as it gives the Marines more of a cold, clinical look. Perhaps if they were mounted on snow or city bases this might look better, but on the desert bases I wanted to stick with a fairly warm palette, so the Devlan Mud works just fine. I did briefly consider using a dark Green Wash instead, as this contrasting colour really makes red pop - but by then I'd already plowed through one Tactical Squad and didn't want to retrace my steps.

Quick little update on some work done last night. I've finally gotten around to doing the Tactical Arrows on the Rhino hatches properly. Here I am, masking the arrow out with some Tamiya Masking Tape:

Post-spray results:

Also, you may have noticed progress slowing down a little. This is normal as I just have a lot on at the moment. However, things are going to get worse.

Why?

Because last night this happened:
