I myself am working on the next installment of SP's story. With my computers machine spirit taken by Nurgle (computer virus) causing me to loose all progress on the Deathwatch story I am moving on to other things. Not to say I wont do the Deathwatch story but when I do, it wont be quite the same... wink.png

Aww I was looking forward to that Deathwatch story you told us about ages ago sad.png

I'll add something to this at some point...

Dont worry, I still fully intend on doing it. Although it will be a different story line etc then before, all the characters will be pretty much the same. Its just going to take me a little while before I get there. Lets just say I am returning to a far older project, and perhaps even a return of the Iron Gauntlet in some form or another.

I was a series of challenges designed at promoting and sharing the creation process of a chapter. Whilst the over all goal of having a IA draft completed by the end of the challenge was the main goal every month a challenge was issued to participants. These challenges were designed to promote the creator to think about aspects of their chapter that would otherwise be overlooked. Things ranging from influential persona from the Chapters history, to the Chapters "founding moment" to even significant conflicts the chapter has been in. Each year has been different in the way I have approached the challenge but I never really got it the way I wanted it and quickly lost steam each year for various reasons, thus there was no IG2012 as I lacked the time or energy to devote to such a project if it was going to fail. Thusly I am working on a new version of it to A. Encourage people to join and stay for the long run and B. Gain enough interest to actually last the long term. and C. Be fun for ALL parties involved. So look out people because the IG2013 is most likely on its way eek.gif
I concur with Messor and Ludovic - shoot me a PM should you require a hand. Having a community challenge/project is much needed since the hiatus/abandonment of the Liber Astartes Campaign. We have Liber regulars that are reliable stalwarts but if we can add to that number with any new blood that participates, it's all good. :)

"So have you heard the news?"

Ace strained his ears to hear the serfs as they strolled past. Being locked in the apothecarion was incredibly tedious, so Ace looked for entertainment anywhere he could get it - even from the idle chatter of the assorted serfs as they passed by on errands from different parts of the Legio.

"What news?"

"They say the one known as Silver Phoenix is going to start the Iron Gauntlet again."

Ace stared straight ahead for a moment as the serfs trundled off into the distance, complaining about the mess in the Culinarium.

"Apothecary," Ace called as the white-clad marine patrolling the rooms of the injured drew level with his door, "Could you please send a serf to get a data-slate for me? It's in the Heraldry Dept. workshop. Tell them to ask Cambrius for the one labelled 'Stonebound'. Oh, and it might be worth having something to cure epic headaches on standby, going from previous experience."

Pretty sure you can't have the Iron Gauntlet without me suffering a traumaticaly powerful from my own incapability.laugh.png

Damn sure there's only one Chapter that can inflct said headache.unsure.png

I wont post too much more here about the IG as I dont want to hijack this marvelously on topic and serious thread. But it seems that people really want me to throw down the gauntlet again so without further adieu:

Scribe Kolus muttered his mother’s prayer over and over again under his breathe. He followed the strange marine as close he could but the marine’s stride easily doubled his and on several occasions the marine had vanished around a corner or through a door and Kolus had thought himself lost, his throat jumping into his throat he would meekly call out for the marine, only to have him come back around the corner and Kolus would think himself the fool and coward. Still, it was not wise to travel through the DDDoL without a guide and Kolus knew that without the marine known as SP he would already have become hopelessly lost in the winding dark corridors. Still, judging by the condition of the corridors they were travelling they must be nearly back in the Liber proper by now. Kolus couldn’t wait to return to the safety of his scribes office and be rid of this strange marine. Suddenly the marine stopped infront of a large door.

“ See, I told you I knew the way out,” SP said, though almost more to himself then Kolus. Through this door and we are back into the Liber.” SP leaned forward and activated the doors control rune, “ Should be we come out somewhere around about Hall…” SP’s voice trailed off as the door slid open. Kolus could only stare in dismay at what lay beyond. Or, more to the point what didn’t lay beyond. Beyond the door was simply empty.

“ Eight…” SP finished. Beyond the door was a yawning void of nothing. No light, no hallway, just nothing.

“ Has Ace been doing some remodelling while I have been… indisposed?” he asked before shaking his head.

“ No matter, guess we have to find another way out.” He thumbed the rune to close the door again., “ Now, easiest way to get back into the Liber from here… Let me think…”. Kolus racked his brain for a minute, trying to remember how he could possibly get out of here but soon realised he had no hope. Every corridor had looked the same on the way down and he wouldn’t ever have any hope of getting back. So instead he began to take in his surroundings. Other then the door leading to the now non-existing Hall Eight there was only one other door in the whole corridor. The door had been sealed shut at some stage but it appeared as though something had broken the seal recently, perhaps whatever had removed Hall Eight from existence. A large iron coloured fist was emblazoned on the door. It reminded Kolus of the symbol of many of the successors of the glorious Imperial Fists Chapter. Kolus absently reached forward and placed his hand on the gauntlet.

“ Stop!” he heard SP roar but it was too late. As soon as Kolus’ hand touched the fist he felt the door warm up. The ancient door flew open and Kolus found himself staring into the face of an ancient marine, garbed in the colours of the Legio. The marine squinted at him with his one remaining eye before breaking into a huge and yet terrifying smile. Before Kolus could react the marine reached around and pulled his own right hand off. The hand separated with a hiss and click and Kolus realised the arm was bionic. The ancient marine threw down his gauntlet onto the ground, the sound of metal striking metal was deafening and Kolus suddenly knew that the sound could be heard over the entirety of the Liber.

“ The challenge is on! Come, prove yourselves to me if you can!” And with that the old marine shouldered Kolus out of the way and fled back further into the DDDoL, chuckling madly as he went. Kolus picked himself up off the ground gingerly, before wiping the old marines’ spittle from his face where it had sprayed as the man had laid down his challenge. He looked towards where SP had stood and couldn’t help but groan. Where one marine had stood before there were too again, the marine garbed in orange armour clearly bearing the marks of the Warp and the marine in armour of burning silver.

“ Now look what you have gone and done!” the marine is silver said before taking off down the corridor after the ancient marine. The orange garbed marine walked over and placed an icy cold hand on Kolus’ shoulder and bent down to whisper a almost inaudible,

“ I owe you thanks for that.” Before heading off down a different corridor. Kolus stood there shocked for a moment till he realised what had just happened. He was lost in the DDDoL, without a light or and idea where he was. And suddenly, he was alone…

EzekyleVIII sounds like you soon will. Great addition to the story and introduction to the Iron Gaunlet. Can't wait to see what the new rounds of challenges will bring.

Challenges, CHALLENGES! Now that what I like to hear about. I'd be interested in what these challenges entail.

And Silver Phoenix as I was reading the part with the mad challenger. I was hoping that the old Asartes would have pick his own metal hand and smacked the poor serf on the cheek.

  • 3 weeks later...

Watching the servitor finish its work, Olisredan cast his gaze over the other names carved into the wall, the smell of ozone and burned stone rich in the air. Others that had come before his time; some names that truly echoed greatness, others that spoke only of duty served. He traced his hand down the inscriptions and brushed dust away from a name at random.

“MOOGOO THE GREAT”

It was a name not oft spoken and the Mod had no idea of the individual, as was the case with some of the preceding names too. Turning back to the most recent name, “Ferrata”, only served to remind him of the transience of Modhood. Under each and every entry, from an early inscription that said “Rogue Trader” to the more contemporary past custodians of Modhood was the inscription ‘CEDO’. It was a word he knew and dreaded, reserved for those whose time had come. His gaze lingered over the pin-sharp lines, seeing duty and virtue writ large. Names remembered and those lost to time alike bore a weight that simple engravings should not have.

He was expected elsewhere and he couldn't spend all day gawking at his predecessors names. Hall Eight still needed assessment for re-opening and some rogue articles had been reported in the corridors of Hall Two. Also, unfortuantely,  someone needed to taste the cafeteria's new soup. Messor had been busy when the issue arose and was still preoccupied with the new arrivals. Grim determination twisted Olis' face as he checked and mag-locked his Volkite weapon. Somehow, he knew he was in for a rough day in the Liber.

I think this topic needed a gentle bump back onto the front page so here's something that ended up being a wee bit deeper than intended (mostly). :P
