Force Commander Toriel, Blood Ravens 4th Company

hey all. Been a while I know. Been dealing with school and some other problems. I'm still planning stuff out and I'm wondering if I could get some help on an idea:

I really like the whole open skull and wings on the assault cannon, but I'm coming up blank on where to get the parts for them. Eldar Swooping hawk wings maybe?

Interesting army project, it's looking good so far. Though the Captain's name seems odd to me, in the Dawn of War 2 Novel the force commander was given the name Aramus and for some reason any other name just sounds strange to me and Toriel doesn't sound very similar to the other Blood Ravens names either.

A Tomb Kings skeleton head would probably work for the skull over the barrel, I know there are some with open mouths and you might be able to trade for one. As for the wings I'd suggest the helmet wings from the Dark Angels Chapter Upgrade packs. Those would probably be just about the right size and shape to suite your needs.

Yeah I tried to read the first Blood Ravens book... couldn't get through it. Gato really butchered the story. So I haven't read any of the Blood Raven books. So the name Aramus wasn't known to me before I played the game. As for Toriel... compared to Angelos, Thule, Boriel, Cyrus, Avitus, Tarkus, Thaddeus, Martellus, Galenn, Diomedes, and Azariah Kyras, does it really sound out of place?

Yea the books are hardly that great but whatcha gonna do. As for the name well... yes it does. Only Boriel (I thought it was Boreal?) is even really similar, the others are mostly greco/roman names where Toriel is more an Angelic name. In any case it was just a side comment and a personal preference thing, what's more important is whether you think my suggestions would work for the assault cannon?

Fair 'nuff.

I had an extra Dark Angels upgrade sprue and I checked the size of the helmet wings against the length of a Dreadnought LazCannon (Don't have an assault cannon handy right now), and the length looks good on the Lazcannon. Thought I really need to check it on an assault cannon to be sure. On the flip side, it does make the helmet look even goofier on a marine now. ;)

I know updates have been somewhat lacking on this project log. Sorry for that. With classes wrapping up I managed to sit down and get some work done on a couple of the smaller projects in the army.

First up: Thule's Assault cannon

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a316/maverike_prime/Warhammer/dreadnought_weapons01.jpg

I magnetized the entire arm so the cannon and ammo box can be switched out for the lascannon/Plasma Cannon and the energy pack

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a316/maverike_prime/Warhammer/dreadnought_weapons02.jpg

Next in line we have Honor Guard Captain Apollo Diomedes:

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a316/maverike_prime/Warhammer/diomedesmodel.jpg

Basically no conversion work here. Space Marine vet with Lightning claw and bolt pistol. Drop a jump pack on and presto. Diomedes is ready to fight.

I have to honestly say that you are a HUGE inspiration for me. Your conversion work and dedication to your army projects inspires me to hunker down and get my crap together and finish what I start. I have two army projects that I'm working on at the moment (one being Blood Ravens as well) and I'm going along a similar route as you are, what with customizing your carrying case and such. Also I always loved the character designs from DOW2 myself although I dont have a computer powerful enough to play it :[ Cant wait to see more brother!

Okay my fingers want to run away from me right now due to all the pinning and drilling I've been doing today. I've been working most of the day and have completed two more characters for my army:

First up: Force Commander Toriel, recently promoted Captain of the 4th company!

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a316/maverike_prime/Warhammer/toriellaid_out.jpg

I made him to be very versitle with the ability to swap out his weapon and back pack options.

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a316/maverike_prime/Warhammer/torieljump_packpower_fistplasma.jpg

Here he is equipped with a jump pack, power fist and plasma pistol. Not exactly the sort of thing you want jumping into the middle of your lines.

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a316/maverike_prime/Warhammer/torielthunderhammer.jpg

Here is he equipped with a thunderhammer ready to go "Knock Knock" on something.

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a316/maverike_prime/Warhammer/torielheraldrypower_fistplasma.jpg

Toriel is ready to rock with a power fist, plasma pistol and Command Heraldry.

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a316/maverike_prime/Warhammer/torielteleporter_packpower_fistplasma.jpg

I added the Teleportation pack from the Grey Knight kit partially because I had the part anyway, but also because in the game the Force Commander can be equipped with a Teleporter pack. I guess I can use it as a Jump pack in game.

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a316/maverike_prime/Warhammer/torieljump_packbolter.jpg

Here he's ready to provide fire support with a master crafted bolter.

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a316/maverike_prime/Warhammer/torielmodel-02-1.jpg

I did some simple conversion work to the jump pack to distinguish it from a normal jump pack.

In order to make use of the Sicarius backpack I need to install locking pins into the upper side of Toriel's back to keep the weight of the back pack from rotating it on the model.

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a316/maverike_prime/Warhammer/torielback.jpg

This required the addition of pin holes in all the back packs.

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a316/maverike_prime/Warhammer/torielback-packs.jpg

Now, keen observers will notice I have 2 power fists, 2 plasma pistols and 2 chain swords and are probably wondering why. Well allow me to introduce you to Assault Sergent Thaddeus!

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a316/maverike_prime/Warhammer/thaddeuspowerfistbolt_pistol.jpg

Hot headed, impetuous, and as likely to jump first a to look before he jumps, he leads his assault in aggressive assault maneuvers known for breaking enemy lines.

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a316/maverike_prime/Warhammer/thaddeuspowerfistplasma.jpg

With the alternate power fist.

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a316/maverike_prime/Warhammer/thaddeushammer.jpg

Here he is equipped with a thunder hammer.

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a316/maverike_prime/Warhammer/thaddeusbolter.jpg

Mainly just because I can, I took a pic of Thaddeus with a bolter.

As you can see, all the weapons are interchangable between Thaddues and Toriel. This might sound a bit like bragging but I think I'm entitled to it. I think I did a pretty darn good job with these characters.

Very niceness. Did you have to do any major work on the assault cannon, or did you just glue the Bitz on? Also, did you give up on the leg eagle? :P

sort of. My sculpting ability is extremely hit or miss. Sometimes I can do really well with small stuff other times I'm lucky if I can get the green stuff to stay on the model. So Sculpting the detail on the model just wasn't really an option. But as you can I can to a bit of a half way point. I took one of the icons from the Commander set and attached it to the leg. I'm going to back and fill in the gap a little.

The assault was a lot simpler then it appears. A jawless skull from the Skull Warrior set goes over the top of the firing barrel. I had to shave down the mounting bracket a little to get the skull to fit properly. The helmet wings from the dark angels' sprue. I had to shave down the mounting rings for the cannon barrels a bit in order to get the wings to sit flat enough to not be a problem. Basically you want the wings at a 20-25 degree angel relative to the body of the cannon where as if you don't shave down down the mounting ring they sit at more of a 45 degree angel.

bit of an update... well more of a step into an update. I took a army case and have painted it up in Blood Raven appropriate colors:

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a316/maverike_prime/Warhammer/DSCN5443.jpg

The red is Valspar Outdoor plastic formula spray paint. Took me about 2 days and 2 coats to get a good solid color. Considering the total cost was $5 for the can of spray paint I like the end result.

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a316/maverike_prime/Warhammer/DSCN5439.jpg

I picked up a packet of Testors Printable Decal paper and printed out a series of decals. The two large icons with the text under them are going on the clasps of the case. The curved red text is the names for the bases of the characters that will be applied to the bases of the models.

the smaller blackish blocks are scripture blocks I made. Not totally sure what I'll do with them but I'll find a use.

The large black text that reads "Property of Michael Cividanes. If found please call yatta yatta" is going on the flat surface of the case under the handle. That way A) I can always identify the case and :) if I happen to loose it, there's a chance people can contact me to get it back to me.

According to the instructions for the decal paper, the boding spray needs 24 hours to properly bond the ink to the decal paper. So I'm waiting till tonight or more likely tomorrow to apply the decals to the case.

So I've spent most of the day painting my tactical Blood Raven marines and... somewhere to the pair of librarians sitting on my desk started calling me. So after about 10 hours of painting Scab red and bleached bone I switched to painting the dark blue of the librarians. Obviously these are not done, but I thought I should post 'em and get some feed back.

The paint job on each is slightly different right now.

Base coat: 1:1 mix of Chaos Black and Regal blue

Straight Regal Blue

1:1 Regal Blue: Ultramarine Blue

Here's where it differs slightly. On the terminator Librarian, I used a 3:3:1 mix of Regal Blue, Ultramarines Blue and Skull white for the next high light, while on the power armored librarian I used a 6:6:1 mix of Regal, Ultramarines and Skull white. Then on the Terminator I went back with Ice blue to add the final high light.

Could we get a few more angles on your librarians?

Right now the normal power armor one looks like the best bet with the highlight mixing you've done, but I'd prefer to see more of both to judge the color choice fully.

I've gotten considerably more work done on the Terminator Librarian in the last few days. It's not 'done' but it's done for gaming purposes. Nothing major here, just looking for feed back on the paint job.

I just played it again, and went as evil as I could. Jonah became the traitor, and I earned some redemption in the last mission, because not enough people died. So, I wasn't pure evil, almost, but just 'ruled by chaos'. Gabriel killed me.

okay, this is not meant as a Dawn of War II discussion thread. Please do not attempt to turn it into one.

Nice, I particularly like the power armour Librarian. If I did have a nitpick though, it might be that the pipes/wires on the terminator's power staff look a little bland, since the blue one just blends into the armour. :tu:

Well, I've been doing some work. This time though I've found that I need to modify my original plans a little. Originally I was planning on simply magnetizing the right shoulder of the marines that carry assault weapons. Well, it doesn't work. Don't ask me why, but something between the Plasma gun, the Melta gun and the Flamer don't line up the way you'd think they would. So I decided to just go the full magnet route and magnatise the marine the same way I magnatized the commander, both shoulders, and the back. And, here is the result:

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a316/maverike_prime/Warhammer/interchable_parts.jpg

Lotsa parts, and their all interchangable between the three marines. Well 'cept for the backpacks with Thaddeus anyway.

thunder hammer, pair of power fits and a pair of Plasma pistols. Defiantly not what you want running around your lines.

Marines, weapons ready!!
