That Librarian in power armour is just awesome!

it's funny. I've gotten lots of positive feed back on that conversion but as I was painting it I noticed more and more things, or rather the lack of more and more details that scream that this isn't a librarian and I've ultimately abandoned using that model as a Librarian because it just doesn't look like a librarian.

Aww.... I loved that model...

Well I've still got the model, it's not like I threw it out or anything. I'm just not going to use it is all.

Exactly. A model that cool needs to be used.

Hey all. Been a while. Part of it has been life in general, but a larger part as been my sudden (and somewhat explicable) drive to build my hunter-killer Apoc force of 6 Hell Blades which has turned into a large project all it's own. But I've managed to sit down and actually get some work done on my blood ravens.

Just a bit of a recap:

First we have:

Captain Gavin Toriel, recently promoted Captain of the 4th Company of Blood Ravens

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a316/maverike_prime/Warhammer/072811215958.jpg

Built mostly out of the Space marine commander box set, I got the head from the Sicarius model. A little green stuff to fill in the cheek bones a bit.

Next up

Assault Sergent Thaddeus

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a316/maverike_prime/Warhammer/072811220034.jpg

Built out of a Space Marine veteran model, removing the head was difficult, until I got around to placing magnets. OI VE! Was that ever a pain in the posterior.

Honor Guard Captian Apollo Diomedies

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a316/maverike_prime/Warhammer/diomedesmodel.jpg

A pretty straight forward conversion, just added a jump pack.

Next there's

Battle Brother Fred

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a316/maverike_prime/Warhammer/072811220100.jpg

Fred gets passed around from squad to squad a lot. So he knows how to use basically every piece of equipment in the armory. and then some.

Finally, there's

Librarian Joe

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a316/maverike_prime/Warhammer/051511021926.jpg

No one really knows where exactly Joe came from. He just showed up during morning roll one morning. How he got terminator armor is an even bigger mystery.

And now there are some new faces to put on the parade ground.

First there is

Tactical Sergent Tarkus

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a316/maverike_prime/Warhammer/072811220044.jpg

Resolute and unyielding in his belief in the codex, Tarkus is frequently the anchor for an attack wing.

Then there's

Devastator Sergent Avitus

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a316/maverike_prime/Warhammer/072811220050.jpg

Avitus wield his hatred for the enemy as his greatest weapons. His squad mates have been known to joke that while they do not fear the enemy, they most certainly fear Avitus.

Toriel, Fred, Avitus, and Tarkus are fully customizable able to swap any of the parts you see here:

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a316/maverike_prime/Warhammer/072811215939.jpg

Thaddeus can use any of the weapons, but his jump pack is affixed to his body.

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a316/maverike_prime/Warhammer/072811220321.jpg

Fred, Thaddeus and Toriel are prepared to lead the charge while Avitus and Tarkus provide supporting fire!

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a316/maverike_prime/Warhammer/072811220639.jpg

Fire base is ready commander!

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a316/maverike_prime/Warhammer/072811220828.jpg

For some reason, the idea of Avitus with a Thunder Hammer worries me.

Very nice, I think Tarkus would be the best out of the lot.

Toriel seems to have gained a glowing aura of some kind. I don't recall that being a wargear option. :D

Well he didn't want me to say anything, but he got picked for the next Twilight movie.

So I've actually been playing games again and I've been using my Blood Ravens. Well in my latest game I was with out recourse or alternative shocked to watch my opponents Deff Dread completely eat my iron clad dreadnought in close combat. So remembering the old saying that the Dice Gods favor the painted models, I painted my dreadnought. I only have the one dread model so far and it's been used as a normal dread, a ven-dread and an Iron Clad. With some paint on it hopefully I won't roll so totally badly with it next time that a deff dread will eat it. Anyway, here it is:

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a316/maverike_prime/Warhammer/DSCN0205.jpg

I got the Multi-melta arm from the AoBR set. Had to modify it to work on the Ven-dread body.

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a316/maverike_prime/Warhammer/DSCN0206.jpg

Just needed some plastic tubing the right size and my dremel.

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a316/maverike_prime/Warhammer/DSCN0201.jpg

I donno where I got the inferno cannon arm, but I have it, so I painted it. I had to enlarge the mounting hole a bit and then for security I dropped a magnet into it and magnatized the arm on the dread body.

And here are the rest of the weapons available for it so far.

Yeah I bet you all thought I had forgotten about this project log didn't you? Well truth be told I remembered following some health related bills I had to pay recently and am quit strapped in the disposable income department. So I was looking through my hobby stuff to see what I could work on that didn't require me to buy anything. Hey wait, I've got that entire Blood Raven's army that needs to be painted! So here's 2 biker models from the army:

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a316/maverike_prime/Warhammer/SAM_0033_zpseaec8bb5.jpg

This is my bike mounted captain. Model wise he's a fairly straight forward conversion. Grey Knight helmet and great sword in right hand. The sword hand was attached to a converted rifle holding arm that I cut below the shoulder and repositioned it to be held outward. A couple other little bits add to
the seniority of the model like the Raven Guard faring on the front of the model. The base is one point I would like to reference though. It comes from Dragon Forge Studios and I highly HIGHLY recommend their bases. I swear by them.

Next we have the sergent for the squad:

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a316/maverike_prime/Warhammer/4482c6d0-a288-47dd-966c-41c715afccaf_zps4333853b.jpg Blood Ravens biker Sergent with Power sword

I installed a magnet in the sergeants' left shoulder to allow him to use different weapons. This is going to be compatible with my other magnetized models in the army, allowing them to swap weapons as I see fit.

Great to see this log back on track. I really like the alternate power fist on the Sarge, in fact hes easily my favorite so far. :) Looking forward to more updates and Im also curious to see how the Assault Cannon looks from the front.

That assault cannon is awesome! It would be even more so if you sculpted a jaw around the barrel end, although it might look a little chaosy. The alternate power fist looks great and the lightning effect is great. Just a question though- why is tarkus holding such a huge ammo hopper with his wrist? I'm lost here.

Because you don't want you're fire suppression team running out of ammo half way through an engagement. *shrugs* I donno. I had the bitz. They changed the look. I used 'em. What more do you want?

Really great stuff man, what is that clenched power fist from?

According to the images, it comes in this set but I got it when I ordered just the veteran with the lightning claw when they were still selling them by the blister.

So I've been working on a new attack bike squad for my Blood Ravens. From what I've been looking at rules wise, I think Biker armies are gonna be the default go-to army for 6th edition. Hammer of Wraith, T5 all the time, a 12" move with an extra D6 charge range, relentless. I mean let's face it bikers got a lot going for 'em now.

So here is my new and freshly converted  attack bike squad:

So I'm sure you're sitting there saying "Wait a second, you said they were converted. And that they were attack bikes. Yeah the one dude's got the scanner array backpack, but what's actually converted? And why aren't they attack bikes?"

Well, I guess I used the wrong word. I think I would have been better off saying they are transformable as opposed to converted. Allow me to
show you what I mean. Here is the same bike squad with different bitz:

You can see the two forward most bikers are now armed with a melta gun and plasma gun.  Here is another change:

I magnetized them so I can swap the configurations between Biker and attack bike. With the addition of magnets in the right shoulder, the models are able to swap arms so they can be armed with different weapons. By putting magnets in select locations in the under carriage of the bike and matching points on the side car I can attach and detach the side car as needed.

You ever have a moment when you're working on a project, you look up for a second and something catches your eye? So you stop what you're doing and concentrate to figure out what that something is? And then you figure it out and you are like "Where the frack did that come from?"

That happened to be earlier today. When I noticed that I had a 40k version of Duke Nukem sitting on my work bench looking back at me:

"There's only two ways this can end: and in both of 'em, you die!"

All joking aside, the models are looking good brother, keep it up.

Yeah I know I know, I haven't been updating this work log. I've been rather pissed with GamesWorkshop of late, largely because of their new trade agreements but more so because of their bs reasoning they gave to justify their new rules. That coupled with their increasing pricing is largely forcing me out of the hobby at least out of the levels I've been at over the last couple years. But I have been working on my Blood Ravens. The weather around here finally decided to stop being Winter and get into Spring so the.... I've honestly lost count of how many models I had sitting on my shelf waiting to be primed. It's 2 drop pods, 1 biker, 3 land speeders, 3 attack bikes, 5 Terminators, a land raider, Techmarine and 11 Assault Marines all sitting on my shelf waiting to be primed, and with the temperatures ranging between 35 and 50 for the last month priming just hasn't been an option but... finally Virginia decided "Okay I'm ready for spring!" and brought in the correct seasonal temperatures of 75ish. So I was able to prime. Well some of my stuff anyway. I ran out of primer...

But I did manage to get 1 drop pod, 3 land speeders, 1 biker, and the 3 attack bikes primed.

http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ORRkd26DXzc/UWOECAV9yFI/AAAAAAAAAqU/8SfN2OoOmME/s320/SAM_0200.JPG

You can see the lower frames of the land speeders mounted on the tooth picks with the central computer console for the drop pod on the corner of the Styrofoam block. I only partially assembled the land speeders and mounted them on tooth pick this way purposefully to make painting them easier. Easier in that I can get at the interior details and then assemble. You can see the legs of the marines have been painted all the way down to the ankles.

http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-f9Xw8Dnj5SM/UWOGQ2KviRI/AAAAAAAAAqs/ip8JuYPE5-g/s320/SAM_0201.JPG

I ran into one little hickup with the land speeders though and it is a minor one, though worth noting. See I got 2 single Land Speeders, and the Dark Angles Raven Wing battalion box set to get the third. Well the Land Speeder in the Raven Wing box is the older design of land speeders so I've effectively got two different models. It's not a huge problem, but it has created a few minor planning issues. For instance the newer version of the land speeder allows you to build the lower section of the entire Speeder body and then apply the top of the body to that. if you look at the land speeder body on the right you see how the seat backs are attached to the bottom of the speeder, but on the left the seat backs are attached to the top portion. Like I said, not a huge problem just an annoyance.

http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-DuZFNvCHJcA/UWOIA4m4yNI/AAAAAAAAAq4/8rDMSMjtocc/s320/SAM_0202.JPG

So far I've only managed to paint the central console on for the drop pod. Nothing terribly note worthy here. But worth the picture. You can check out some of the other progress I've made on my blog.

Like this, hey brother how did you do the skull&wings on the assualt cannon?thumbsup.gif

The skull is from the Tomb Kings skelenton warrior set. The Wings are the Lion Helm wings from the Dark Angles sprue. I had to shave down the barrel mounts on the assault cannon so the wings didn't get in the way of the Sarcophogus. But basically, what you see if what you get on that one.
