potential jump pack captain model or a vanguard sarge.. not sure yet, needs a lot of cleanup whatever the case but i like his pose again so thought id show him off.

What parts did you use to create this guy. The pose is just plain epic!

jump pack chaplain legs, assault marine torso, space wolf head (with carved in scars and the mohawk/sideburns shaved off) master of the chapter storm shield (the one with the axe and shield) plastic arms that have been repositioned, the pointy power weapon hand from the commander box and a grey knight sword.

oh and a vanguard jump pack.

slightly off topic considering this is meant to be a fire angel blog and all... but i thought id show something off seing as ive been silent for so long.

was playing about with some different techniques, far from finished, but i thought id show him off as i quite like his glowy eye.

yeah i was looking at the whole brown shading thing myself.. but decided that just mixing more black into the gold recipe was the way forwards generally trying to steer clear of making my gold look too orangey/yellow and more like something of value :tu:

one thing i was considering was trying out the whole "True metallic" style thing with horizons and stuff.. but that would require far too much planning and thought.. plus hes kinda a test piece for a "tabletop quality" army i'm leaving most of the fancy crap for my templars who i want ready to rock the moment i hear rumour of a new dex of some sort

back to the silver!

had a decent conversation with mark bedford about his astral claws yesterday, got me feeling enthusiastic about painting and less annoyed with metallics.. (we like mark)

picked up a contemptor, but seeing as how the fangles dont have many old school things, i felt it needed to be a fancy one..

full on love this kit.. spent lots of time making the flamer look all badass, then realised that 99% of it would be covered by the hand.. ah well, the pose i have in mind looks cool imho so it doesnt matter.. undecided on if ill magnetize his gun arm.. the kheres pattern assault cannon is awesome and the other options just dont look as badass imho.

*hopefully photobucket will sort itself out in a bit.. the image is cropped and the right way up in real life.....*

little bit of an update on "Khiros; Guardian of the flame" :) its essentially just blocking stuff in at this point, will be adding more depth to the metals and various bits of weathering including more oil streaks, rust, battle damage and grubbiness round his legs.. i dont like clean models despite how shiny all of mine are!

the gold recipe for the sang guard dude is pretty simple, its tamiya gold leaf for a base coat, then i mixed in small amounts of vallejo model air steel (mithril will work) and the shading was done by adding black to the gold gradually. the highlights are all done with pure vma steel and the whole thing was varnished with gloss (any matt items are then matt varnished later)

oh and for any uk people out there.. "pledge multisurface wax" is the uk equivilant of future and the rebranded version of johnsons klear which is what fw use.. its £3 for 750ml of decent quality airbrush friendly gloss varnish

As a fellow silver painter, this is really inspiring to see what can be accomplished with a fairly basic scheme. Very clean, and really excellent weathering/damage. I'm really liking the way the Contemptor is coming along (this is actually the first time I've looked at the model and thought that it looks like something I would actually buy!)

Oh and amazing work on the Vanguard Sarge - perfect pose and everything looks seamless. Hard to imagine its pretty much a kitbash! Now I've got a bag of Space Wolf heads that need my "tender attentions"

thanks dude, i like the normal contemptor but seeing the relic one in person just made me go "awww damn" and off to sales i went.. figuring out what pose you want on one of them is vital too, theyre so articulate (mine knows 4 languages! ;) ) that the kit is a joy to work with imho.

my plan is to get the legs finished as a minimum today.. shouldnt be too hard *tempts fate*

update.. HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

um yeah.. ive done some more work on Khiros, was worried id unbalanced him by putting too much red on the one side, so corrected it by making the cowling on the cannon dark grey rather than the split black and red i had before.. (not that you saw it >.>)

http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd199/typhion/Khirostheguardian.jpg

not sure about his helmet stripe.. its kinda there to give him a more "old school" vibe and break up the metallics and grey of his centre.. may change it to the "double stripe" as seen in the fangle imp armour entry.. depends on feedback i guess..

lots more work to come, very few highlights on him atm.. but hes still looking like a bad mofo.

Looking really nice! Great pose and the weathering is really well done. I'm a bit of a nut for symmetry, so the lack of red on his right side kind of sticks out to me, but that's (obviously) personal preference. Another spot that stuck out to me was the aquilla - I realize that the grey is consistent with the rest of the marines, but to me it almost looks unfinished. Of course, I have no idea how one would change it while maintaining consistency (a paradox?), but when in doubt, goldify it! Digging the head stripe - trying to picture a double stripe... if you've got the steady hands for it, I say go for it!

Really great stuff so far; can't wait for more

the aquila still needs work, gonna highlight it and if that doesnt look quite right ill do something else. im hesitant to goldify it because i think it will overly bling him where as atm hes quite understated.

the red is an issue to me too, i looked at giving him silver pads on both arms but it didnt look right for a venerable old badass when all my termies have red pads on the one side.. i may try painting the back half of the fist red and see how that looks (will photoshop if 1st i think)

will have to test out the double stripe it seems.. tbh if it goes wrong i can always paint it red again.

yeesh its been far too long since i did anything fire angel esque... but i do have a fancy update for y'all..

the redone version of Brom, his shield needs more work but its magnetized to the body anyway so thats not too much of a problem. Much MUCH happier with the cape now finally looks as epic as it did in my mind.
