Lorenzen
Rightio.. update time! I actually planned on having more to show than this but hey its still a pretty decent update so meh! http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd199/typhion/fireangels1.jpg http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd199/typhion/fireangels2.jpg http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd199/typhion/fireangels3.jpg http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd199/typhion/fireangels4.jpg http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd199/typhion/fireangels5.jpg http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd199/typhion/fireangels6.jpg http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd199/typhion/fireangels7.jpg and as posted on the lorin alpha blog a little while ago.. the reposed Khiros after he got a kitten to the face. http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd199/typhion/KhirosGuardianofTheFlame.jpg both his weapons are just blu-tacked in place for now (no magnets to hand) but he will eventually be magnetized up and have a seismic hammer made for him so i can run him as an ironclad at tournaments. his other pose was cool from certain angles, but dry fitted with his very wip hammer (his torso and head are movable btw) he looks as though hes striding towards stuff about to make it go away.. Lorenzen
Thanks :tu: Honestly if i wasnt posting stuff up on here i doubt i'd be getting anywhere with this army, at one point i was getting to the stage that i wanted to pack them in and do an army that wasnt metallic as a primary colour.. something to do with the fact that no matter how long you spend doing a metallic colour people always look at it and just think "boltgun with a wash" unless its some true metallic shiny ass masterpiece.. The comments on here have generally kept my spirits high.. that and the fact that me and Batu are essentially flying the flag for the whole fire angel chapter.. i've been trying to split my time between the fangles and a board for my home (mainly to show up the members of my club and make them realise that if i can make an awesome looking board in my spare time, then the club needs to pull its collective fingers out) ill try and get some pics of it up at some point got an interview for a new job coming up tomorrow.. theoretically will cut my hobby time down, but tbh i find that when i have less time on my hands i spend it more productively.. which in turn means more pretty pictures for you all. *hopes* Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/223673-fire-angels-2nd-company/page/7/#findComment-2929407 Share on other sites

alejandrinus
Really like the last bacth of minis, they seems so individually but cohesive at the time (dont know if i explain it well :P ) and the relic comteptor is just perfect, also the white with red stripe helmet and the weathring in the foot its a nice touch. And really waitin what for your game board. recon0321
These keep getting better how did you build the guy on the center of the 3 in the last photo ( the one with all red shoulder pads and a bp and chainsword ) he is by far my favorite Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/223673-fire-angels-2nd-company/page/7/#findComment-2939635 Share on other sites
Shmitt21
Wow! Just stumbled on this by a misclick, and glad i did now! Lorenzen
the guy in the last photo is made up of nothing but stock parts so is easy to explain. head = chaos terminator lord head (its actually a repurposed one from an earlier sarge who bit the dust) forgeworld red scorp command squad torso - the red circle on his chest piece is where the scorpion was.. sharp blade will remove that in a jiffy) standard bolt pistol arm. blood angel plasma pistol arm with blood drop shaved off. basic assault marine chainsword. basic tac marine legs with one straight leg, one bent leg. basic backpack. 1 company champ shoulder pad, 1 forgeworld cmd squad shoulderpad. h beam plasticard for base. he was made to lead a 5 man tac squad.. overall idea was grizzled 1st company type who's been tasked with leading the remnants of a depleted squad whos sarge has bitten the dust.. essentially hes a tribute to squad revok and the fact that revok has the champ shoulders and chest piece whilst leading a tac squad.. half day at work tomorrow and some weekend like love coming up, am hoping to get some work done on them and be able to update lorin alpha before too long. elohimalpha
Khiros looks like a total badass - can't wait to see him with a hammer. Really great work! The tac squads are coming along nicely too - I'm really liking the sarges from pics 1 and 4. I'm assuming they're in descending order of completeness? The ones near the bottom seem pretty shiny still... Not to nitpick (he said right before he started nitpicking) but the green on the shoulder laurel in the 4th pic is a bit jarring. Maybe it's the angle though, because the laurel on the knee looks appropriately subdued, and I'm assuming you painted them the same. Fantastic stuff. and I'm looking forward to more! Oh, and congrats on the job! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/223673-fire-angels-2nd-company/page/7/#findComment-2940474 Share on other sites
recon0321
So do you hand paint all your crosses? This may sound stupid but how do you do it? My freehand skills really suck... Lorenzen
yeah the shoulder one isn't anywhere near done, and will be darkened down before it is "finished" they are essentially in order of completeness with a few exceptions (the combi melta sarge for instance) the crosses are all hand done atm (not for much longer, im buying decal paper because its a pain in the arse) its basically done by doing a thin red cross then bulking it out as necessary.. i try to do the bits on the end before bulking the main body out too, so that i can try and make them the same height up the bars of the cross and same width as each other, and most of the ends of the cross need to be taken care with because brushes dont lend themselves to doing sharp edges in freehand without a bit of work seing as theyre rounded... hopefully that makes sense. Lorenzen
Got bored today.. started painting some wolves up as a distraction. http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd199/typhion/wolflord-2.jpg http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd199/typhion/wolf-1.jpg lots of work to be done, but i needed to do something a little different to get the hobby ball rolling again. Lorenzen
doing something non metallic is so refreshing.. (not that type of non metallic.. im not mad) i think that i may have to put the wolves in the loft and hide all my non fire angel related greys before i derail my own thread into oblivion. http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd199/typhion/greyhunter.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/223673-fire-angels-2nd-company/page/7/#findComment-2953081 Share on other sites
Lorenzen
Right back onto shiny marines.. the wolves can wait dammit they arent shiny enough!! ive been playing about with alclad after finally finding a site that i can source it from without feeling like im going to end up with my bank details in the hands of some south korean scumbag whos charging my card with strippers and holidays.. http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd199/typhion/alcladmarines.jpg now some people may be thinking "errrrr i dont see any difference.." well thats part of the point.. ive been trying to colour match my work so that i dont have to repaint my older stuff but have cut out a whole load of stuff by changing my method.. so higher productivity and easier to replicate results with thinnner coats of paint = happy lorenzen. http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd199/typhion/comparison.jpg this is a comparison shot of the old method vs the new one.. he's a bit shinier and the shadows are a bit deeper (both good things imho) the difference is more apparent in real life.. but its quite difficult to capture with one lamp and a flash bulb. Olis
A thought occurred to me as I sat comparing the two marines you've painting - they look like they've been quickshaded. Is my assumption in the ballpark, or am I totally wrong? :P (They're looking good btw.) Lorenzen
totally wrong ;) one of them was ardusously painted with oil washes and gloss varnishes.. the other.. slapped with a homemade gloss black wash.. its the gloss that makes them look quickshaded i guess.. quickshade is gloopy orrible thick stuff that obscures details imho (i have a tub of it.. ive barely used it as it was for experimental purposes.)
