and as promised here is one of those last two tactical marines. I have named him Sargent Numas, the brave veteran who leads 2nd squad throughout the Badab War conflict. While the rest of the members of his squad have completely abandoned the lions head symbol that use to adorn all of their armor, Numas still flies to proudly on his banner, with the Tyrant's Claw much smaller and in the corner. Despite this he has taken the Claw for his shoulder guard since it is seen as an affront to Huron not to. He led 2nd squad all the way until the battle of the Palace of Thorns, at which seeing how his brothers were slowly slipping into madness and defiling the Imperial Eagle, he attempted to turn his squad on his own chapter to support the Loyalists. Unfortunately his switch of allegiance was short lived as Balathu slit his throat while his back was turned and the remainder of 2nd squad made a fighting retreat with Huron into the Maelstrom.

I am pretty proud of all the glow effects on him as well as the banner. The design for it was copied out of the Badab War book. I went with the more noble fluff for him based solely on the fact that he just doesn't look as ruthless as the rest of his squad. I think its the pose and the helmet.

Vote for him on CMoN here.

Comments and crit welcome.

Very very sexy, man, and I love the bit of fluff. Does this mean you are gonna continue with the Astral Claws, or are you still ditching 'em? Whatever your decision, I'll be waiting impatiently for your next work. Awesome job, brother!

Edit: Voted!

Thanks everyone.

@ThWulfen92: Do you want to know how I painted them or what I made them out of? To paint them I followed the guide from white dwarf on how the Eavy Metal team painted the Space Hulk Sargent.

Paint the blade black the paint the energy lines on with a 1:1 mix of regal blue and ice blue. Also hit the edges of the blade and any power nodes on it. Add in more Ice Blue and paint thinner lines inside the ones you just painted. Then mix in some white and again, thinner lines. You may also want to leave some lines or chunks of lines the last stage and not put any white on them. This makes it look like the energy is actaully flowing around it. Finally pure white on the edges, the nodes and any parts of the energy arcs that are touching either of those two. I also tend to make the area around the nodes have a glow (since this is where the energy is coming from) and have a higher concentration of energy lines near the tip. Give this whole thing a glaze of a 1:1 mix of dark angels green and hawk turquoise. Touch up the white highlights again and you're done. Or you can go one step further (which I did on the tech marine) and start doing glazes of pure white near the tip to make it look like a ton of energy is there, just don't over do it and make sure it blends in.

Hope that helps

Wow nurgling6688, impressive army and great freehand. The lighniting fx and conversion in Valthex are amazing.

Really liking the short story for every astarte, specially brother Balathu. And Sargent Numas powersword and banner are just WOw.

Keep the good work going, waiting for the next update nurgling6688

Hey everyone, I know its been a long time, I've been working on some Fantasy stuff as well as commissions, but I finally got started on the last member of the tactical squad.

This guy is still very wip, I still have to do some putty work around his bionic eye, his "belt buckle" and maybe his bionic arm.

Let me know if you guys have any suggestions. I was originally going to have him looking at the scanner with his other arm cradling the bolter as its slung over his shoulder, but that would have required sculpting his entire left arm from the elbow down. Plus I feel like this pose fits in with the rest of the quad more.

Hes finished! The last member of the Tactical squad. I don't have any fluff for him yet, but I'm leaning towards Tech Adapt since he has the scanner, bionic arm and bionic eye. Let me know what you think.

I don't think I'm going to sell these guys anymore, but I still don't know. I am also thinking of adding some snow and such to their bases to make them pop more.

Comments and crit welcome as always.

Seriously nice work as always mate, not sure on the oversized groin guard though!

Agreed on the "cup" I don't think like it as much.

But love everything else. Especially the reflective lighting and ocular work.

Some army shots! Its finally playable, yet no games played though.

I took these pictures at my local store to make use of their tables and terrain so the lighting is not the best. I plan on going back and taking professional photos of every model and squad.

Oh yeah, I re did all the bases. Decided that the grey wasn't popping enough. I tried just adding snow at first but then I decided that the ground needed to be brighter as well. I think it also makes the Red Scorpion parts on the bases stand out a bit more. There will be better shots of them later.

Let me know what you think.

I like the redone bases.

Love that they are on the table top! You make me want to break out modeling stuff and get to work. Gw should post these on their site as a fine representation of the Astral Claws.
