A Landspeeder Stormtalon. Sounds intriguing cool.png

Find an easy way to do it so shmucks like me can copy you :teehee:

As for successors;

Perturbed Pigeons

Irate Yellow Breasted Finches

War Warblers

Gratuitously Violent Chickadees

Robins of Springtime Doom

The Boids

I decided the Stormbudgie's fuselage needed to be stretched to make it look a bit more predatory.blink.png Always a good idea to do this sort of thing before you glue it together, by the way. whistling.gif Next comes the plasticard application....fun,fun,fun.wallbash.gif

I've been working on Strike Force Ickarius 2.0. The bad part about adding to an army you painted a year or so before, is its
just not going to look the same. I also wanted to 'stealth' up the old army. What I'm doing is matching the new painting with the old, then
doing washed with Athonian Camoshade (which I didn't have when I did the first army).... and I'm liking the results...

http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Ek2cdvbXz8c/Uj-dpgCljwI/AAAAAAAABWQ/-Y_FMFCnVks/s1600/Raptorwashes.jpg

A: Is the newly painted guy, using the new washes - which I absolutely love and didn't have when I did the army the first time.

B: One of the old guys with One overall wash of Athonian Camoshade. It dirties up the white. The wash makes the muted olive look
a bit more green and really helps with the recesses. I'm thinking another wash (or two) might work.

C: One of the old guys, untouched. Looks like I may have a plan forming.

What do you guys think? OH.... and ... tail feathers on the Cyber-pie.

http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-nrnovS6mvnA/Uj-hoxv6aEI/AAAAAAAABWk/EtH9oOeA0WA/s1600/Cyberpietail.jpg

More to come... Keep an eye open. Cheers Ya'll!

The Cyber-pie's tail needs to be longer, so I'll have take care of that. I have WAY too many magpie references. Probably has something to do with that pesky, upstart successor chapter, the Angry Magpies!!! In the meantime, the Tactical Squads from Strike Force Ickarius have gotten a facelift. Tactical #2 gets a 4 man expansion, with a Missile launcher and Plasmagunner. It will sometimes be mounted, sometimes not. Tactical #3 will still stay mounted and one of the lads ditched his bolter for a shiny new meltagun. Both Sergeants had a lot of 'ornamental" yellow, well now they are toned down.

http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-lFCc_LXa3IM/UkN_lNZLA4I/AAAAAAAABXM/JsyCg59HvBc/s1600/TacSgts.jpg

The eagles got a redo in new greys. Athonian Camoshade over the old olive green scheme, was pretty much the order of the day for the gang. Even over the white insignia to tone them down for field. Then everyone was re-weathered and detailed. Tactical #2....

http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-74m_NcA8QD8/UkN8uSFXWgI/AAAAAAAABW0/l03rcuv8r1U/s1600/Tac2.jpg

......AND Tactical # 3....

Here's a mock up of the GAP-TASTIC Stormbudgie as it gets its butt stretching.ohmy.png I am no engineer. I really should have planned this better.wallbash.gif So, for the next one (yeah.... its like a basset hound, so ugly I want another one) I'll do all the cutting and pasting BEFORE I put the darned thing together. SO.. I'll be doing my best job of Orky/Rednekk Engineering- i.e: slapping styrene together and filling the gap with greenstuff, filing and cutting, hacking and sawing, until it all looks right...or at least it will once its covered in paint.

http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-2p96DoZ23V4/UkODRZcmswI/AAAAAAAABXU/qNuTaI0OH5s/s1600/Budgietail01.jpg

But here's the basic profile. I still haven't figured out how I'm going to arm it .... or where I'm putting the weapons..... or the landing gear....wacko.png

Cheers Ya'll!thanks.gif

Pray for me Chaplain, for I know not what I do.

*Hearty chuckle* Ah, but there is only correct course of action of what you can do brother!  Pick up the pen and paper pad, take down measurements, and chant the proper litanies and incantations as you measure and cut (measure twice cut once) the proper ceramite plating for this most holy of killing machines!  Once the task is complete, make sure that there are, in fact, no orks aboard your motorpool...

...Or suffer a most righteous paddlin!

Seriously though, take your time and map things out very methodically.  Otherwise you're going to need a new fuselage entirely, and that would suck.

Methodically?ermm.gif Map things out?no.gif a-Hur,hur-hurlaugh.png laugh.png laugh.png

There's a whole lot of "Er-yup. that looks about right, just make two of those and we'll jam some putty in to fill the gaps." going on in this workshop , preacher. If I could use Duct tape on this thing I likely would.rolleyes.gif

Seriously, though. I began laying in panels and I think after a bunch of sanding and probably some re-scribing or 'fudging' of panel lines to stick with the Imperial asthetic, it'll likely look like an up-armored or 'in- field repaired' aircraft. Which opens up some paint scheme options like - they salvaged teh tail from one damaged aircraft to repair another, with obvious difference in paint schemes, etc. Hmmm drool.gif

I can tell anyone thinking of just chopping off the tail to lengthen it, there is some rebuilding/widening of the fuselage involved to make the proportions look right. The Stormbudgie has some funkie angles to it. Not impossible at all. But, a challenge. Those plasticard and engineering wizards out there could do it easily. I'm definitely still thinking of building my "landspeeder Storm" out of the 'budgie kit. Just trying to figure out if I'm really going to need both kits of if scratch building the whole scout bay would be easier.geek.gif

Just by lengthening the craft it already starts to look better, which is what I was planning to do when I get around to buying mine.  And leave off the landing gear, the craft is in flight and has it retracted.  Smack anyone who gives you crap over it with a pipe, either one for smoking or one for plumbing, your choice.

Might I suggest getting a set of the Ravenwing TL assault cannons instead of the My First GAU-8 set that comes with the kit?  They're scaled better for the craft, one of the frater on the board has done just that and they look much better.

Yup, looks good stretched a bit!

And when it comes to filling the gaps, well that should be fun, I remember just how much fun it is, oh so much fun, but do like the idea of "field repair" style painting showing that the part was salvaged or gifted by a brother Chapter.

Also liking the toned down infantry, nice touch that on raptors and really quite fluffy!! Not saying that your raptors are "fluffy" per say, ahh you know what I mean chap.

Looking forward to seeing one of these fabled magpie brothers in the flesh soon!

The ugly and chaotic process of slapping together the 'budgie. Once its all sanded, it should be nice...

http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-vq21R_g3ZVM/UkjBTW4WUlI/AAAAAAAABYc/wkJZTVNs8l8/s1600/Stage3.jpg

Once its all sanded, then I'll 'pretty' it up as needed to keep with the Imperial asthetic, but this should get the shape and form all together.

Buddy, you would never know that an ork meks heart beats in your chest biggrin.png

Well..... Orks are the galactic rednecks and I am definitely a redneck. yes.gif Yessir. I actually got the sanding done tonight and was suprised how good it came out. I didn't throw the censored.gif model across the room even ONCE! -- though I was tempted.... The nose was also a mess and I've dealt with that. This is the middle of my "weekend", so I'm in the midst of a 'waiting for glue and putty to dry" break, having a PB&J and a coffee, then I'll be back at it. I'll likely have pictures up here and at my blog tomorrow of the 'ready for paint' 'budgie. If its not too bloody humid (I DO live in Florida) he might get his first coats of paint tomorrow as well. I have a nurgly flying spider-bug thing that needs finishing.devil.gif

The Stormbudgie is primed! Here's a couple shots of her before she went to paint. The 'orky engineering' turned out pretty good after all the sanding was done.

http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-lzEe2zsrLL8/UkrfJZ8OvvI/AAAAAAAABZI/20MnlKY31JI/s1600/Budgieside.jpg

I've also figured out the basic scheme for the "Angry Magpies" and base coated my Dark Vengence bikers, because the interwebs says the ONLY way to play marines is with bikes, ya know.eek.gif Also started work on this guy as their jump packing Librarian and chief grudge keeper....

http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ngRK9Go_ZXM/UkrgC1VApkI/AAAAAAAABZY/czst3gthQsY/s1600/MagpieLib01.jpg

There's some more in progress stuff if anyone is interested in looking at green putty and stock plastic on my hobby blog, but I should have some painted stuff to show around the weekend .thumbsup.gifthumbsup.gif

Wow, that has come out well!

And looks like you have taped up the cockpit ready for priming as well which is great news!

Interesting weapon layout too, actually really like the pod mounted A/C's although the ML still look a little low to me but hey, that's the general problm we have with the talon.

FTE

Interesting idea moving the ACs up to the pylon-mounts. Have to give that one a think or two when I get that kit. Though for the love of all that's (un)holy, drill your barrels, man! smile.png

OHHHhhhhhh yeah, I kinda forgot that. pinch.gif I'll get on that before the paint flies. thumbsup.gif

...Or suffer a most righteous paddlin!

Hey! Mine! No paddle for you! verymad.gif

Anyway, kinda hard to make a fair comparison with the before and after images of your infantry just on account of the difference in photography, but I can say that what you have now look goods smile.png

I believe this army will not be complete until you make a 3 man Honor Guard known as the Goodfeathers. thumbsup.gif

Update on the 'Budgie. The basic color scheme is laid in with the airbrush. thumbsup.gif Oh what fun that was with our lovely humidity here in central Florida.blink.png Next, is painting all the details and weathering.

And I also got some work done on the basic color pattern for the Angry Magpie's Jumping Librarian. Irridescent blue-black feathers still to come.

http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-7JOu32b8frI/UlT8FRsKZ-I/AAAAAAAABa8/xjYKTybWtK0/s1600/MagJPpip01.jpg

Cheers ya'll!thumbsup.gifthumbsup.gif

Beautiful budgie you have there!

Somebody obviously knows their way around an airbrush, never thought to ask before but what set up do you run?

But that's by the by, despite some initially suspect grot rigging that tail extension is really sharp and gives the model the balance it so desperately needs.

Looking forward to seeing how you tackle the iridescent blue/black and maybe a bit of green feathers!
