First of two Vindicator Tanks is done. This one is called "Amboss" meaning "anvil". It´s even more battered than the predator as it is an assault tank being the Black Templars equivalent to a medieval battering ram. Sorry for the pooooor picture, but here in Germany we celebrate X-Mas on the evening of the 24th and there´s still plenty to do around the house. The tank consumed all the time I could afford today in order to get finished, and I really love the aggressive result, but no more time for better photos.

Here are some new youtube vids about my crusade...

If you celebrate X-Mas, have some nice days. If you don´t, have some nice days too . Celebrating Christmas with the family (and some of them I don´t even remember ) leaves a lot of time for figuring out, what I´m going to paint for my crusade next... shooty initiates? close combat initiates? assault squad? more tanks... that´s gonne be a hard decision... Need to go, my better half´s calling...

Thanks. The autocannon is a King Tiger 1:35 scale barrel made of brass and aluminum. Cool stuff. Wishful thinking might be amour-priecing shells for the autocannon with S7 DS1 and 2D6 and choose the higher result for armour penetration. But that remains in the land of wishful thinking only...

Funny, I also thought 40k needs AT guns. Altough I alsways tought about S8 DS3, with 2D6 only for the larger guns.

I love your barrel. Must buy them at once. How much did you pay for them. Just saw a couple of 6€ ones.

Did you use the Immolator bitz for the Screens/Lamps on the sides?

Thanks a lot to all of you. Those kind words always are pure motivation for me. I´d like to share a WIP of my upcoming Preadotr Tank "Greif" with you. Still a long, very, very long way from being finihes but I think it allows a slight idea of what I´m aiming for... :-)

i will just say matt that the barrel on your pred makes me think either panzer or tiger tank from WWII...which is SICK :HQ: then again, if memory serves, you are from Germany?? very well done, i dig all of your models matt, congrats on getting your stuff on GW's site! your models are awesome and make me drool :HQ: in jealousy, but at the same time want to strive for your proficiency! thanks for sharing!

Every time I look at your miniatures, I remember why I picked the Black Templars in the first place. They are on truly epic proportions. These models are done with such skill that I'd never hope to match it. As always, exquisite job Madmatt! The 'Ard Boys team better start taking lessons from YOU when they paint up our miniatures for our new codex! ;)
Amazing, as always Matt. Simply amazing. I love watching your vids on the Tube. I'm debating on whether to buy a bottle of the Tamiya Clear Red Acrylic for some of those realistic blood effects. I say to heck with the ARD Boys painting the minis for our new Dex Showcase! GW should just use yours! Truly epic my friend, truly. Please keep up the great work and keep posting those vids. :)

This question goes out to Matt, but anyone can chime in too.

How is the "dirty" white on the inner armor accomplished? I'm trying it on a test model where I' used Vermin Brown, Kommando Kakki, and then Bleach Bone... the outcome is not to my satisfaction. Please help! Thanks.

Raz

I dunno how he does it. I dunno how he does most of what he does, really. But how I do mine which is similar, but not quite the same (check the link in my sig to see my results) is as follows.

Base with Dheneb stone, using thinned wet layers (as you always should) until you get a flat finish. Paint graveyard earth, again with thinned layers until flat. Stipple Khommando Khaki. Stipple Bleached Bone, leaving some of the previous layers showing. You can go back and do Graveyard Earth or Khaki in layers afterwards to darken up the corners if you get overzealous with the lighter shades.

Stippling, in case you're unfamiliar with the idea, is using a brush that is more or less at the end of its life and 'jabbing' the paint on. It's sort of like dry-brushing, meaning that you don't want much paint on the brush before you actually start. After that, it's just poke-poke-poke and you'll be left with a 'spotty' covering. It helps to have the brush be old and frayed to spread out the details, but also this technique will more or less ruin the brush for conventional painting, so using a fresh or well maintained one will just be wasteful.

Most likely there will be no more tutorials as it doesn´tt fullfill the plan to be asked less often, how I achieve certain effects. People seem to be to lazy to look through my threads for finding them and ask me directy. Thus, I deceided to save the time and use it on painting.

It has been quiet around my Templars the last few months. To be honest, I thought about quitting GW wargaming, as I´m getting more and more p+++ed off by the silly information policy they do... I always loved looking forward to upcoming things. Indeed I haven´t spent a single cent for GW stuff since December. I got into other tabletop games... FoW, Dust... and so on. I´m still not sure whether to stay with GW or quitting it once and for all. The recent rumours about the new rulebook make me feel sending all my GW stuff to ebay. But as it is with rumours, I´m gonna wait until I can read the rulebook in my local GW store. That will be my personal D-Day.

I´ve been painting some tabletop standart comissions lately and finally decided to get back to painting my Templars... I´ve just primed some more Initiates and got the 75% finished Landraider Crusader from the "to be finished later"-box.... Well some update in the next few weeks seems to be pretty likely.

So guys, let´s hope they have made a worthy new rulebook. I really liked the leaked pdf Version when I saw it lying around at a tournament. That might be the chains to bind me to GW for some more years...

if you end up getting rid of your army ill totally buy your Emperor's Champion and Reclusiarch Eberhart. and i sincerely hope you stay with GW. I dont even play, just model and paint templars for my hobby and ur models and tutorials have given me some serious inspiration.

Regarding painting the glowing red lens, it literally is applying lots of watered down Scab Red as Madmatt have answered long time ago in this thread.

Sometimes you just have to experiment the proportions and the method of application. The pieces to the puzzle has been laid out, you just have to try to put them together.

In the case of the red lens, he did say it was watered down application of scab red. Although he did not say how, but based on his tutorial for prepping and the beginning stages of painting his initiates we can see he likes to use techniques of wet blending. With that in mind you can try to apply that method of doing the red lens

Hope this helps!

Also, when will you post another tutorial- quite a few of us want to know how you do your glowing red helmet lenses.

Google is such a wonderful tool when you bother using it...

Ludovic

and the results show tutorials painting green lenses 9 times out of 10. Don't assume that people haven't tried google just because they asked a question man, that isn't cool. Some of us are not as talented in painting technique or color wheel blending/match-ups as our more talented brothers; so asking for help shouldn't be discouraged with a snarky website link.

That helps significantly, thank you.

Madmatt I'm sorry that the hobby is discouraging your stay- many of us would be saddened to see you go. I hope that 6th edition is as good as you hope so we can see more projects from you in the future. Your army is inspirational, and I speak for many when I say that threads like yours inspire many to become better, and more ambitious painters.
