Try it (with some spare cardboard first before cutting), so that you've two smaller wings slightly further apart, set at a sharper upwards angle ?

Perhaps even further apart and inverted similar to a Storm Eagle, but it's not working as a single piece.

Thanks for the honest replies folks. I have to agree, it's been bugging me as well. I'll have another look at it after work. I think part of the problem is the Defiler plate joining the two wings. I have more of the Storm Talon tail so I'll mess about with that as well.

I have been thinking on your tail issues.....

So I'm thinking you remove the driver plate and go with the end part of the talon tail in an F-4 style (granted single engine)

So with the tail overhanging some.

Orrrrr go down the successor route, twin tail ala F-14, in line with the engine winglets maybe?

Lots of fun to be had either way!

Koriel, thanks buddy, I think that bits from the Grey Knights kit but really can't be sure.

Nighthunters, I like those suggestions. The Violators on the back burner today though as what little time I did manage was spent building another couple of characters and doing a little painting. The characters I'll show tomorrow ;) but here's as far as I got with the paint.

Ok here are the characters I knocked up both are reworks of earlier characters.

First up is Varrus KinSlayer

Here was his very first mockup.

Which progressed to this.

And here is how he looks now, I decided to just build a dedicated Khârn proxy so went for a more wysiwyg look.

The Greenstuff needs a lot of tidying on his faceplate. I did it late at night in poor light and at the time thought it looked fine. :-/

Next up is the main man himself. Lord Malek Deimos. Captain of the 18th Assault. Who fought alongside Angron on Armageddon and still feels the sting of his primarchs defeat here.

Originally he looked like this.

I decided he wasn't dynamic or imposing enough so grabbed a few bits and changed him to this. Obviously still a lot to be done but I think this is his final build. I may swap the head in the future but for now I'm more than happy with him.

I also finished the Jugger

Kinn Slayer/Khârn looks SO dynamic!!! I REALLY like him, well done.

I also like the Lord Malek Deimos conversion. I say keep that head because it matches your avatar

Do you have any of the other Daemon blades? the sergeants (or whatever Daemons call them) blade may look cooler on this model.

Have you thought about giving him a cloak?

Varrus looks like he's going to use his body as a weapon! Total disregard for his own safety, I like it.The update to Deimos looks excellent, there's a real brutality there. The placement of the storm bolter looks a little off, though. Really like the jugger, how'd you do the green bit in the middle of the unidivided icon?

Both of them look pretty awesome and very dynamic. Can't really pick which one I like better though hah. One nitpick about Deimos that sock mentioned above is the placement of the storm bolter really does look a bit strange, could just be the angle though.

Thanks folks,

Sock, the green part was done the same way I do the eyes on all my daemon engines. Nice quick and lazy. Haha. I just paint the area chain mail silver then I have some of the old GW dark green ink. I out a couple of coats of that on. It's quite effective under the right light.

The comments about the storm bolter are actually more about the placement of the hand I think. I'd cut the GK hand down to fit on a normal Termi arm and it doesn't quite sit right on the GK arm. I'll see what I can do to fix it. :tu:

Varrus and Malek both look amazing and it's nice to see them both becoming more refined after each new version. The little details, such as the skull and fangs on the lower leg, really pushes Malek to a whole new level.

Btw the small shields with the khorne icons, I assume those are from the skull crusher kit?

  • 1 month later...

So I've been a little snowed under again lately so haven't had a lot of time for modelling. I did have a free day yesterday though so built something that's been in bits for ages.

I've made my own Storm Eagle wannabe type thingy.

I used the Chapter House extension kit but I have to say I wasn't impressed with it at all. The base piece was very flimsy and there's a lot of gaps needing filled.

I also came back to the Lord for riding on my Jugger that I painted a while back. I'm still torn on wether to give him the bunny ears as I really like the new Chaplain head.
