I have a the dread Claw tutorial from my dread in my MM thread, man. (Pg 16, post 381) It'd probably be easy to use it on both hands, if you're interested. Your World Eaters are looking better and better, bro. Really looking forward to seeing that dread finished too!

1000Heathens, I sat and went through your entire thread last night. (full of inspiration) I am going to give your claw a try as it will probably look closest to the one I have. ;) It was your dread that inspired ye claw on this guy in the first place ;) Edited by Biohazard

  • 2 weeks later...

Free time has been a bit of a rarity again lately. Managed to squeeze in half hour tonight and started gluing the foot and roughing out ideas for the leg. This should work out between 6-8 inches high once finished. You can also see the bare bones of the second foot that I've thrown together tonight as well. http://i113.photobucket.com/albums/n235/Stovie_2006/c5c9f947.jpg

Have to say, that's the best looking defiler conversion titan leg I've ever seen. Most look too spindly and frail. This one nails it. Only thing I might suggest is (maybe) some brass (or plastic) rod and tubing, for some smaller pistony goodness, and your obligatory guitar/bass wire for wiring harness fun. Advantage over having brass rod around over plastic is the ability to bend and make hatch handles, various exposed small scale piping and wiring. Great for detailing. Please please please post as many stage by stage photos as you can (or are willing to) so I can shamelessly steal your idea :teehee:. Edited by Circus Nurgling

@Circusnurgling. Thanks a lot for the kind words buddy. I set myself a task back when I restarted this force that I was going to have an all plastic army and have stuck to that quite fiercely as I really enjoy conversions. As for the brass rod etc I've never actually used it. This is the biggest model I've worked on. Both in terms of conversion and scale, its going to need a lot of pinning to strengthen it. The leg you see is just to give me an idea of height/width etc. I agree I've seen some great Def/Titan conversions where the legs have been neglected and look like twigs. I want this to look purposeful, squat and brutal. And not a problem I'll sort out some more pics for the feet in a sec.

Slightly chaotic workspace

More bitz

Now the foot/leg. I don't know if you'll be able to see it these pics but the black bit on the very bottom of the foot is a Rhino side hatch.

Wow thanks for the generous WIP shots. These are all from Defiler, Land Raider, and Rhino sprues I take it? No criticisms per se, but I do see some things I would add/chop if/when I take up a project like this. For instance, see the dozer blade attachment on the back of the leg? I'd chop that and have it converge at the top, the 'calf', in a triangle shape, but that's just a matter of preference/style. Yours looks good. I have a plaguereaper to start soon, so I'll have wait for you to get done to start up a Decimator/Knight titan project (which is more what I was thinking than a scout titan, though at your projected height it could easily work for either).

Good luck and can't wait to see some more updates!

Thanks for the replies folks. Yeah all the bits are from Def/LR/Rhino so far. When it comes to detailing (waaay of in the future) I have a whole host of bitz that ill throw at it and see what sticks.

Funny you should mention it as I've actually been looking at that dozer part and I am going to work on it to change it up very slightly, as it is it restricts the range of movement of the lower leg. Messing around a little more tonight I'm going to have to beef the hip joint up in a big way. Only the foot is glued at this point. Everything else is experimental. It gives you a better idea of the height so far.

The Land Raider carcass it's resting on will be the basis of the torso hopefully. Not 100% sure how I'm going to work it yet but I'll figure something out.

Here's a little more work on the hips. All gaps will of course be strengthened and filled. This is just rough WIP.

I think I just had a mild aneurism. Yep, I can't feel my feet and everything tastes purple. Definitely an aneurism.

This is a seriously epic project, and I can't wait to see more. Damn... so many amazing bits used so well. If only I had more money.

Ooh, that's looking really nice, there, Biohazard. Your use of bitz is astonishing as usual, the mechanics are amazing but I really enjoy the Defiler battlecannon plate + Ogre gutplate = World Eater symbol, very clever. Dread's lookin' good too, can't wait to see more.

Guys thanks a lot for your kind words. I had no idea if this scale of kit bash would actually work and hearing your comments is really pushing me to work on this force. The Titan project is going to cost a fethin fortune but I'm really pleased with how it's coming along. I need a few bits for the second foot so I'll be scouring bitz sites today but I'll be able to have the second leg built this weekend. Hopefully. And seriously thanks again.

@Subtle Discord: I'm reminded of the scene from Kick Ass at the breakfast table :-D

@Heathens and Raz: both your project logs are massive inspirations to me so keep working on your force and I'll keep working on mine. ;-)

I need to set aside some time for painting the Zerkers soon as well as work on the 2nd Daemon Prince amd Terminators. I really should learn to focus on one project.

If I'm not mistaken that is part of a dreadnought's legs connecting the toes to heel.

Anyway looks great. The best scratch built titan I have ever seen.

Daemon claw. The Land Raider is exactly what I'll be using for the main body. Ill try and change it a little so it doesn't just look like a tank on legs. I haven't had a chance to work on it today yet but heres couple of closer pics of the hip.

Bulked out the right way, and you'll barely know it's a Land Raider. With what you've done so far, I have no doubt it will come together nicely. That thing is going to be really imposing, and look so unique.

Damn these boards, so many good ideas to temp me to distraction! *Eyes his two Defiler kits with new perspective...* Who am I kidding, when the temptation to distraction is this good, who can complain?

When I first thought about cutting up my defiler I was a little hesitant as its a pretty expensive kit. I got over it quickly when I adopted the usual Scottish attitude of 'F*** it! Let's just do it see what happens!' and dived straight in.
