The Tempest Hounds

Recommended Posts

Thanks for the input fellas, think I'll be going with head A then. Made a bit of progress yesterday and I can definitely see the appeal of the Black Legion through this guy but I won't be tempted. Going to crack open a pot of Necron Abyss and get started, so far I've mostly just done the mettalics and finished his base.

@Haelim- Yeah that model isn't bad, I just have a thing about unhelmeted marines. I dunno, I just don't like marines without helmets haha.

Thanks brother and I definitely know what you mean there. I think for me its more fluff related, it just doesn't seem tactical to go into a fight without a helmet, or how would you fight in the void without a helmet? Haha just random thoughts about that.

Anyway a little progress on the new fella. C&C or not, I like how he's turning out so far, just a little annoyed with the gritty texture from the primer but oh well.

**SNIP**

Thank you!

This is one of my biggest pet peeves of all time.

"Listen Praetor, the men all agree your new haircut looks amazing... but wouldn't it make more tactical sense to have access to our vox-net, vastly improved targeting and information acquisition software, and protection for the only organ we don't have at least two of?"

On the serious front though, that Chaplain is ballin'. Your goldy/bronze color is super rich. Love it!

Thanks guys. I love that deep blue too, that's why I miss Necron Abyss so much. Used some of my remaining Necron Abyss for this fella. Anyway finished him awhile ago, forgot to put him up. Typed up some fluff, although its more of a dossier. I'll wind up doing an actual story for him too a bit later.

They say insanity is hereditary and well, the VIII legion demonstrates this theory to the utmost. Of course in a legion full of murderers, thieves and psychopaths, it is to be expected but there are always some that stand out from the others. The former Chaplain Zakiez is one of, if not the most, prime examples of this, although it hasn’t always been this way. Whichever company from the Great Crusade Zakiez originated from is unknown, most of the current warriors of the Tempest Hounds were not alive then and those that were there either refuse to speak of it. Regardless, after the events of Tsaltuga, Zakiez was among the few hundred Ambroz managed to retrieve before fleeing to the Eye and forming the Tempest Hounds. During the warband’s early years he was among the ever-shrinking puritans, clinging to the beliefs of the Night Haunter. He condemned the insane and murderous acts of his brothers for centuries until one night he was taken prisoner by one of the warband’s own Claws. They tortured him, laughed and enjoyed it until finally he broke. Their goal accomplished the Claw released him back to his quarters and left. Zakiez eventually, after days of recovery, hunted them down. While the aforementioned Claw rested after the warband’s latest hunt into the Imperium, Zakiez sprung. He attacked, his former badge of office smashing into unarmored superhuman flesh without resistance. He pummeled their corpses until there was nearly nothing left and several other Claws had to restrain him. No one looks to him for inspiration or leadership, his former crozius a mockery of the loyalist chaplains. Zakiez’s only purpose now is to inflict pain, as it is the only thing that brings him pleasure. He’s often found chatting with his trophy, a chaplain’s helmet from the 1st legion.

Thanks guys, I had the idea in my head for that guy for a long time so it wasn't too hard to put the idea into plastic reality. Next project is going to be a predator like marine and I'd really like some input from y'all, especially you Flint in this regard because if I remember correctly you had one as your avatar a long time back. Trying to decide which head to use, will be greenstuffing in the grill on the face or already did on a couple heads and then adding dreadlocks once the GS on the legs and his weapon dries. Also painted the faceplates a bit to see how flush the GS was, evidently they still need a bit more. Anyway, which head looks the most predator-esque, A, B, or C? The image I got this from used head A but I'm kinda leaning a bit toward using B.

Ah indeed. My very first avatar on the BnC was Machiko Naguchi, the first human to ever be adopted into Yaut-ja culture happy.png

If I had to choose, I'd say the first one. The other two, while cool sculpts are a little small for your average plastic marine bodies, and they end up looking kinda weedy.

Truncating the conversation on different helmets the predator has worn over the years (I could go into paragraphs on how Arnold predator differs from Danny Glover predator) if we look at the classic version:

http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/800x600q90/912/mGgvPM.jpg

it has pretty large, flat areas of ablative plating. I think the first helmet, with just a tiny bit of greenstuff to even it out, would give us plenty of surface area to work with.

TL:DR - Go with what Sanguinius just said ^_^

Option A it is then! That's a really good idea Sanguinus, I wonder how it'd look though if the wiring/cables were GS'd over? I'm not that great with my greenstuff-foo yet and they'd provide a sort of natural buffer to work around. Might try it on a couple of those as I've got 4 or 5 extras of that particular helmet. That Flint is exactly the look I want to go for, although I think I'm going to leave out the plasma caster. The bident thing in the background is for him as well, going to try adding a sort of claw for him like they use in the movies and games.

Edit: Forgot to add thanks a bunch you two!

Skrundle- thanks mate, your stuff is pretty awesome too!

Still working on my predator fella, really just need to do his dreadlocks and he should be good to go for painting. While I've been working on him (slowly) I've also been working on a couple other vehicles I had sitting around. The vindicator I randomly found in the back of my trunk one day this summer. I want to turn it into a possessed/daemon engine sort of vehicle, thus the fleshy bits and chains, etc. Then the rhino is going to be for a future squad, which if you can't tell by the skulls, will be khornate based. Gotta love those Khorne guys! Anyway just wanted to update this a bit.

Lots of skulls there mate. :P

Been having some fun with greenstuff. The vindicator is going to be possessed and I want it to seem like it is on it's way to becoming a daemon engine, so I've been trying to make it look as creepy as possible. While doing so I've been having alot of fun with making random GS stuff, like faces and mouths. Really like the mouths on it though and I just got alot of extra human body parts in the mail (like the hand). Should look pretty good when its painted, if I can stop adding things on and let it all dry that is.

First up is just something I did while messing around, it's not actually part of any vehicle just a spare part I had lying around. One of my attempts to make a creepy ghostly face coming out of the vehicle. http://i1094.photobucket.com/albums/i458/Garvi_Loken/Mobile%20Uploads/image_zps3be8f224.jpg

The next one I did earlier, turned out alright but I kinda wish I would've made it a little more evil looking.

Like this one alot, a daemonic mouth with a hand reaching out. Trying to escape or grab another victim?

Last one is my favorite and it'll be what this Vindicator's named after in the fluff I'm writing for it.

C&C if you want. I know they're pretty basic but hey we all have to start somewhere! Predator marine is almost ready for paint, waiting on the Tentacle Maker I ordered to make his dreadlocks.

Hey guys, been busy on the vindicator and converting a few other marines. Need some to get some other opinions though, for the fleshy bits (the GS'd areas) of the Vindicator, what color should I do? Will be painting them white then washing a few times. Was thinking a lighter blue but I don't think that would contrast well. Other question is the lightning claw marine, I want him to be a power armored incarnation of my terminator champion, with the same iconic shoulderpads, but they don't fit the power armored shoulders on their own. Thus I'm considering placing them on top of a pair of bare FW pads, but I'm not sure it works or not. Any thoughts?

First, any thoughts on the color for the GS'd areas?

http://i1094.photobucket.com/albums/i458/Garvi_Loken/Mobile%20Uploads/image_zpscdb93cdd.jpg

Second, the LC fella, do the shoulderpads work or too bulky/weird looking?

I'll share my thoughts on Vindicator.

Contrasting paint (like pinky flesh) for the fleshy parts won't work nicely, imho. Us, NLs, just have a very weird painting scheme, where the armor is dark blue and the rest of the miniature is (most likely) golden-yellow and red - these colors give little to no options in adding other color to the scheme without it looking overloaded. Finding other color that would match this scheme is really painful (I personally haven't managed to do that), but there are always 3 colors that will perfectly match with any paint scheme (in right proportion, of course):

- White

- Black

- Brighter shade of the main color (in this case - bright blue).

Black and white are the colors if you want to have really definitive contrast between parts. But I should say that both these colors require much work and attention - otherwise they will look just like a piece of paint in the wrong spot.

Now you've mentioned bright blue earlier - it's a nice option, and it would work really well if you want to give the miniature somewhat holistic look, but at the same time give the color some variation.

In the end, I would pick bright blue.

Thanks for the input guys, especially Ven. Your advice and comments are always very helpful. Good to have you around again mate.

Quick question, thinking of adding a knife into the Hunter's fist. Not sure if he looks good already or if he'd look too busy with a knife. Kinda looks calm but aggressive as is. Any thoughts? Knife in the other hand or empty fist?
