Very nice!

They strike me as perhaps being from Vulkan's genes.

Same reason that there are no asian, native north or south american, or african themed offical GW chapters.

Like the White Scars you mean? ;)

There was also the Deathwing recruiting from the Plainsworld, but that is all but gone... it was a little confusing anyway perhaps... Native American Gothic Knight Monks and such.

I think some of the Xenos pick up on other cultures though. Tau have an asian feel to them, no?

I wonder why the Aztec theme has never been applied to marines before. I mean... just look at how awesome this is... :D

It might be that it is distinctly non-european theme. Same reason that there are no asian, native north or south american, or african themed offical GW chapters. WHF has a good and solid mix of different themes from ancient cultures around the real world, with the exception of Asian culture, but 40k is severely lacking in that regard.

The Imperium in 40k is decidedly euro-centric in terms of it's cultures and themes.

I'm pretty sure Raven Guard and to some extent, Dark Angels are Native American themed, but otherwise yes.

EDIT: Hehehe, didn't check the last page before I commented. Castiel is indeed correct that White Scars are Mongolian themed as well.

That's still fifteen that have European themes though :D

Throne!

That is truly outstanding!

M-m-must make Rainbow Warriors!

I think there will be a substantial increase in Rainbow Warrior armies in the foreseeable future! ;)

Wallet willing, I think I need to make at least a squad. Perhaps never to use it, just to have it.

While I've really enjoyed the majority of your work on here, Greyall, this is the first one that I haven't liked. I'm not a fan of heavily themed marine armies and these are just way over the top into the silly range.

Your technique is still great, as always.

but theres always those last two, if GW has any plans for them, they could have a non-European theme for them.

staying on topic however, as always Greyall manages to impress. not that its a suprise or anything.

Hmm, I'd like to be able to say that my work is done, since this started as somewhat of a joke, but the truth is I tried to make the Rainbows fit into the grimdarkness of 40K as much as possible. To be honest, I think they don't look any more ridiculous than a Space Wolf (note I am somewhat of a lover of heavily themed marines). Still, the feathered headpiece does bother me a little, but I blame that of my european origin and a little narrowmindedness. I'm just too used to seeing feathers on Brasilian carnival dancers. =)

I assume the Spanish conquistadores must've laughed their arses off too, when they first met a jaguar pijama-wearing aztec...pretty sure that died down once their comrades started getting cut in half, though...

Thats an idea, Conquistadore Marines vs Rainbow Warriors. That could be a cool diorama :)

Also just realised this is the first time ive posted in this threa. Have to say i love your artwork, especially your attention to the smaller details. Going to have to keep an eye out for any more of those riddles of yours ;) Out of cuiriosity have you ever turned your hand to doing a drawing of the Emperor? I'd be genuinely interested to see your take on the God Emperor of mankind :)

I've thought about it, but the Emperor is already extremely well represented, namely by Adrian Smith in his picture of the Big E facing Horus. I prefer to "fill the gaps" i the 40k artwork, drawing unrepresented characters or scenes, or those who I feel could have a different interpretation.

Thanks, everyone. =)

One of the best parts of drawing marines is that I get to learn a little History. That weapon is a macahuitl, it's a sword made of wood with blades of obsidian (volcanic glass-like rock) glued to a indent (I think it's the right word) which ran down the whole length of the weapon. Reports by Cortez speak of how a fellow knight of his saw his mare get her neck reduced to a thin strap of skin with little flesh...

Obsidian is pretty potent, much sharper than steel. The added bonus is that obsidian tends to fragment when hit, leading to more pointy edges, whereis steel will typically blunt and dull instead. :tu:

Amazing artworks.

Each one not only another marine, but a unique character in full style and detail.

Also, I find myself in love with your overall artstyle.

Clean, forceful lines and intriguing shapes, a somewhat minimalist approach used to greatest possible effect.

I merely skimmed through the thread and apologize should I have overlooked what I'm about to ask for, but how exactly do you draw these?

Pencil? Digital? Both?

I would be very interested in a quick, brief rundown on how exactly you create those awesome works.

Keep up the good work, brother Greyall, and thank you for sharing it here.

Your armour and character designs rock! Only problem that I have is that Struthios will never look this good when he joins my Alphas, 'though I take a decade to make him. You have completely removed my contempt for raptors and I find myself needing to make him a squad. No more free time for me. :tu:

Sorry for the late reply. In fact, sorry for being late at everything, damned be real life...

@Uzhuul: I draw my little guys with a mechanical pencil.

@Orlunu: That was the goal of my raptor series, to have people gain some new respect for the Rocketmen. =)

Hey Greyall I know you probably have a crap ton of personal requests flood you daily but maybe you could do a Specialist series eventually like the one you did on the Raptors but some other ones like Tech-Marines/Caplains/Librarians. You could even go as far as doing chapter specific variations of each.

Just spitballing here love your stuff just like throwing more things on the pile of more things to do.

Hi Greyall, I'd just like to say again that your Rainbow Warrior picture is awesome

So much so, that I've done a conversion/kitbash in honour of it ^_^

Hope you like it. It's the basis of my second Marine army.

Thanks again for sharing your art ;)

Same here!

There was a Scrap Demon challenge at the Japanese GD today (40min to make something out of a mountain of random sprues). I was delighted to see SM, SW and lizard men and came up with a Rainbow Warrior standard bearer. Photos in my album HERE.

We only had clippers to use so he's going to be taken apart, cleaned up and remade properly. Over the top admittedly, but that was the idea of the challenge.

Damn it, they look much cooler!

I do have an idea for a RW Chaplain (hopefully the next mini) - a Kroot Head as an artificer Helmet much like Ulrik the Slayer! ;)

Anyway, enough of that before the Topic is hijacked.....

Hey, Greyall, awesome work you got here.

The stuff you have done is incredibly good inspiration / reference material for my own foolish attempts, especially the Marines Malevolant tutorial and the Iron Hands Termie,

Keep up the good work

*for any interested - here's the link to my own [albeit pathetic] attempt at astartes, for all you Iron Hands fans out there:

Sergeant Kredach, 2nd Tactical Clave - Clan Karguul

shameful self-promotion :)
