Unfortunately said Spartan is still in a box under my bed....

Thanks for the comments on the Death Co. guys; btw painting has begun! Admittedly they are only black with red crosses on, but it has begun nevertheless :smile.:

Midnight, I just ate your entire log. I've seen some of your work before popping up in google searches and the like, but seeing everything and your process was very inspiring. ^,,^

I recently got my hands on the Space Hulk re-release and picked up a Furioso to accompany what I'm planing on turning into a 'Sons of Baal' force. But I can't decide on a chapter. Normally I'm very drawn to what I think of as 'old school' chapters like the Flesh Eaters and Carcharodons, any chapter with that weathered, bloody as hell look (and light on all the Ultramarine style bling).

But all the new BA kits a pretty removed from that aesthetic and for a change I quite like all the ornate trimmings and markings on the sculpts. So I'm looking at Lamenters or possibly coining my own look and fluff for the elusive Charnel Guard. And the Charnel Guard, like your own, will have a heavy Horror/Gothic vampire look.

So, I have a few questions for you: Where do you source all your fanged bear headed marines and can you give me a little tut on your metals, the weathered antique looking gold in particular. I think it's spot on for what I want to do.

Here's a look at the idea for the colour scheme, the red is a little bright, but I'm thinking of keeping it for more prominent weathering. And as for bare flesh I'm going to steal your blue tinted corpse flesh a little I think, reminds me of Salem's Lot and 30 Days of Night. :biggrin.:

Charnel Guard power Armour

Really glad to see it's an ongoing project, looking forward to future updates. Keep up the awesome work!

Cheers,

Barraka

I've thought about doing the Charnel Guard myself. I think you could take the red a couple shades darker. I seem to remember reading that they use maroon and black as their armor colors.

Woah! Some uber-positive comments there guys, glad you like! Many thanks :)

Thanks for the ppositivefeedback, again greatly appreciated. I Would like to see a Charnel Guard army, not seen one done properly before :) but if you look closely, note how their scheme is similar to Chaplain Desmodus' own Flesh Eaters, surely not Mr FW!!! I cry Plagiarism! In all seriousness, it is something I would really like to see.

As for the BA kits, I like them, but only used sparingly. Too much means the parts get overused, and they can look too blingy. Just imho, I know most love 'em.

RE your questions, the fangs are greenstuffed (apart from one of my Death Co which is an overused Berzerker head!). Very fiddly. Some of the new BA kits have some with fangs however, and could be made to look different by shaving down their hair if you want to reuse them. In fact, one of the Tac ones looks very like my own Sgt Gabriel. I cry plagiarism again, GW!! :D

For the gold, I paint it Chainmail, wash it x4 with Griffon Sepia giving it its gold hue, highlight with Chainmail again. If it is a large are I will then glaze it with Leviathan purple. I did use watered down Sotec Green for the verdigris, but GW now have a colour for that (the name evades me sorry) and I use that now.

Hope that helps :)

Should be an update next week with the Death Company

Thanks so much, I can't wait to see how your gold recipe looks ^,,^

I tweaked the scheme again, trying to somewhat colour match from the FW IA book picture with Photoshop. And adopting the more traditional Green lenses of the Sons of Baal (but a little more aqua).

Charnel Guard Power Armour

Next thing to tackle will be the rather elaborate Chapter Symbol. Though I'm wondering if it's only the fanged skull itself and the cross is additional ornamentation?

I cannot believe this thread has escaped me for so long. Especially since you're a regular visitor of my own thread. I just spent twenty minutes wading through your stuff and I have to say dude you just won the internet for today. It's not often you find an army that has everything: great conversions, great posing, great sculpting, great painting, great basing, and a great, original colour scheme. I know I'm almost always positive in my comments, but this is just the next level. What an army! That blue skin to me just adds to the awesomeness as it is original, contrasting, and really draws attention to the vampire-like nature of your marines. I also love your use of trophies. Where do you get your resin skulls? They seem to be more detailed than the usual Secret Weapon Skulls I use. I'd appreciate a link. Also, those Astaroth conversions rockxorz. Can't wait to see that one painted. About your chain, I see you use jeweler's chain, which looks a little off to me, if you need a linky to a guy that sells truly small linked chains, lemme know.

Consider yourself subscribed, sir. Thanks for this awesome thread. From now on I'll be that loyal follower.

Thanks very much man, very high praise from somebody such as yourself.  I just a regular dude going about my thang in my little corner of tinterweb :D

RE the resin skulls, I can't remember! I got the original link from Biohazard - they were from ebay from a French seller (I think). They are slightly larger than normal which I did not notice myself, now that it has which does bug me lol, though they are nicely detailed. Hopefully Bio will be along to remind us!

RE Astorath, he shoould see some paint this year as I have used him with a few games and have been very impressed with the Death Company, though I am thinking of swapping his head for a Chaplain one, so it is not Valek again (hence not mutually exclusive). Maybe ;)

RE the jewellers chain, that would be great mate! I only used that because it was lying about; don't tell the Mrs lol

Thanks for the high praise :)

Looking awesome my man!

Thanks for the comment man, glad you like :p

Still waiting on these :biggrin.: (he knows what I am talking about:) )

Well if biohazard would post his 'skull-sellers-ebay-link', I'll post the link to the brass chains: here. The guy is from the Isle of Mann, super friendly and he ships super fast. It's totally worth the semi-high P&P costs.

They are wicked mate, many thanks for that. Better than the FW ones ;) and certainly better than the jewellers chain I have been using. I have pm'd Bio, but he is probably a bit busy at the moment I bet with his little World Eater new arrival :D

Hi folks, the seller I got them from is called Caomao1122 on eBay. He doesn't always stock them but when he does they're really cheap. I think £1.50 for 20? Just have to keep and eye on his profile. He's based in China and I have found him on eBay Europe when he had nothing on UK but not having any luck today. Sorry for not being much help.

Looking forward to seeing your take on the Flesh Eaters Death Company and love your Astorath build too :D

Still waiting on these :biggrin.: (he knows what I am talking about:) )

Things are in motion, already have some Vallejo Black Red and Red Violet in the post, building has begun as well. Looking into how to print custom decals too, going to design a few variants based on the primary Chapter livery. I'll be posting them on B&C first when I have something. ^,,,^

What's on your painting desk right now?

Don't worry about 'bossing' someonex....get painting punk lol we have a challenge to complete

Don't worry, all is in hand - I kind of have another done but you will have to wait as I am in work early tomorrow :sad.:

I love that the Flesh Eaters are getting some action. I like them so much, they got a starring role in a short story I wrote. Posting in here rather ruins one of the twists, but nonetheless, enjoy anyway.

Thanks for the comment, I will be sure to read you story when I get a chance man, twist ruined or not! :biggrin.: I have it bookmarked.

That is sounding good already; they have the potential to be such a cool Chapter, great scheme and a bit of FW love. I look forward to it

On my painting desk atm is the Death Company, there are a couple of cheeky updates in Augustus' challenge thread as seen below, hopefully more soon. In the meantime I will leave these here to break up a page of text :smile.: Nothing new if you have ben keeping tabs on that  event.
