That's not Astelan, it's from the Mantle of the Cahmpion, translated into the story as Corswain, Paladin of the Lion.

Astelan's artwork is similar as it's by the same artist.

Looking forward to seeing what comes of this - I suspect some PH style action

Yeah that's an epic introduction.

I will definitely be waiting and watching for more to unfold!

That pic is very cool - chaos-y isn't it though? Or am I jumping at shadows, as it were....? Or is this a fallen angel project and I'm just missing it altogether...

Hello Everyone!

Thank you for all the wonderful comments and I suppose I can officially kick this project log off to a start, with the very first painted model.

Well, in all my years of collecting and being in the hobby, this is the first real time I have sat down and actually made progress doing an army the way I want, in the style I want, using what I want. I have been a Dark Angel enthusiast for close to 12 years, though very on and off in the early days. I have for years sat with a full company of models waiting for a Chapter to be chosen, as I know I wanted to play an Unforgiven chapter, I couldn't for the life of me choose and stick with one. I found such great story threads and hooks in all of them, each a piece to the original Legion puzzle, and each so unique in their own way. I gave some successors a go, but never managed to sink my teeth into them for the length of time needed to become fully motivated to devote an army to.

With the Horus Heresy series, much of that initial spark came back, and I really began to appreciate the Dark Angel's story and characterization amongst all of its peers. The fiercely loyal community, the diverse themes, heraldry, opinions and sordid history make the First Legion stand out.

In this log, I plan to create my version of the 5th Company/Order, led by Company Master Abuther, in the current setting of the 40k universe. In the aftermath of the 13th Black Crusade and amidst the broken and shattered ruins of Caliban, GW left our chapter's story... hopefully something they will advance in the next Dark Angel Codex. In that aftermath, the 5th Order continues the struggle against the enemies within and without. With the Black Templar's Strike Cruiser "The Ophidium Gulf" destroyed and the "Voice of the Emperor" missing, there is very fertile ground for this log to capture. With the inclusion of many of the out of this world heresy era forge world kits, expect lots of older tech, but a nice balance of newer toys as well.

Enjoy a journey full of quotes and pictures from older material, trivia, as well as WIP's and fully done items.

Thanks Stobz! They'll deffinetly have a lot of mude, wear and tear, and weathering. Even the white symobols get grunged up a bit. We'll see if that stays though, or if the contrast of all the dark vs a very stark white sword and wing motiff might be where I go.

And Tengo, I almost shot coffee out of my nose... thanks. :)

Here is a small teaser of what some of the helmed marines will look like (and coincidentally, one of two models I am working on at the moment). Hardly original, but the outline and shape really only scream Dark Angel, rather than any other type of astartes. I am loving these Grey Knight bits.

The Ophidium Gulf Incident was a year before the 13th BC started. The Dark Angels managed to escort him back to the Rock, but his cell was empty when they arrived. I believe its in the White Dwarves that came out around the time of the BT codex release.
