Wulfebane's WIP Projects (Pic Heavy!)

Thanks you two! You both do a lot to support and inspire this community, so it means a lot coming from you.

With the increasing approval for the 'power spear', I thought I'd keep the ball rolling and show a previous chainspear motif I'd worked on. I basically based it off of one of these things.

...and to Mav_girl, don't worry. That blue will get the grey knocked into it once I start painting it.

  • 2 weeks later...

Few things I'm working on alongside my TWC (images hopefully forthcoming later this week).

Needed another GH for my Builder's League and didn't wanna waste the spare GS I mix up, so I usually have a couple side projects to slap it onto. The two ravens will be my more conventional CotS models for my RPs that sport a raven on their shoulder. The GH's right hand is still a wip.

wow. great hand so far. how long does it take you to do something like that? is it hard to get the proportions and amount of GS right?

Took maybe less than an hour. I usually make more than needed, hence the side projects. Proportions usually happen from slapping some GS down and cutting away the excess til it looks right.

I really like your work ;)

Your painting is neat and crisp, and your minis look stylish.

The Storm shield magnet idea is a good one :D

Thanks for all the kind words on the sculpt. I think it came out pretty sweet.

Anyways, thought I'd show some more. I give you... the power spear (still in WIP). I might bust out my unfinished Swiftclaws to demonstrate more extensively these conversions (including a couple with a chainsword blade), but this'll do for now. I intend to add some power cabling, a leather grip, WTN, etc. I'm not about to claim this as an original idea, but I haven't seen it around anywhere, so enjoy.

Also, for anyone curious, K&J Magnets has them small enough to fit on the top of the hand smoothly for trading out stormshields when the points don't allow for them.

I think it is funny how Levitas's Wolves don't get more airtime around the Fang. I really like the dark blue-grey he has come up with and his light use of yellow. I personally really like yellow. but I think his Wolves look good without much of it.

Anyway, here is some of his TWC from 2010: With Chain Glaives.

i am going to be buying some magnets today. what size are those? is K&J a reliable company?

I haven't bought from any other company, though lucked out with K&J and have found them to be very reliable so far. I've ordered from them five times without incident and prompt delivery. Highly recommended.

The magnets in the TWC image are in the "Discs" section. They're the 1/16" dia x 1/32" thick, I believe. They're strong for small bits like the shield (or for the tiny connection points on the dreadnought-mounted stormbolters/heavy flamers - the initial reason I bought them) but I wouldn't recommend them for keeping arms with shoulderpads/weapons attached. I might go with something bigger... either the 1/8" or 1/10" dia. at 1/16" thick.

First time I've ever managed to keep track of how long something takes me. Usually, I bounce from one model to the next. I just needed to see paint on this guy to see if the GS sculpting would match up with the GW sculpt. Still not happy with the tubing on the left wrist joint.

This took 4 hours from priming to now. I'd say he's maybe 1/3rd done?

He's already looking better than my finished models!! *thumbs up*

I'm still unsure on the exact process you are using to do the stubble/beard growth look, but I am loving the way it looks!!

I tend to change up color formulas so they're almost never the same (keeps each GH unique in a way). The most cut and dry colors I would suggest from the Citadel GW line of products would be to mix Dwarf Flesh with Codex Grey in a 1:1 ratio. Then hit it with a soft wash of Ogryn Flesh. I use both GW and P3 products (no Vallejo...yet) so it would get complicated to list every potential combination.

The older, more "grey beard" you want him to look, the more Codex Grey you add and the more diluted your Ogryn Flesh wash... but always always mix in a flesh tone and wash it with the wash.. it not only gives the impression of scalp showing through the stubble, but the wash will help tie it into the exposed flesh of the face without it feeling like such a harsh transition between stubble and skin. (Note - not too apparent on this latest model. Refer to my GH pack leader from pg1.)

hey man!

Just thought i'd drop in and say thanks for the mention! Also made me aware of this most excellent thread ;)

Thanks for all the comments guys!

@Levitas - Very proud to be walking in your footsteps regarding the glaives.

Have a couple pics of my first two tanks...... ever. I left 40k prior to 4th edition and the rise of mech superiority. Since coming back, I've acquired 2 RB/Rhinos, a Vindie, 2 LRs, 2 Drop pods, and 3 Speeders -___- However, with the amount of time I spend on my foot units, you can imagine how daunting I might perceive painting tanks. This Builders League I'm in grants prizes to those with painted (and best painted) minis, so I've been painting everything to (my version of) tabletop standards.

These tanks aren't finished. Still need details and bits, sculpted or otherwise, to make them distinctively "wolfy" despite the paint scheme. Then I'd go back in and grime everything up. But for now, they meet tabletop, so I guess I'll just take a break.

C&C welcome as always!

Ok! Loooong overdue, but I finally got around to finishing my Ragnar conversion.. well, mostly. I'm waiting on tufts of grass from Army Painter, so the base is done minus that. Once I get the grass on it, I'll take a more professional series of pics (backdrop, lighting, etc).

Old WIP thread for him can be seen here: http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/index.p...howtopic=229678

C&C welcome and enjoy!
