oldschoolsavant
Cheers for the basic ideas on loadouts, I'll peruse the books after work the night, do some more research. RADU LYKAN
if its not too late then magnetise all of the plastic cruisers (i'd even bust the weapons of the grand cruiser) to allow for maximum variety from game to game edit - also a not obviously bad/good colour scheme on the grand cruiser would allow you to use it in either fleet? Yodhrin
I could do with a bit of advise on two matters. The first is what fleet to use; I'm putting together multiple lists for BFG and various other systems to represent the forces of my characters over a long period of time, but I'm a bit stuck on my "early war" BFG fleet. I need a way to construct a fleet that includes an Adeptus Mechanicus Cruiser with Archmagos, a Mercury Battlecruiser from the Bakka list(best fit for the new Helios Firedrake model I have on the way, will represent my Rogue Trader's flagship), and a Space Marine vessel. My initial thought was to use the AdMech list with the Mercury as Reserves, but while the AM have the SM escorts they don't get SM crew. The second is; does anyone have advice for actually getting hold of BFG ships? I don't mind getting third-party stuff particularly now there are products popping up which fit well into the BFG aesthetic, but I really like the GW models. I managed to grab a chunk of stuff when they dropped the remaining SG ranges, but I'm missing most of the Battleships and Grand Cruisers for both Imperial and Chaos, I missed out on the Battlebarge, and I have no Xenos at all. I keep browsing ebay and checking trade forums, but on the occasions when stuff I need actually comes up in reasonable condition, the prices are ludicrous - are there actually deals out there if you look hard enough, or should I just resign myself to not having them? oldschoolsavant
Prices aren't too crazy now, Battlebarges used to fetch £100 but they've fallen to around £60 for a decent, complete one. Grand Cruisers seem to have gone the other way, as have AdMech Arks....... Best bet as always is to keep looking, buy midweek and avoid getting sucked in to Sunday inflation...... oldschoolsavant
Okay, more musings..... The SMs are easy: BB 425 SCx2 290 Novax6 300 MoTF (WS) + Cpt 150 Total: 1115 ...IN kind of sorted: Vengeance GC 230 Dictatorx2 440 Lunar 180 Tyrant 185 Dauntlessx2 220 Cobrax5 150 Firestormx3 120 Admiral 100 Total: 1645 ....and the tricky Chaos: Despoiler 400 Repulsive GC 230 Hecate 230 (interesting, but a good choice ? Devastation 190 Slaughterx2 330 (insert two new cruisers here) ? Infidelx3 120 Iconoclastx5 150 Warmaster 100 Current Total: 1850 So, I've two new cruisers that are awaiting fabrication, but I'm struggling with choices. I could split the carriers with one each, maximising lances/batteries with an equivalent cruiser to escort each, certainly fire a Lord onto the Repulsive, and I'd have two fairly even lists. Any thoughts more than welcome, especially with regard to the Hecate, the two cruisers, and anyone with experience of running a dedicated fleet using the 2010FAQ lists; are CSM upgrades viable/necessary etc ? I like the fluff idea of WE crews... Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/248352-new-to-battlefleet-gothic/page/9/#findComment-3895643 Share on other sites
Seahawk
Chaos ships are fairly plentiful on ebay, almost approaching retail prices even! I dunno about the Hecate. It never achieved official/unofficial status and isn't available in any fleet, so I've never bothered with it. MrSocks
Apart from the escorts which seem to be relatively rare everything else is pretty close to what you'd expect to be paying if GW decided they were going to restart the brand. (probably less if we're honest). Which brings me to my question, I've only just started BFG (somewhat late) and was looking at purchasing some escorts in addition to the magnetized cruisers I already had, what is a decent ratio of escorts to other ships? (Both chaos and imperial) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/248352-new-to-battlefleet-gothic/page/9/#findComment-3896553 Share on other sites
DexC
I think that only holds true for the common plastics. If you want an imperial battleship, there is one on eBay at 60 quid with the rest at 75-80. Even GW wouldn't sting you for that much given that a Storm Raven is 50 and about 5-10 times the size. Similarly, something like a strike cruiser or Dauntless will probably be 25 quid, when GW will sell you a land speeder for 18 or a jet bike for 8. MrSocks
I don't know I saw an Emperor class go for £22 recently and a Retribution class for a similar amount, it didn't have a flying base but you can pick them up for next to nothing/already have some spare. Cruisers are going for about £10 for two if they're already built depending on what time of day it is. However if you're looking at the rarer items: Space Marines, Armada era models, Dauntless, yes they're pretty ridiculous! (especially when you think a strike cruiser is only 145 points. It almost makes me weep! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/248352-new-to-battlefleet-gothic/page/9/#findComment-3897019 Share on other sites

DexC
Just had a browse of completed auctions and there have been some bargains on battleships lately actually. I've got 3 imperial battleships, 2 chaos and a battle barge and none of them cost me anywhere near 80 quid. I guess that's the point though. I spent ages on Ebay to acquire those at a reasonable price. If you can watch and wait for the right auction, you'll be good. If you want it now, it's gonna cost you. malika666
Hmm, perhaps we need a thread on BFG proxy models, but in the meantime... Battlegroup Helios: Some amazing resin standins for Imperial cruisers, Vaaish painted up something really nice: pic 1 and 2. Abomination: They've got some nice escort sized ships: Venusian Gunship, Venusian Light Replenishment Oiler, Venusian Trader, Earthican escorts. OKB-14: At the moment sadly enough only on Shapeways. The guy made some amazing Defense Stations and Blast Markers. I wonder when the Legion Fleet will be out... Bits Blitz: my own little project, at the moment also only on Shapeways, with a Light Cruiser, some escorts and other bits. However, I have been working on some other stuff (still need tweaking) which might come out some time next year through a UK based company. :) Armand: Another shop on Shapeways, but he's doing some really amazing things! Basically a giant shop with tons of cool models, like these Chaos stand-ins, Astartes, Arbites, Rogue Traders, and Imperial (Japanese touch). malika666
Erm, I could post a few suggestions, but that's xenos related stuff, which is illegal here. However, you might want to browse through this thread. oldschoolsavant
Wouldn't mind ordering from various Shapeways vendors, but adding the shipping just kills the idea. I'll stick to gambling on eBay, but I'm happy to see pics from others. :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/248352-new-to-battlefleet-gothic/page/9/#findComment-3908584 Share on other sites

malika666
In Europe it ain't that much either, at least in Holland it only costed me a couple of euros and it arrived in a couple of days. oldschoolsavant
Ah, by shipping I'm including the probable customs grab, where the tax is minimal, but the so-called "handling" charges are around £10, so anything up to £20 total. I'd rather spend that securing genuine metal. oldschoolsavant
I'm okay for now, having picked up a Strike Cruiser for the bargin price of £17, inc P&P. Steal !
