Thank you all! biggrin.png

@ Elmo - Command Squad is underway! I've set myself a deadline of finishing them by the 15th of this month, so that I can get going with vow 2.....which will be more terminators! hehe!

@ Captain Semper....Well, I couldn't very well not keep the thread going could I? Not with the amount of minis I still have to paint! msn-wink.gif I had a bit of a dip in morale after the PtR finished, but the ETL II has reinvigorated me! biggrin.png

@ everyone else - thanks for the positive comments, always good for the motivation, especially when the comments come from people who produce great stuff themselves!

The plan is to complete my 1st Company during the ETL II, giving me an army with (hopefully):

Belial

Terminator Librarian

Terminator Chaplain (not yet bought)

5 x Deathwing Knights

Deathwing Command Squad

4 x Terminator Squads (3 already complete, 1 pending)

for a total of around 2000 points......

....after that I'll finish my Ravenwing, which was where the thread started a year ago!

If the 1st Company are seen as the elite of the chapter, then the Evocati are the veterans of the elite. To be selected as an Evocatus is to dedicate yourself to a higher calling, for not only are you responsible for maintaining the sanctity of the chapter's history and reputation, but you are also responsible for bearing chapter relics and for the direct protection of one of its most senior officers.

Vindex Primus Ikkesh

The Vindex Primus is the senior Champion of the Chapter, and is inherently one of its most accomplished combat specialist. Ikkesh has served the Chapter faithfully for almost 150 years, and has held the post of Vindex Primus for the last 8.

http://i548.photobucket.com/albums/ii324/facmanpob/Miniatures/Space%20Marines/1st%20Company/VindexPrimusIkkesh_zpsb30a883d.jpg

Aquilifer Primus Lucian

The Aquilifer has long been the focal point of an army in the field, even back to the time of the Romani and before. Acting as a rallying point and focus for attack, often an army lives and dies by the fate of its battle standard. Lucian is the youngest member of the 1st Company Evocati, barely out of his 80th year of service to the chapter!

http://i548.photobucket.com/albums/ii324/facmanpob/Miniatures/Space%20Marines/1st%20Company/AquiliferPrimusLucian_zps5e6897c1.jpg

Tutori Evocati Uriel and Antores

Uriel and Antores have a long and colourful history in the chapter, having served together in the same scout squad almost 200 years ago. raised to the 1st Company elite in their 25th year of service, having been witness to and partially responsible for the capture of a member of the fallen, they have served with distinction and honour ever since.

http://i548.photobucket.com/albums/ii324/facmanpob/Miniatures/Space%20Marines/1st%20Company/TutoriEvocatiUrielandAntores_zpsc3558555.jpg

Tutor Evocatus Barbatos

If Uriel and Antores are the grizzled old men of the Command Squad, then Barbatos is the phlegmatic and unflappable soul of the group, although Uriel often jokes that it is hard to be anything other than phlegmatic when you carry round a 10,000 year old weapon which could explode at any moment! Barbatos has never deigned to respond to this comment in the 40 years he has wielded the ancient plasma cannon.

Hidden in robes, wielding ancient relics from the time of the Legions, the Knights of the Deathwing are an unstoppable force on the battlefield. The Knights of the Guardians of the Covenant, ever conscious of the ancient ways, are known to their brothers as the Tutori Praetorii, or the Shield of the Guardians. It is from the ranks of the Praetorii that Company Masters are most often chosen.

Tutor Primus Elamiz

The Tutor Primus, or First Guardian, is an honoured position within the chapter. Once this rank is achieved, it is held for life, and the bearer of the Guardian Flail will never relinquish it, save in death. Although on the face of it, achieving this rank prevents the bearer from ever commanding a company, or advancing further, in practice the Tutor Primus is privy to information known only to the most senior members of the Unforgiven, and he commands the 1st Company in the absence of the Master. Elamiz has held this position for over 150 years, being promoted when the previous bearer of the Flail, Tutor Primus Zarobi, fell in combat in the same action that saw Evocati Uriel and Antores earn the rights to join the 1st Company. It was Elamiz, already a member of the 1st Company, picking up the Flail from the dying Zarobi, who struck the blow that rendered the traitor Dark Angel unconscious, allowing his capture by the Interrogators.

Praetorian Phaiar

If there is a 'standard' career path for a member of an Unforgiven chapter, then Phaiar is the Marine who has followed it. Rising through the ranks of the Battle Brothers of 4th Company, he became a squad sergeant in his 75th year of service to the chapter. Showing dash and elan as a sergeant, he was selected for service in the 2nd Company, and commanded a Typhoon speeder squadron to great success in several major engagements. Promoted again, Phaiar served in the 2nd Company Command squad for several years, including a period as Aquilifer Secundus, the 2nd Company's standard bearer. Again showing further command potential in several engagements, Phaiar was given Terminator Honours and inducted into the ranks of the Foederis, the 1st Company. In 20 years of service in the 1st Company, Prefect Chamuel and the senior Chapter staff have marked Phaiar for possible Company Command, and he is widely considered next in line when a command space becomes available.

http://i548.photobucket.com/albums/ii324/facmanpob/Miniatures/Space%20Marines/1st%20Company/TutorPraetoriusPhaiar_zps2b3de16e.jpg

Praetorian Alloces

Alloces is loud and gregarious, an unusual trait in a chapter noted for its almost monasterial ways in most things. His outgoing nature has sometimes put him at loggerheads with his brothers, but none can doubt his prowess with mace and shield.

http://i548.photobucket.com/albums/ii324/facmanpob/Miniatures/Space%20Marines/1st%20Company/TutorPraetoriusAlloces_zpscceed215.jpg

Praetorian Yeshua

Yeshua is a quiet, no nonsense member of the Praetorians. Not as overtly command capable as Phaiar, nor as gregarious as Alloces, Yeshua goes about his business with a solemnity that has earned him great praise from the Reclusiam. It is rumoured that the Interrogator Chaplains have long sought after Yeshua to join their ranks, but he has always politely declined, stating that his service to the chapter comes first. The Chaplaincy is noted for its stubbornness in these matters, and it would not be a surprise if he were inducted in the future.

http://i548.photobucket.com/albums/ii324/facmanpob/Miniatures/Space%20Marines/1st%20Company/TutorPraetoriusYeshua_zps262cc546.jpg

Praetorian Furmiel

The final member of the Praetorians is Furmiel. Young, by the standards of the Knights, being not yet past the century in years of service to the chapter, he, like Phaiar, has been earmarked for senior command. Solid and dependable, his unflashy manner has in the past made him ideal for commanding armoured detachments in the field, and it is likely that he will be given a command position within the Ironwing (the group of marines that sit outside the normal company structure and take command of armoured detachments in major engagements) in the not too distant future.

This is so great! Love the little bios for each member... and the details like the metal seals on Furmiel's shield... Is the lettering on Elamiz' shield free hand? :o

It's a great pleasure every time I take a look here facmanpob... fantastic work...

Many thanks, its the positive comments that keeps the motivation up! smile.png

Glad you like the metal seals, I thought I'd do them a little differently on the DWK to set them apart. I cheated with the lettering, its with a fine ink pen, matt varnished and then weathered....I still find it hard to write that small even with a pen!

Thanks guys, very kind of you smile.png

So, on to Vow 2 of the ETL II (no rest....). I had a set of Dark Vengeance terminators that I got from ebay, bought deliberately to allow me to do some conversions using extra bits from the DW Command Squad box. Amazing as it may seem, with the addition of some DV termies, some extra torso backs, Grey Knight heads and terminator legs from ebay for a combined total of about £20, I will have build 15 individual terminators using the DW command squad box.....15 Dark Angel terminators for £50....pretty decent I think!

http://i548.photobucket.com/albums/ii324/facmanpob/Miniatures/works%20in%20progress/vow2_zps28d14ef3.jpg

Anyway, I'm converting the DV 'twins' into a termy with LCs and CML, and TH/SS, Assault cannon guy is getting a storm bolter, and the sergeant is getting the left-handed storm bolter and right-handed sword from the DWCS box....built them last night, assuming that a ) the weather holds and b ) so does the greenstuff on the left hand of the sergeant msn-wink.gif , I will spray them tonight and get on with painting them..... the plan is to finish them before the end of the month, and move back over to the bikes for Vow 3.

  • 2 weeks later...

Quick update and request for advice:

Firstly, Vow 2 is complete (5 man DWT squad.....only have one quick and nasty photo from my phone at the moment for the ETL completion post......planning to take a load of photos of the entire 1st company soon, so will post photos then).

Secondly, Vow 3 is underway (Libby on bike and 3-man RAS).

Thirdly, Vow 4 is in planning (5 man RWCS)

Which brings me on to my question. As you can see from the picture below that I painted last year, my bikes don't have the wing fairing on the back. This is something I have been saving for the Command Squad. The question is, what colour should I paint the wing? I'm planning to paint the Black Knight bikes the same colour as my other bikes, so that they gel with the rest of the army, but I'm really not sure on the wing. I've thought about green, to tie it in with the Deathwing Knights (see posts above). I've also thought about white, to tie it in with the DA 2nd Company....but I'm not sure....

Any ideas welcome smile.png

I've never been a fan of the straight up and down wings, so that's why I never put them on the normal bikes (and still don't intend to), but that's 2 votes for the DWK gold wings on the shields..... smile.png

And, time for another question........Vallejo 35ml Black Wash.....any good? Similar to the old Badab Black? Nuln Oil is OK, but the new citadel shades flow more than the old washes, and sometimes I long for that old-style 'clinginess' you got from the washes.....

The Librarius of a Space Marine Chapter is normally known for standing apart. In fact, the origin of the blue armour Librarians wear is to make them more visible on the battlefield, to ensure that they are not falling prey to the terrors of the warp. The Chronicler Librarians of the GotC stand closer to their brothers than in many other chapters, and Zianor is closest of all within the Chapter. Serving 2nd Company faithfully for over eighty years, he has become a de facto member of the Company, rather than a marine seconded from the Librarius. This status is demonstrated by the ornamentation displayed on his mount, prepared for him by the battle brothers of 2nd Company during his 50th year of service in the Company.
