Apologies for the poor quality photos, I left my camera in work so these are from the phone! It's annoying, because you can't see any of the weathering or detail work! :) Oh, well, I'll have to do some better photos next week.

Anyway, Interrogator Chaplain Orfiel, on secondment to the 2nd Company, is complete. Vow 2 complete! ^_^

facmanpob:

As usual, I have nothing but praise for these Guardians of yours. It's very fitting for Orfiel to be rolling over a pile of skulls; he looks like he'll be creating new ones very soon. His face highlights look great.

In the first photo, what is the gray above the exhaust near the seat?

Thanks very much.......Actually, the grey bit is a really weird reflection, that I only just noticed when you pointed it out!

I thought the skulls (which are from the Warhammer basing kit) were appropriate for a Chaplain! :)

On with the show........

Vow 3

I, Facmanpob, answer the challenge of the Unforgiven and vow to complete Ravenwing Attack Squadron from Codex: Dark Angels of total value 205 points on or before August 15. Success will bring eternal glory to the Guardians of the Covenant Chapter of the 1st Legion and failure will doom me to bear the sign of damnation until the year-end.

The squadron will consist of Sergeant with power sword, 2 melta bikers, 1 multi-melta attack bike

photo will be here tonight :)

[Edit - and here it is!]

Just checking in with the captain ;) although it's gone a bit quiet on the photo front I am still beavering away at the coal face. The bikes for vow 3 are coming along nicely, and the riders are being prepped for painting. The missus is out on the town tomorrow and Wednesday, which gives me some quality time with the brushes to get really stuck in. ^_^
  • 4 weeks later...

....and, with a couple of days to go, Vow 3 is complete.....

just a quick photo at the moment, I'll take some better ones later in the week! :)

That's exacrtly what I thought! RW is very popular in the ETL! And people do produce very unique takes on then - facmanpob's style is awesome - some of the most interesting GotC I've seen! And this Chapter has the potential of being very bland... Well done mate - any chance for a group photo?

Thanks guys :) Hmmm group phot......well my RW so far consists of a Chaplain, 9 bikes, 3 attack bikes and a speeder....I'll see what I can do ;)

Over the coming months I've still got to paint 2 more speeders, another AB and 3 more bikes....oh and Sammael on his jetbike!

  • 1 month later...

Can't believe its August since I last posted....work has subsumed my life since then (I've only actually had 1 day's leave since the second week of June!) and whatever hasn't been taken up by work has been taken up with family. However, I have still managed to squeeze in some painting here and there, and a couple of games under 6th Ed.

I've started on the Dark Vengeance minis, finishing 8 cultists and 4 Temies.....here is a wip photo (not great quality) from about a week ago, and have been tidying up some of my other models. (And before anyone mentions it - I know I haven't drilled the storm bolters out yet!) :D

http://i548.photobucket.com/albums/ii324/facmanpob/Miniatures/works%20in%20progress/DV_Termie_wip.jpg

If the light is decent on Saturday morning I'm going to try to do a group photo of my Ravenwing stuff and the finished DV terminators for the sake of completeness :P

Oh, and its not all bad, I've got 2 weeks holiday booked from the 22nd of the month and I'm taking the family off to find a sunny beach where no one from work can phone or email me!

Thanks Isiah.

Some group photos of the Chapter so far......

First off, here are 1st Company. Note that the Dark Vengeance models are in the new and improved colour scheme and the minis behind are in the old 2011 colours......and will need repainting at some point :( Eagle eyed viewers will note that there is one of the DV termies missing - he is still on the painting table!

Next is 2nd Company, who pioneered the new 2012 paint scheme for the ETL compaetition

and finally, 3rd Company (4 Tactical Squads, Devastators and Assault Squad), joined by the Chapter command staff and Company Veterans at the front (again these are in 2011 scheme, so some repainting will be required in the future!)

Stuff still left to do includes:

3 x Dark Vengeance bikes + 3 other bikes + Landspeeder to make another full RW Attack Squadron with the spare AB seen in the photos above

Sammael on jetbike (currently in progress)

Sammael in Speeder (in box)

the rest of the Dark Vengeance DA miniatures (on sprues)

Venerable Dreadnought (in box)

5 x Assault terminators to round out 1st company to 20 terminators (in box)

maybe some Cataphracti Terminators as a Command Squad, or maybe a 4th Dreadnought (but this time a FW Comtemptor Mortis!)

Alongside these I've got the start of a Chaos Army to paint with the DV miniatures, and the rest of a 2000 point Ork army to finish! :D

facmanpob, the army is looking great! I really, really like the new paint scheme, the "iron" plus deep, deep red looks fantastic together. Diggin' the feathered crests on the chain fist and terminator sergeant a lot, very nicely done, but can't really see the sergeant's sword blade that well. Also, drill them barrels! :D

I understand how you feel on the repainting an army issue, done that a couple of times now due to "refinements" of my paint scheme, so I feel your pain. However, you are pulling it all off to a fantastic level, so it will be worth the effort! Smashing job, keep it up!

BTW, really dig the fire-support Dread hanging out behind the 1st Company!

This is tremendous work facmanpob! just awesome!!! This is a truly individualistic take on the GotC -your skill with the red, especially on the bikes, is just so unique!

On the re-painitng issue, I wouldn't be so rush... I say keep them - it's just so nice that the army reflects your takes on the Chapter through the years... It's also a statement to have the AoBR Termies painted in one style and the DV Termies in an another! Maybe it's just me, but I like them like that. :D

Truly beutiful force there...

To everyone who has posted positive comments, a really humble thank you. :D

I've only been painting minis since January 2011 (after a brief dabble in about 2004), and I can see a significant improvement when I look back to photos of the first minis I painted early last year. But the simple fact is that its peer review and constructive criticism which lets you know how you are progressing and gives the impetus to continue improving, and I can truly say that the support and help on offer in the DA subforum is second to none.

So once again, my sincere thanks :)

In answer to Stobz and Brother Degas, the Contemptor would definitely get my vote too, apart from one thing......I haven't actually bought it yet! So my plan is to finish off the DV terminators (4 now completed and the 5th is on the paint table) and get the DV Chaos cultists done as well (8 finished, 6 more on the way). After that (and after coming back from holiday), I plan to do the Dark Vengeance Interrogator Chaplain and Librarian in November, and continue making progress on Sammael's jetbike. I'm thinking of putting the Contemptor Mortis down on the list for Santa....not sure how much of a raised eyebrow I would get from my wife though! ;)

No painting tonight, but I did do a bit of converting. Two of the DV terminators are the same, so I thought that would be a bit naff to just paint them up the same. I've got a box of Assault Terminators awaiting paint, and as you get 5 pairs of LCs and 5 TH/SS there's obviously spares to go round. So, here is the painted vanilla DV terminator with his Lightning Claw converted brother

Agreed! and also to add some c/c ability to the otherwise "shooty" DV Termies... Not to mention that now you have a spare studded bower fist to use on a differently posed Termie! Awesome :D
Nice easy way to convert one of the 'twins'.

Cheers

I

I'm a big fan of easy conversions! :P

Having worked a bit more on my cultists last night, I suddenly realised that I'd somehow made loads of progress on the Dark Vengeance Limited Edition Interrogator Chaplain.....I'd been spending 5 minutes on it here and there over the past couple of weeks while it was still on the sprue. Anyway, I realised I'd made enough progress that I could start building and basing it and decided to do a couple of wip shots.

I haven't started on any of the highlighting yet, I've just really darkened down the armour and done the robes. I based the colour scheme on lines from The Lion and Unforgiven in which a Librarian was described as wearing blue robes (not having blue armour) and a Chaplain described with black robes (not black armour). So I thought that my Chaplain should have the same armour scheme as the rest of the Chapter, but with Black robes to identify his station.

Btw, no chaos black was harmed in the creation of these robes! :P

Still loads to do, but he's coming along nicely so far I think.
