The Eagles Spire - Semper Fidelis Eagles Eternal

Recommended Posts

The model is looking nice, good work so far.

I'd love to see a tacked-together mock up, or even a concept drawing of the piece to sort of know which direction you're headed with it.

As requested, here are two pictures of the direction im heading. this is a count as predo (yes i know a sword is not a power fist, but ill write some fluff as to why it strikes last or something) the right hand will have a storm bolter, but im thinking about converting it from a combi melta, and changing the melta barrel into a second bolter barrel, then adding a storm bolter drum to the bottem. thoughts?

i also plan on adding a few more things here and there, perhaps a scabard, some grenades and a marksmanship badge. i have no idea what to do for the other shoulder pad. and i am open for suggestion.

here is somthing ive been imagining for the iron halo, how do you think this looks?

it still needs some clean up, but as of right now im not sure if i even want to keep it.

i got a little bit of work done this weekend, and i decided to scrap the idea of having the iron halo on his head. i like this much better. progress was slow this weekend, but i think thats in part because i spent alot of time trying to figure out what i was going to do for the storm bolter. im quite happy with how its turning out so far, but i think i can put a little more detail on it. the gauntlet is about half way finished aswell. i would have finished the right arm if the bolter didnt break off when i put the Green Stuff on it.

Where did you get that eagle backpack

GW SM Captain set.

War Angel: You've got a nice set of sculpting skills there mate :tu: Looking forward to seeing the Captain finished and seeing more! Oh and I really like that Strom Bolter, looks like a nice ol' relic!

And the laurels do look better than the Iron Halo :tu:

I like the model so far- although if he's a captain, I'd suggest maybe something a little more grand for his power weapon (BA Honor Guard perhaps?)...

The laurels around the helmet look alright, as these can be tricky. I've finally found a method that works for me (after about 20 attempts), as I'm giving the laurels to every member of my Sternguard squad at the moment.

Still, I look forward to seeing where you're headed with the model... have you considered basing yet? 25mm? 40mm?

Brother Ludovic, thanks for the complement, im looking forword to seeing him finished and delivering more. i like the bolter too, i wasnt sure how it was going to turn out, but im liking it so far. and for the laurels, not only do they look better, but the first few attempts to figure out how to make it look was great fun. its always interesting to learn a new way to make something.

DA, it's funny, because i was on the fence about making a scabbard, so this helps me in that choice. though i'll admit i was thinking right side (i really should have made his sword in his right hand)

im not sure i understand about the Seals. are you saying to replace the one i put on his left shoulderplate? or new ones for the right shoulder?

thanks for the comments, ill try to give an update tomorrow or sunday, though it may not be as much as i would hope.

Badaab, I've not decided upon a basing yet. i wasnt sure what would be good both model wise and gaming wise. , he's actualy the chapter master, so i was trying to make the weapon grand like you said, but im limited in what bits i have and have no means of getting more. im currently GS'ing the sides of it and making it into more of a saber look. ill probably try and put some form of inscription in it? any suggestions? i had tryed to think up some way to give it a pommel that looked like eagle wings and then the head of an eagle at the hilt, but i couldnt draw anything that i liked.

thanks again for the comment, and im sorry i missed you earlyer

As for a scabard, I would look to the Ultramarines honor guard or perhaps some of the older captain models... something simple that gets the point across without detracting from the model.

Basing wise, I think he'd look nice ascending a piece of rock outcrop, or perhaps a piece of metal (Rhino door?). This will give him a bit more height without making the actual model larger.

If you have access to some from the Space Wolves sprue (the OOP one, I believe), maybe blu-tac one in place opposite the scabard and see how it looks before gluing in place. As for building a scabard- had you considered just using styrene and bulking it up a little?

With how the legs are positioned, you'll likely have to put the scabard on the side. I would balance this with a hip holster on the opposite side. As for more details on the front of the belt- perhaps Terminator Honors?

thanks for the suggestions, im going to try that at some point. my equipment is limited, im a few months from home and only have a few GW boxes and some green stuff. which is why ive been making things like that. but i have a scabbard now, i think it turrned out great.

thanks again.

alright, i got a good bit of work in, and i feel its time i stop having free time and get back to real work. so heres this weeks update. its mostly the sword and the bolter, but i also did some clean up, and made a scabbard for the sword.

heres the scabbard

and a terminator crux that i added to some scrolls, i plan on putting these on his left shoulder, which ive decided to move the original (with the chapter badge) to the right shoulder.

i have figured out what im doing with the second shoulder pad

http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn74/Lastdogdead/020-Copy.jpg

now im trying to figure out what im going to do with his Scabbard, ive got three possible positions

tight and close to his leg

http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn74/Lastdogdead/024-Copy.jpg

away from his leg, trailing behind slightly

http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn74/Lastdogdead/021-Copy2.jpg

And finaly, tossed back behind him more, To stay out of his way in combat

http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn74/Lastdogdead/027-Copy.jpg

and i do have a second angle from the side on these if any one wants to see that. the next update i do with him should be the last for him untill i put paint to him, then ill write a little something about him. im currently trying to figure out how to make a marksmanship honour's for him to wear. but with my current supplys its hard to get what i want. ive started work on a tactical squad, and should have something worth presenting for them in a week or two.

thanks for any Suggestions or comments.

thats good, i like that postition best myself. all ive got to do now is glue it on and sclupt some sort of harness type, belt thing to hold it in place as opposed to it just "Being" there for no reason.

in other news, progress has started on a squad of tacticals that ive had some random insperation for customization. nothing quite as egstravagant as my chapter master, but it should make the models stand out a little, and that i think is the most important thing for the normal line gunners.
