Brother Christopher
Wow, your dread looks amazing! I really like the ETL badge on his leg, that was a very nice touch. One thing...with all his long range firepower, I would have thought that you'd call him "Legolas". Nah, it has to be boromir-- he needs the venerable reroll so he doesn't get snuffed a second time. I don't think even the venerable reroll can save Initiate Bean from his fated demise. It would actually be pretty cool if he died in every game. True, true! Re-rolls won't save him. But putting his life essence into a 3 metre robot might :D And thank you everybody for the amazing feedback! HLVW
Everything about this dread is awesome. Your free hand is quite impressive, And I will say that initiate Bean did survive in Ronan he just got fired and in mirror mirror, but we just won't talk about that one n Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/254966-the-neurode-crusade/page/11/#findComment-3723137 Share on other sites
Brother Christopher
A quick, rough update. First, quick and messy highlight on the jump packs! 1st vow completion progress: 95%! Just one more highlight, clean-up, purity seals and assembly... and that's all. And I can finally paint my Marshal! http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k260/krj_38/ETL/P1070791_zps962b75a6.jpg http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k260/krj_38/ETL/P1070792_zps6795f144.jpg And the damaged, miscast jump pack in comparison to a regular one. http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k260/krj_38/ETL/P1070794_zps5c68e8b7.jpg http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k260/krj_38/ETL/P1070793_zpse2c1a123.jpg HLVW and greggles 2 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/254966-the-neurode-crusade/page/11/#findComment-3723518 Share on other sites

Brother Christopher
Okay! First vow painted. I'll assemble the assault initiates first thing tomorrow, declare the vow completed and get off to my second vow: Marshal Arthur and Techmarine Heniek. http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k260/krj_38/ETL/P1070797_zps2c80467d.jpg http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k260/krj_38/ETL/P1070796_zpsf0898d87.jpg http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k260/krj_38/ETL/P1070795_zpsa6fab114.jpg Marshal Mattias 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/254966-the-neurode-crusade/page/11/#findComment-3724074 Share on other sites
Brother Christopher
Finally, after a pretty rough real-life time and challenging painting period, I finished the first vow. http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k260/krj_38/ETL/P1070801_zpscc372ec1.jpg And without hesitation further pledged to complete two more units. My contribution is small, a mere 360 points, however this is all I can do right now. I cannot wait to get my Marshal painted!! http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k260/krj_38/ETL/P1070802_zps37d60e77.jpg HLVW, SnorriSnorrison and Golf33 3 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/254966-the-neurode-crusade/page/11/#findComment-3724409 Share on other sites
HLVW
Everything about these guys are awesome, the dynamic poses and the vibrant yet deep colours. congrats on completing your vow. What reds did you use to achieve that nice vibrant colour? Brother Christopher
Blood Red, only. I add some blacks/yellows to get other shades. For the shoulder pad trims, I basically add a couple of layers of blood red and then add a layer of blood red+chaos black in the middle. Brother Christopher
I thought I could try and make my Marshal's cape somewhat more special. So, I gave a new kind of freehand a try. I must say that the first version I made was better than the final: but I decided to improve on it, adding a layer of different colour. Still, I don't care, as it's just my first try at something like this and it won't be too visible either way: most of the inner side of the cape will be obscured. An hour's work and a new experience. From this: http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k260/krj_38/ETL/cape_zpscd0eb836.jpg to this: http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k260/krj_38/ETL/cape2_zps3dab60ad.jpg For the rear of the cape, I'm thinking a templar cross in a circle and some heraldry: Neurode and Dol Amroth badges. I'm still pondering over the colour, it's going to be either black (as the High Marshal's) or "standard" bleached bone, like 95% of my other capes. So I'll give myself some more time to think about the colour, and do the metallics now. The armour will be black, but I'm considering doing gold highlights to show that it is more special. Fluffwise, I'm thinking about something like this: the armour is a combination of various relic parts whose lineage can be traced back to the Armour Indomitus. EDIT / UPDATE: http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k260/krj_38/ETL/P1070805_zps8d1beada.jpg What do you think? I wanted to add more detail there, such as crusade badges, but now I think it suffices. Anything more would be too much, wouldn't it? Brother Christopher
Legs are mostly done. Here's the effect: http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k260/krj_38/ETL/P1070819_zps1bb4ce47.jpg http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k260/krj_38/ETL/P1070820_zpsb1bc1a33.jpg At first I wanted to make him a tabard. Then, a shorter tabard (the one with purity seals, a kind which can be found in the SM commander box). But then... I changed my mind again: why make the already barely visible freehand on the lining of the cloak even less visible? And the armour is fancy, with the big "belt buckle" piece... But now I'm thinking about adding some BT bling, such as this: http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k260/krj_38/ETL/P1070817_zps071623a2.jpg It fits perfectly and... I think I'll go with it, instead of the tabard or nothing at all. Moreover, I forgot to fit a lantern... an iconic bit for any BT character. But I figure that now it's too late for that. There's no place for it at the front. At the back (like hanging from the backpack/laying on the cloak) it covers up the free hand and gives a cramped impression. I'm still thinking about it, but in the end there'll be no lantern ( :( ) as I don't want to 'overdo' my Marshal. SCOTT_FRANCIS
I agree, the work on the tabard will be hard to see any way, leave it as visible as possible. Marshal Mattias
Having seen all the components so far, and the fabulous freehand work, I would agree that in this case, less is more - he is going to look excellent and adding too much more will only detract from the wonderful detail you have already achieved.
