Solo Crusade Competition

Solo Crusade Description

I had this idea a while back, for a community competition where we would each design a character, (from codex BT of course) and put him through various challenges that would test his mettle against a wide variety of opponents. With the advent of sixth edition, the exact way we design our characters becomes even more paramount, so this event can be constructive as well as competitive. Characters that complete the various battle challenges will receive victory points. New challenges will be posted every week and after six weeks there will be a winner (Although unfortunately I can't give any prizes other than the knowledge that your character is the most powerful and versatile of the bunch. If anyone with techno skills wants to help out by creating banners (similar to the LPC ones) for the winner and the participants, than feel free to PM me). Before I commit myself though, I want to see if there will be enough interest to make it worthwhile. So, read the rules, and if you like the idea and want to participate than go ahead and post your character profile, if I can get five or more participants than I will start up the first challenges. Anyone who wants to join after the start can feel free, although if you join late in the competition you will be at a slight disadvantage. If you have any comments, complaints, or suggestions about the rules than please post those as well.

Solo Crusade Rules:

Character Creation:

Each participant will chose one HQ choice from Codex: Black Templar. Unique characters may not be used. Command squads and cenobyte servitors may not be used; remember this is a solo crusade. There is no point limit, but armory access is limited depending on which HQ choice you use. I will update the first post with each character's profile.

Armory Limit:

Castellans can chose no more than six items from the armory. Marshals have a maximum of five. Reclusarchs can have up to four, and Masters of Sanctity only get three. The EC obviously gets none.

Painting Bonus:

Anyone who posts a WYSIWYG pic of their solo crusader will receive one free victory point. In the last week of the competition I will create a separate thread where people can vote for the best painted crusader. The winner will receive an additional free victory point.

Challenges:

Three challenges will be posted each week. I will throw everything under the sun at you so be prepared. Every time you win a challenge you will get one victory point. You can do all of the challenges, some of them, or none of them in any given week. You can go back and do a previous week's challenges, provided you have not attempted them already. Each challenge can be attempted only once (Of course, there is no way for me to police you, so I will operate under the assumption that a honorable Black Templar will not cheat). Once you complete a challenge, I would like you to post a short battle report of the challenge, but if you are too busy to do so than it is not necessary. Ideally the opposing force would be played by another person with the models specified by the challenge, but if you have to proxy and/or play against yourself than that is not a problem. If neither you nor anyone you know has the codex necessary to play a specific opponent, than you will just have to miss out on that particular challenge. I will avoid using sisters as an opponent because their codex is hard to find. Unless otherwise noted, all challenges will follow all the rules in the Warhammer 40,000 rulebook, codexes, official FAQs, and additionally the unofficial BT FAQ that can be found at the top of this forum.

Standard Challenge Scenario:

Unless otherwise noted, all challenges follow the following rules. The battlefield is a 24” square with no terrain. The BT character and his opponents set up on opposite sides of the board, with all bases touching the board edge. The BT player gets the first turn. The game lasts until all the models on one side have either been destroyed or have fallen back off the board.

Winning the Solo Crusade:

At the end of six weeks the character with the most victory points will be declared the Winner of the Solo Crusade. If there is a tie, than a special challenge will be used to break the tie.

Nice to see we got some interest going! So, to answer your questions:

Urkh: The challenge could be almost anything, from a horde of 10 orks to a single SM librarian. There may also be a few vehicles and MCs scattered around, but I'll be keeping those to a minimum. Also, the challenges in the later parts of the competition will be a bit harder than the ones in the beginning.

ItchyTasty: The armory limit is for anything you get at the armory (so yes weapons and wargear).

Mike Zulu: Yes, you will have to stick to a single armory loadout, so chose your weapons and equipment carefully.

Since we seem to have met the required five participants, I will schedule posting the first three challenges for this Sunday night. In the mean time, you should figure out how to best equip your chosen character, and be sure to post his loadout before starting the challenges (Note: you do not have to post it before Sunday, just before you start playing the challenges). As I said before, anyone who wants to join after the start is welcome to do so. Good luck everybody!

i'm in. i have a new character i just built. gonna be:

castellan->

combi-melta

termy honors

power fist

iron halo

melta boms

arty armor

it cool if i expand the 5 player participants?

EDIT: also, would you like our batreps in this thread or could we put them in our personal crusade threads? thanks crimsonlancer~

Sounds fun! This will give me a chance to finish out my recently acquired jump chappy (even though I should be working on my failed vow ;) i just might work on it too!)

I'm leaning towards a Reclusiarch: crozius (power maul), plas pistol (for that ever so important AP2 and added CC attack), jump pack (mobility and HoW), arty armour (a little more survivability), melta bombs (need something for vehs and MCs).

Gonna have to surf the web for codexes, but I will make my best effort to compete in this challenge.

WIP pics will follow...I just added the PP from the 25th anniv CF model and primed him black. Think I might look for a more ornate jump pack before I throw on a standard version.

Really looking forward to it!

Edit: Gotta give this man a name! It shall be "Chaplain Reclusiarch Laertes".

This actually does seem interesting count me in as well.

I will have to proxy alot of stuff as I only have a few other races, necrons orks and chaos but i got enough to proxy other races.

Just so I understand this correctly we can build according to your rules and whats in the codex?

I'm pleasantly surprised at the number of people who want to join. This is going to be great

To answer your questions,

@ItchyTasty: We follow all the rules in the codex, so yes only two weapons.

@Emperor's Champion Lyon: The EC does get a vow, I think AAC would be most appropriate for this but you can use what you want.

@Castellan Alaric: You can either post the batreps in this thread, or post a link to the page of your crusade thread that has the report. To answer your PM, the model in your thread looks fine, just make sure to post it here when you're finished to get the bonus point.

@Tolek: Yes, just follow the rules in the codex and the ones in the first post.

Later tonight I'll update the first post with the participants who have already posted their character profiles.

Challenge? CHALLENGE!?! I accept ANY challenge no matter the odds!!!! :D

Marshal Corbett of the Heavy Metal Crusade personally accepts this challenge!

His gear:

-Power fist

-Storm Shield

-Bike(of doom)

-Artificer armour

-Terminator Honours

Let none find him wanting!

First post updated with the contestants who posted their solo crusaders. So far we are seeing a strong preference towards Marshals, but overall a wide variety of equipment. It will be interesting to see who does the best when the challenges go up.

EDIT: ItchyTasty, I have good news and I have bad news. The good news is, you are now in first place thanks to your superbly painted Marshal. The bad news is, I just checked the codex and krak grenades do not have the little "T" next to them that would allow them to be taken by a model in TDA. So, your current set-up is illegal. :D

For now I will remove the kraks from your profile and wait on your reply as to what you want as replacement. If you want to re-shuffle the other equipment so that you can fit a ranged weapon in there, than let me know and I'll edit the official profile.

Normally I would do what most people are doing and go with a Marshall or Reclusiarch, but since I just painted him up the other day I feel like it's fitting I pledge my EC with the Vow "Suffer not the Unclean to Live." (Pic will be up in just a bit)

[Edit]

gallery_66861_7373_26842.jpg

Emperor's Champion Vires, renewing his vow "To Suffer not the Unclean to Live."

oh btw, my characters name is Castellan Krae. :D

EDIT: my castellan is about 80% done but i'm going on vacation here for the next week so no painting will be done lol i'm bringing my models though so i'll do the challenges when they come up if i have time!

My entry will be:

Master of Sanctity Ehud

In addition to his standard crozius, rosarius, and crusader seals, I am adding the following three items:

- Terminator armor

- Storm Shield

- Storm Bolter

Note: Edited for legal weapon loadout

Cheers,
