Taranis
Good report. Very easy to follow. Thanks for sharing. Sounds like warlord traits could be game changing, especially for us when we get a new codex eventually. :) Too bad it was not a happy ending. :) Jolemai 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/262966-jolemais-blog-of-wips-battle-reports-and-musings/page/2/#findComment-3449540 Share on other sites
Jolemai
Hopefully I've have some WIPs up this weekend...Better late than never I suppose Forgot to take a picture of the interior before gluing... This is at the "battle ready" phase. Eventually it will get some more thin coats of Blood Red, shading and highlighting. I will also likely darken the metal as it's come out a tad brighter than I would have liked. (Before you ask Taranis, it was finished before RtS was created ) Interior is still to do, I'll probably go for the bone approach that that Stormraven has. Fortunately it still comes apart Edited September 23, 2013 by Jolemai Memento Of Prospero 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/262966-jolemais-blog-of-wips-battle-reports-and-musings/page/2/#findComment-3472204 Share on other sites

Jolemai
First things first, I really do apologies for the "gaming board" and the scenery, but you do what you can! Also for the quality of the photos, but I'll try better with those next time. Notes on the battle: ~ Forgot to use Corbulo's re-roll again and I could have saved the Stormraven with it. Still, at least it got me to hold up the Chaos Lord for an extra turn but still... ~ Not getting much mileage out of the second spell on my Librarian. I adore Shield of Snaguinius but with MSUs it is difficult to get a suitable second option. Thoughts? ~ Really need to learn how to use my podding Dreadnought better. Probably should have gone for the CSM squad with the Sorcerer in order to stop Puppetmaster... Mysterious objectives are being used, as are mysterious woods. BA deploy behind the ruin with the two Razorbacks and the JDC just behind them. The Librarian rides with the RAS. The Attack Bikes are hiding behind a small piece of terrain the south of the tanks and the DCD is in reserve with the Drop Pod. http://tbheq2.org/fs.php?id=6bfaa31b8325ba7855e31ab38d46d393 The Eldar deploy a line running north to south of WS1 (containing DA1), WS2 (containing DA2) and the Wraithknight, with the Guardians just in front and a little off centre. No Blood Angel suffers from the Red Thirst this game and the Night Fighting rules are not in play. With the roll for Seize the Initiative declined, Blood Angels are to go first. Turn one BA ~ The Drop Pod lands in the centre of the board to give some cover and the DCD moves behind the large terrain piece. The Tanks, JDC and the bikes advance on the enemy using the Drop Pod for extra cover ~ Everything opens up on the Rangers and as the smoke clears only three have perished. The bikes Turbo Boost up the hill to get into range. Eldar ~ The Wraithknight advances to the south of the LoS terrain along with the Guardians. WS1 and WS2 strafe north to get into decent firing positions. This triggers the one point objective but it is nothing of note. ~ Shield of Sanguinius works. Both Wave Serpents open up on the tanks and do no damage. Only the Wraithknight can do something of note this turn and takes a wound off the lead Attack Bike. BA: 0-0 :Eldar http://tbheq2.org/fs.php?id=45a5ddadc7dd4ffd6e013e123aef27c1 Turn Two BA ~ The DCD advances on the Guardians while the tanks, JDC and the bikes head towards the Pod. ~ The Plaserback shoots WS1 but causes no damage while the rest of the army tries again to remove the Rangers who, after having Gone to Ground, lose only one of their number. ~ The DCD fails its charge on the Guardians by 1”. Eldar ~ No Autarch this turn. The Wraithknight again advances while the Guardians retreat toward their board edge and away from the encroaching DCD. Again WS1 strafes while WS2 advances on the BA armour. ~ Shield of Sanguinius again works and the Guardians move onto their board edge. Both Attack Bikes die to the fire of WS1 for 2 VP (First Blood, Fast Attack) while WS2 explodes the Plaserback causing one fatality to the JDC and one to the RAS passengers. Their pinning test it passed. The Wraithknight then opens up on the RAS killing them all and wounding the Librarian once. BA: 0-2 :Eldar http://tbheq2.org/fs.php?id=0de2164cfc4fc5b0dbeaeb490bb77343 Turn Three BA ~ The DCD moves around the LoS terrain towards the Rangers and Eldar tanks while the JDC also advance towards them. The Librarian gets into cover. The Bolterback also advances. ~ The Rangers again Go to Ground and only lose one of their number. The DCD pops smoke and the Bolterback kills three Guardians who turn tail and flee off the board. ~ The DCD again fails its charge, this time of the Rangers but the JDC manage and annihilate them. Eldar ~ The Autarch deepstrikes in behind the Librarian. DA2 disembark from WS2 into cover. DA1 disembark from WS1 into a nearby wood which turns out to be a Ironbark Forest (3+ cover save). The Wraithknight moves close to the two point objective which is booby trapped. ~ Shield of Sanguinius is successfully cast. Two HPs are removed from the Bolterback and it is Shaken for the next turn. DA2 kill three from JDC and WS2 finishes the job, while the Wraithknight knocks a HP off the DCD. The Autarch misses. ~ The Autarch moves away 9” while the Wraithknight charges the DCD. The impact knocks off another HP before it is wrecked with regular attacks. BA: 0-2: Eldar http://tbheq2.org/fs.php?id=227fe30862d1c788848ae3ccf8ea57aa Turn Four BA ~ Everything remaining again advances (Linebreaker is active) while Astorath moves towards the Autarch. ~ Astorath knocks a wound off the Autarch and combined bolt fire kills two from DA1. The Librarian then casts Fear of the Darkness causing them to flee 9” towards their board edge. ~ Astorath charges the Autarch and defeats him to claim a secondary objective (Slay the Warlord). Eldar ~ DA1 fail to regroup and flee from the battlefield. The Wraithknight moves slightly away from Astorath to get a better firing position. ~ Shield of Sanguinius again works but the Wraithknight scores a wound on Asotrath. The Bolterback is wrecked by WS1 and the Librarian Goes to Ground. ~ The Wraithknight charges Asotrath and squishes him for Slay the Warlord. BA: 2-3 :Eldar http://tbheq2.org/fs.php?id=36f8cd566cc0ad7f874afeac6f3a3a78 Turn Five BA ~ With only the FDC and a Drop Pod remaining, and seeing that the Eldar can easily claim any objective, the Blood Angels concede the game. I want to treat myself), so I've created an 1850 Death Company list in order to make use of it. Comments welcomed (Yes, I do hope some ETL pics will appear soon, but I've really had no time and I'm going on holiday soon...) Jolemai
Something new for me is to do a unit by unit analysis. I've seen others do it and thought I'd have a go myself to help me get a better understanding of my units and what I'm doing wrong.Mephiston Powers weren't the best but when they clicked, it was devastating. Very slow without Wings of Sanguinius and I should have probably sent him away from the objective after he killed the Wraithknight. Force is going to be huge for Mephiston this side of our new codex imo. Damocles Command Rhino Helped with two of the reserve rolls but missing with the Orbital Bombardment was a disappointment. My opponent hates Rhinos too so that's a bonus at least. Corbulo Forgot Far Seeing Eye, used him badly, probably should have dropped him for a Chaplain/Reclusiarch. Back to BA school for me! Furioso Librarian Dreadnought A little underwhelming but I see potential with him as not only a body guard for Mephiston, but a better mana battery than a Lv2 Librarian. Will likely use the Mep/Rave/FLD combo again whenever I take Mephiston. Assault Squad with Flamer (RASf) with Razorback in “lasplas” configuration (Plaserback) Standard unit for me these days. Can't hit a barn door with Lascannons though. The RAS outdid themselves with their rush of the Seer Council :) Assault Squad with Melta gun (RASm) in Razorback with twin-linked Heavy Bolters (Bolterback) Another standard unit that sadly didn't do anything of note. Death Company with a Land Raider Too aggressive? Wrong configuration? Not enough buffs? Either way, I don't appear to be using them very well lately. As for the Land Raider, that was probably it's best performance for a while. Was considering making it a Crusader, but I think I did the right thing leaving it as a Phobos. Scout Squad Grabbed two objectives but other than that they did little. Bad/rusty generalship again... 2 x Attack Bike “squadron” with Multimelta Threw them away cheaply perhaps? As for Jink, it may keep them alive but it really neuters them :/ Land Speeder “squadron” with dual Heavy Bolters Another unit I like and see potential with, but I think it may need to appear in numbers. See above for Jink in the 7th edition. Predator Destructor in “autolas” configuration Standard configuration for me, notably eradicated early on for its reputation. Put too much trust in cover to keep it alive, but I wanted to try and take out the shield-less Wave Serpent... Stormraven Gunship It feels so naked without its Hurricane Bolters once the missiles are gone! Was also disappointed with it's performance as it didn't do much. Whirlwind One round of firing before being removed, did it's job. Summary I'm a little rusty at the game, but I feel I used some units badly. Probably should have started with the Attack Bikes and Land Speeder on the field, if only for target saturation. Was a little hesitant on the first turn about where to go which didn't help. Enjoyed the new tactical objectives and the reintroduction of the psychic phase, but this will take some getting used to. To be honest, I was also a little dejected around turn two even though I managed to claw it back somewhat. Just one of those things I guess. Shaezus
Nice battle report, the details really paint a picture of the unfolding battle. Pesky farseer! Always worth a go though, as a hit there would have eased things for you. You did well to stick in and come back from those punishing first two turns. I think it's no coincidence that mephiston is not mentioned until turn 3. Maybe you were unlucky with the death company charge on the avatar. My two pence worth - try putting corbs with mephiston and have them jump in the land raider. If you get a turn two charge with them, you'll soon have your oppo dancing to your tune. Not sure where this would leave your death company but a tooled-up DC and mephiston fulfill the same roles so maybe you could ditch them and use the points to duplicate predator or bikes as these units are best fielded in pairs IMHO. On psychic powers, it's encouraging to note that even without iron arm the other powers combine to give you similar success i.e. Enfeeble and force vs wraithknight. Jolemai
Aye, that part is encouraging. However, Force is really necessary! Guess I should use two dice next time... Psychic shriek is situational, but a very good option for when you don't get Invisibility. As for the "Mephistar" don't get me wrong, I am up for trying it one day and could easily work it into that list. I do wonder though, what would I use as a mana battery for Mephiston? Perhaps an Inquisitor and a small henchman warband with a psyker? *Strokes beard* Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/262966-jolemais-blog-of-wips-battle-reports-and-musings/page/2/#findComment-3766668 Share on other sites
Corvus_Danseur
Having just used a small Inquisitor warband today I cannot recommend them highly enough. Xenos Inquisitor with rad grenades (-1 to target toughness turn you charge), a few Death Cult Assassins for fun I5, WS5 power weapons and Priest for 4+ invul and reroll armour saves in close combat. Great fun on their own to target weakened units end game. And if you manage to pull off a combined charge with an ASM/Death Company squad those rad grenades make for a very VERY fun time. My two cents :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/262966-jolemais-blog-of-wips-battle-reports-and-musings/page/2/#findComment-3766889 Share on other sites
Jolemai
Today I have a selection of WIPs for your perusal. Corbulo, Death Company, Scout: The Heavy Bolter armed Scout is about 95% complete. He just needs his face finishing, his base tidying up and a tiny amount of additional highlight added. The other two are at about 75% as they still require highlights and fine detail. Death Company Imperial Knight: Yes you read that right. My freelance Imperial Knight Paladin will be in Death Company colours (apparently, the pilot likes to paint his machine to match the force he's serving).
