Aqui
Looks about the right height to me Thanks, Im going to put a scroll above it and try and remove all the dark black lines with shading so it should look less stark and more blended Congratulations on the Mod upgrade too. Thanks There are quite a few projects that have a fair bit of freehand work, something that I haven't really attempted. Seeing this (and others) has made me decide to have a proper try at some point, most likely for the Contemptor I'll have soon, so thanks for the inspiration! UltraRich
My predators almost got some crew! http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f372/rbrewster101/IMG_1289_zps7175f2a7.jpg Ive tried to tie in the bionic nid hunter theme http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f372/rbrewster101/4a9e75a9-f74c-4d8b-8ce3-a898af6385d4_zps84a458d9.jpg My second banners also coming on but I not convinced yet as it looks too cartoony http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f372/rbrewster101/IMG_1291_zpsca92ebd3.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/267884-ultramarines-1st-company-project/page/12/#findComment-3613669 Share on other sites
UltraRich
My Cronos stand in is finished and in place The only thing Im not sure about is if I should add the open hatch doors or not on the cupola. Weathering and the sponsons to finish and I think this is done.... then its onto the Achilles http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f372/rbrewster101/IMG_1300_zps3df32f9b.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/267884-ultramarines-1st-company-project/page/12/#findComment-3614076 Share on other sites
Brother Milner
This really looks nice. The battle damage really tells you that these guys have been around and know what they are doing. If only we could field a tank like that in the game.. I would say put the hatch doors on, with putty. If it looks to crowded you can take it of. Star Phantom
That looks incredible, the weathering and battle damage is so well done combined with a great colour scheme, and adding you chronus count as really finished it off, we'll done. For the hatch, my personal preference would be to have it closed, just as I can't imagine one of the best tank commanders in the imperium leaving a hatch open when fighting tyranids. The_Chaplain
Seconding what Brother Milner said about attaching the hatches to the cupola with putty to see if they work. Good googa mooga, I cannot wait to see your Achilles. Lachdannan
That banner to denote the veteran status is pure genius. The predator and Chronus are coming along very nicely. Great work as always. Redrandy93
UltraRich your work is absolutely amazing! I have saved many of your progress photos to use when I do my First company of Ultra Marines. UltraRich
@Brother Milner @ Star Phantom @The_Chaplain Thanks guys. Ive tried them out with blue tac and they look ok. It actually looks like hes resting the bolt pistol on it so I think they will get added when I do a spray on Friday @ Biohazard Thanks, I think the achilles might have to wait as Ive a great idea for a base for my 2nd contemptor involving one of the recon squad so that may be next @ Brother Syth Thanks, hopefully I can get the banner finished at some point @Redrandy93 I think thats the first time somones asked me that. No I dont paint professionally. I just do it as a hobby as I dont play any more either. Thats why I tend to follow the rule of cool and ignore most of the fluff. Im glad you can take something from this post and I hope it helps. If you have any questions please ask as I can always put a quick tutorial together Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/267884-ultramarines-1st-company-project/page/12/#findComment-3619658 Share on other sites
UltraRich
Got bored, moved on..... damn my impatience to get onto the next project.... I will go back and finish the sternguard and predator.... one day So carrying on with the Nid hunter theme I present my hunter class Contemptor. It will have the cyclone pod once the glues set http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f372/rbrewster101/IMG_1346_zps7d51cfa1.jpg I had a couple of SH Nids so with a bit of carving (and some GS to add later. Ive come up with this half dead steeler who is about to be granted the emperors mercy The plan is to make it look like its just been cleaved with the sword and is about to be blown away. Ive got some of the vallejo metallic glaze medium so Im going to see if I can do the power sword in graduated silver/blue/metallic with realistic blood effects........ thats going to be fun. Im assuming this image isnt going to cause issues but (mods) if it does let me know or take the image down. Thanks http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f372/rbrewster101/IMG_1349_zps7a4130cf.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/267884-ultramarines-1st-company-project/page/12/#findComment-3622410 Share on other sites

Aqui
As far as I know, the 'Stealer is in the process of dying and as it's not the focus of the model, it should be okay Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/267884-ultramarines-1st-company-project/page/12/#findComment-3622441 Share on other sites

UltraRich
Thanks Guys I'll keep the nid phots in context of the base Ive settled on a post now. Ive also finished the pose on the nid and swapped the arms around when I realised that it had 4 and the pairs were different! Ive got some more GS work to do but Ive filled in the damage to it with some organs I think Tamiya clear red will be my friend on this mini http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f372/rbrewster101/IMG_1350_zpsd97d5935.jpg http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f372/rbrewster101/IMG_1356_zps77a6213f.jpg "Need any help?" http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f372/rbrewster101/IMG_1357_zps558760b8.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/267884-ultramarines-1st-company-project/page/12/#findComment-3622796 Share on other sites
UltraRich
I managed to get the best part of the sword finished last night The cameras actually washing out the graduation slightly as the blacks are very black and there are a couple of swipes of white on it. I ended up masking each side holding a piece of card up and I dont think it came out too bad. Instead of the normal electic blue I used greys The only issue now is as its just been used to nearly chop a stealer in half do I try and add blood to it?? http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f372/rbrewster101/IMG_1361_zps31d6f3db.jpg EDIT: Heres a better pic that shows the contrast. The blue blob at the bottom is a reflection off one of the last ink washes pre matt medium http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f372/rbrewster101/IMG_1363_zps500fb0cc.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/267884-ultramarines-1st-company-project/page/12/#findComment-3623572 Share on other sites
Aqui
If it's a powersword, the energy field could have destroyed any traces of blood on it However, rule of cool could say otherwise The sword itself looks great. I'd be reluctant to risk ruining the work put into it, by giving it some "claret". I'm sure you'd do well with it though Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/267884-ultramarines-1st-company-project/page/12/#findComment-3623576 Share on other sites
Grandmaster damion
I would be tempted to add a blood effect with Tamiya Clear Red it has a dual effect of giving a 'wet' look and being clear is semi translucent so you can see other paint effects trough it. worked wonders on my Flesh Tearer's and is giving my Sharks that 'fresh from the massacre' look. The Yak
Been a while since I checked out your Ultras. I'd forgotten how good they look. Great work on the Predator and its banner. The dread's sword is brilliant, really like the effect. Like Aqs said it would be a shame to tarnish that paint job with blood. If you do add some Tamiya CR to it and then are not keen on the effect you will have to strip it and start again (no painting over it once it has congealed). You could go to town on the stealer though, maybe do some blood splatter on the wrist, torso, knee and shin of the dread? I wonder what would happen if you fired a conversion beamer at something only 5 foot away? Not that he needs help anyway as that bulbous head is just asking for a wholehearted stomp..... MordentHex
Power weapons clean themselves, they fry the blood and any flesh matter trapped within the field. It then just flakes off as carbon. Now if the field is destroyed/ damaged..its basically just a fancy sword and the blood would remain... How did the Metallic medium perform for you? I ordered 4 bottles of it last week, jet to see anyone actually use it for anything but a extreme silver highlight on armor. Edit: the predator is amazing and im loving the dead nids. UltraRich
@ Aquilanus @ Grandmaster damion @MordentHexIll probably go with the "its a power sword" option. I cant bring myself to paint it @ The Yak Good to see you back. I'll probably go with your suggestion and blood up the contemptor and surrounding base. Ive a good idea for blood running down the rock @MordentHex I first gave it a basecoat with skull white + metallic medium and it actually came out with a pearl finish. I dont know if I left it long enough but it almost had a vinyl texture. I didnt like it so I stripped it and went for it with my citadel paints. I am liking the valejo gold though. Its very bright Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/267884-ultramarines-1st-company-project/page/12/#findComment-3624515 Share on other sites

UltraRich
Thanks Squeaky. Whats not to like? (Joke, I dont want a flame war) Anyway, Ive been working on the metallics and base. The Nids about done except for the nails. Tonight Im attaching it to the base and then hitting it with fake blood. Ive also realised I like painting purple.... maybe a small force of emperors children next? http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f372/rbrewster101/IMG_1370_zpse7a871bb.jpg http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f372/rbrewster101/IMG_1371_zps1c3318c9.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/267884-ultramarines-1st-company-project/page/12/#findComment-3625670 Share on other sites
