Thanks Guys

Considering Ive seen the standard of your companies I appreciate the comments.

Heres an update of the progress on the champion. Im going to have to find a better way of taking pictures as the bulb on my daylight lamp is washing out the highlight shades especially on the cape and helmet.

EDIT: Ive switched out the pictures for these now Ive set up a "paper towel" light box ;)

This is the first time Ive free handed a vet symbol. I hate using transfers so I thought Id give it a go. Only another 10 or so to go!

I needed a break from blue so I started on some bases. I dont think they are too bad but I have a nagging feeling they look like dog food.

Heres whats next. Its the first of the 5. Ive opted to use plastic shoulder pads as I prefer the trim size to the FW resin pads.

Q. What colour is a veteran Sargent helmet if the squad is white? Standard red?

These really are fantastic. How did you do those cloaks by the way? I can't seem to make mine look anything but flat.

Simple really

Start with a black undercoat

Then a coat of base red (cant remember what its called)

I then gave it a wash with black nuin oil (sp?) and a mix if medium 50/50 this means it flows into all the creases.

I then hit it with a wash of devlin mud in the dark areas.

It then had progressive mix's of red/yellow and medium until I got to an off orange colour on the main highlights.

It then had a thinned down wash of red to tie it all together.

Thanks to everyone else re the helmet. I'll post this up tomorrow.

Quick update

Ive been working on my first test marine

The free hand knee needs a tidy and it still needs some highlighting but I cant decide if the helmet damage is "right" I dont know if I should over paint it white.

The damage to the helmet looks right to me, as it indicates that the weapon that caused it exposed the Ceramite (or whatever Marine armour is made of) under the armours' paint.  Love the shade of Blue and the red cloak etc is such a gorgeous shade ^_^

I really must get around to getting some FW stuff once I've finally cleared the backlog of mini's I already have...

Another quick update

Ive finished off the one above and started another 3 (yes 3!) Anyone would think I have a vow.

Ive started on the sergeant and got the base colours, some shade and some weathering done

Ive gone for one of Anvils bionic arms.

I dont know if I should give him a chainsword in his left hand or make it a pointy arm (as we all know marines like pointing)

Three of his mates are well under way too

These two are base coated and ready for detailing

This ones only based and I cant seem to see any references for the rocket launcher colour.

Heres the reason Ive not done too much. I thought the 1st could do with some hardware

Not sure if I like the sword across

or vertical

I'd say go with Red casing for the Missile Launcher in a nod to older editions, but your choice.

I say vertical, across makes him look too busy, as if he'd stumble. Vertical gives off the 'Come at me' expression.

I like these a lot, always partial to Ultramarines.

Great work, Maximus armour looks particularly good in veteran colours I think :) The Sergeant's helmet looks really good so I'm glad you've decided to keep it, the laural markings turned out well. I like the bases too, they look suitably muddy.
