I quite like the first two images. The yellow looks really good, and the details look great. The others look good, but are a little too bright yellow for my tastes. Having said that,  I do like the boarding marine shield you have with the stripes and the contemptor looks cool.

 

Hope there is more where this came from!

So I just picked up some more toys (Legion mkIII heavy weapons squad, the new missile pack, apothecary pack, MKIII legion command upgrade, and Phobos pattern bolters) and they should be here from forgeworld in a few days/weeks. Until then, I'm stuck contemplating how to get the imperial fists symbol onto the shoulder pads. I was thinking about making a little Greeen stuff mould, has anyone had any luck with those? I've never been a good sculptor, sadly, so this will be a learning experience!

This is my yellow "recipe"

Prime: white

Basecoat: Vallejo Air Golden Yellow 

Layer: Games Workshop Golden Yellow

Wash edges: Vallejo Sepia. 

This is the direct result of literally years of testing yellow.

I encountered the same problem for my troops to which the damned artificer kindly gave me a solution.

 

Basically you get this icon pack from Forge World and you'll be using the circular Imperial Fist icon. The you cut away everything other than the Fist, and attach that to your pads to get a nice raised and moulded Fist.

Now in order for this not to cost a fortune, I invested in some Instant mold. Very easy to get from multiple places just a google search should suffice. Its very easy to use and if you make a mistake with the mold, then just put it back in boiling water and reshape and try again. Great for 2D objects like shields and such, but can work with 3D objects with some planning and thought. Check out youtube for plenty of ideas and tutorials.

 

To give you an idea, I made these shields from Instantmold.

The great thing is the Green Stuff doesn't stick to it and it cures over night no problems. Great stuff.

my part of the order had MkIII Legion marines, Apothecary set, Phobos bolters, MkIII Heavy Weapons Squad, 5 pack of missile launchers, and the MkIII command upgrade. And I'm already going to need a dreadnought power fist, more boarding shields, and more marines.

love that boarding captain, i picked one up myself from Games Day when i went 2 years back. I'd mount him on a bigger base tbh. Standard bases are under sized due to his pose. Looks amazing on a larger base.

 

Loving the Yellow btw, i may have to borrow this technique when i do my Lysander up.

My only gripe is that I have no idea how to get the CCW dread into combat, if I take a Praetor with the Rites of War: Orbital Assault, I can give him a dreadclaw, but that's a lot of points to sink for that ability. I also like this list because if necessary, I can add apothecaries to the tactical squads, and the breacher squad for 135 points, making it close to 2k... Another option is dropping a few upgrades, and slapping the Centurion with the heavy weapons squad as a Siege breaker, and crack open all those big vehicles..

 

So many choices, so few points!

So upon expection of my forgeworld goods, I noticed that fresh from the package, my heavy weapons marines arms came ripped off the sprue, taking an impressive chunk out of each f them. Guess I'll have to give forgeworld a ring and get those replaced, but everything else seems good to go.

The thud gun I picked up from my boss, the best part is that the gun is magnetized, so when I inevitably pick up the rapier battery, I'm gonna fit it up with the thud gun and see how well it fits.

They look fantastic, one of the better forgeworld kits I've purchased. They fixed a lot of the issues they had with the mkIII molds, and created new ones. The shoulder pad for the weapon arm is super thin, and it's heavy and attached to the sprue using a single thick connector, meaning it'll break and it will take a large chunk of pad with it.

All in all, it's a solid kit and my only quip is that the shoulder pad on the gun arm is mkII, and not MKIII.
