ok, well, its not exactly how it seems. so, this friend of mine generally commissions me to model his units. Recently he commissioned me to convert for him a mauler/forge fiend by fusing the thunder tusk model kit from the fantasy range with the Maulerfiend kit and he stressed to me that he wanted the thunder tusk to be the primary source of the model and that I can keep all the bits. That being said, there's a huge portion of the kit that's going to be left that could essentially allow me to make a mauler fiend. Ill wing it. :P

since I tried to read the manga, man that manga is some seriously twisted stuff,

back on topic - great! now you have no excuses, im dying to see these minis with some colour on them!

between this log and all the great nightlords ones im seriously considering going turncloak...

Haha, glad you liked it.

 

But ya, with a combination of things like Berserk, Outlast, Amnesia, Silent Hill, and other sources of inspiration as well as a few conversations with Brother Heinrich, my Word Bearers are going to take a much more twisted and occult turn from now on.

the berserk manga (graphic novels) makes the anime look like sesame street, not kidding, its great but really messed up...

 

anything occult is cool in my book

 

really interested to see how this plays out

 

I actually caved in and bought a box of chaos space marines last week, I really need to spend more time reading the lore to work out what I want to do with them...

 

but this log has been a massive source of inspiration for me

 

keep it up!

Hey guys, another update. So a little while back, I received a large assortment of Noise weapons and backpacks from various trades and purchases, giving me ample room to get started on my Slaaneshi contingent to go alongside my Word Bearers. The plan for these guys is to combine weapons with the heads and shoulderpads from the Raptor box which just fit perfectly together. And yes, that is the start of some paint. Still very WIP but he'll be getting the brush soon enough.

Next up we have something I need your help on guys. So this here will be one of my more Senior Noise Champions, equipped with the twin Lightning Claws, as you can see, and he will also have a Doom Siren once I learn a proper way to balance the ridiculous weight of that heavy metal backpack. The problem is, I'm just not sure what to do for his head. Nothing has seem to fit so far....

 

Any ideas, guys?

Just read the whole of this thread.

Incredible stuff, from beginning to end.:happy.:

 

As for the headless champ, the hats from the new Raptors/Warp Talons could be a nice fit, although I don't know if they're noise-marine-y enough for him.:ermm:

Still, that's the best I can come up with.:laugh.:

Well, if you're up for a little conversion work I think I have an idea for this champion of the dark prince.

Why not take a Sanguinary Guard death mask, trim/shave/etc the head crest and closed mouth off then use green stuff to sculpt on a open, screaming mouth (like the faces decorating the FW Palatine Blades) and slight longer hair (kinda like a Weeping Angel's "aggressive face").

Perhaps you could paint the mask golden with rich amethyst eye lenses, make him look like he's incredibly vain and twisted.

You could also do the whole flayed-head thing, that always seems fitting for EC, considering they get off on what Night Lords would classify as torture.

Another option would be to do something Hellraiser-esque...

Regarding that Slaaneshi champ, I think it depends on what you want the pose to be interpreted as:

 

Is he challenging an enemy with a sort of mock "let me give you a hug" pose? That could be very cool indeed! For a pose like that, I'd use a face that mirrors the mockery of the pose. The bare head that comes with the Chaos Lord in Terminator armour would work pretty nicely for that, since it has a slightly haughty, amused expression. It also looks like someone who has seen *a lot*, which would be great for a champion of the Dark Prince. You could maybe use some hair, in order to make him look suitably "beautiful" ;)

 

Or is he bellowing at the moon/stars/heavens? In that case, a more bestial look would be in order: You could indeed use a Possessed head, or maybe the horned head from the WFB Chaos Sorceror Lord? it makes for a pretty convincing Slaaneshi head (I used it on an EC champ of my own).

 

Or you could use a head licking its lips in anticipation of the slaughter ahead: A shaved down Bloodletter head might be great for that, since it already comes with the tongue ;)

 

All things considered, the "screaming at the heavens" shtick seems to be more Khornate than Slaaneshi, though...

UPDATE! AND THIS TIME WITH PAINT!

 

Alright, guys so this is a more finalized version of my Word Bearers paint scheme. I tried my hand at a little bit of freehanding, which obviously still needs some practice and didn't work out too well on the chaos star, however I think that will be something that can fairly easily be painted over and tried again. All in all, I'm pretty happy with how he came out, base and all. Needs a bit of touch ups here and there but for the most part done.

 

What do you guys think?
