++ From the Abyss - A Word Bearers Log ++

Looking good man, seems like you darkened the blue a bit as well. For lighting the key is in the 'glow effect'. For mine I paint the lightning pattern in VGC Magic Blue before going back over it with VGC White. When I do this I try as much as possible to get an even more thin line of white so that it allows the edge of the Magic Blue layer to be visible, thus creating the 'glow' effect. I use the same color for my armor highlights so that there is a nice subtle continuity that's pleasing to the eye. Also pull up pictures of lightning when you paint, it's easy to forget how the stuff behaves and start making a 'human' interpretation of lightning.

Let me know if I can help in any other way brother. Ave Dominus Nox.

Ooh I really like the way you did the chiropteran Night Lord symbol Noctus. For the lightning, as others have said, less is more (which I think you fixed with the touchups) but I think there's still a bit too much white. Try not to cover the whole "bolt" with white, after all its only the "strongest" parts of the bolt that are white. Hope that helps a bit.

So, with the coming of the new technical paints from GW, I really wanted to get on them and try it out. Unfortunately being a poor college student, I have little money so I could only afford one. Without a second though, I picked up 'BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD' technical paint because I had already heard good things about it from my friend. I was so eager to give it a try that I whipped up a Khorne Berzerker just to try the blood paint out.

I apologize, the over all paint of the Berzerker needs some touch ups, that's for sure but I wanted to show you guys what I've been doing with my Chaos army and that I am still practicing my painting. Practice makes perfect and all that jazz. Right? :)

I think it turned out awesome, Noc. One suggestion would be to hit it with another light coat that's been mixed with a darker brown or a tiny bit of black in it. Will add some realistic depth to the gore.

Good to know that the new technicals have potential. I'll see about picking some up.

I like the model. I do think you should consider thinning your paints a bit, in addition to using washes in specific places instead of bathing them in it. I will also sound like a broken record when I suggest trying out inks for separating colors and armor.

I know, I know. I should have been far more careful with my painting. I was just so eager to try out the new paints that I wanted to get a ready model as quick as possible that I didn't bother to take any real time with it. I'll try and clean him up soon, promise. :(

As i learned to paint patiently on my Night Lords i had a side project of absentmindedly slapping paint and dipping WHFB skeletons in 20 man batches. It was nice to have two sides of that spectrum at my disposal for whatever i was in the mood for. I understand your plight.

Yeah... Thanks again though, Dan. Your advice is always helpful. I'll try to apply it into my next go around.

In light of recent events, (particularly with the oh so flattering moment when my good friend Brother Heinrich asked if he could make his Raptors members of the Carrion Host aswell, I thought it might be necessary to recover this particular situation. Now, I had never really intended for the Carrion Host to be more than a single squad, just a handful of survivors after Karazantor sold them out to the Black Legion, but if these flesh-crazed cannibals are to expand, then I feel it is only natural that their 'Master' get a bit of an upgrade aswell. The changes to him are minor mostly because I absolutely love Karazantor's pose and base design too much to change it. Its simple yet absolutely oozes violence and authority.
