Noctus Cornix
Really? That's depressing. :( Well I'll give them a try anyway, see what turns up. I like both the Word Bearers and the Ultramarines during the heresy (if I had to pick a loyalist and traitor legion to make, it would probably be them) so I have no qualms. Kol Saresk
Yeah, Mark of Calth has its ups and downs, but Underground War is definitely the peak. Noctus Cornix
@Jaspcat Actually, it will probably be a bit of a mix between Grey and Red. What im currently thinking is mainly going for Grey Armour with Crimson inset on the shoulderpads and silver trim. We'll see when I actually get some models. @Vazzy aw, sweet man. Thanks! :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/274401-from-the-abyss-a-word-bearers-log/page/8/#findComment-3422790 Share on other sites

Brother Heinrich
Personally I like Mark of Calth, I was thinking about it while I painted today and how completely horrifying the underground war must have been. Basically it's like an underground 40k version of verdun mixed with the Vietnam war. Just heinous, murderous warfare everywhere, corroding the souls of everyone involved. One of those conflicts that really tests everyone involved. Brother Heinrich
Yeah for sure, freaking terrifying especially since the Astartes way of war must have caused innumerable cave-ins. Brother Heinrich
Did any Word Bearers survive Calth? That place become a death trap for both legions, and the Word Bearers left their own stranded. To my knowledge only Kor Phaeron got out of there through a warp gate. Kol Saresk
Well, technically all of the Word Bearers in the Maelstrom are those who fled from Calth with Kor Phaeron, who escaped by ship. Erebus did escape throu a Warp Gate. So technically speaking, yes a great deal of Word Bearers survived Calth. As for surviving the Underground War, M'Kar is the only one I heard of and he got out towards the beginning of it. However it is always possible that more survived by making daemonic pacts, opening Warp Gates or maybe even hijacking some of the first rescue ships is such a thing could have been managed. But I wouldn't expect many of them. Kol Saresk
Well, if you were trapped on an enemy planet, how would you escape? You potentially have access to warp magicks, daemons and possibly enemy transports. Use that answer to create your story. There was that story in Mark of Calth about the dude collecting chapter tokens. After you read that one, you could probably think up some good fluff for a guy escaping that nightmare. Vazzy
I was thinking about this the other day. An Underworld war unit would be awesome to see. A parallel one between the XIII and the XVII would be neat to see. Noctus Cornix
So just a quick update, guys. Today was my last day on the job, which frees up a ton of my time. Noctus Cornix
Hail to the Ruined King, my brothers. Today was a good day today. I ventured up to Cypress today to meet with brother Vazzy at one of the local Games Workshops. (Note this was my first time ever in one before) We did a friendly 2v2 3000 point game with him and two of his friends. While the battle was nothing exactly worth reporting, we all had a good time and I was very happy to meet Vazzy and Kill a few Ultramarines. One thing I must say was a feeling of annoyance in myself when I took the field. Running an army of grey unpainted marines was embarrassing to say the least against Vazzy's Ultramarines, so I think I can confidently say I have found a certain motivation of envy to actually start painting and get my crap together. That being said, take a look at some random picks I took with some of my Word Bearer's and his Ultramarines. :P http://i915.photobucket.com/albums/ac352/Noctus-Cornix/WP_000504_zpsf7af5c45.jpg http://i915.photobucket.com/albums/ac352/Noctus-Cornix/WP_000505_zps85221743.jpg http://i915.photobucket.com/albums/ac352/Noctus-Cornix/WP_000508_zps0597f20c.jpg http://i915.photobucket.com/albums/ac352/Noctus-Cornix/WP_000510_zps85cdbd76.jpg http://i915.photobucket.com/albums/ac352/Noctus-Cornix/WP_000509_zps94b6125e.jpg Enjoy.
