BitsHammer Posted January 29, 2018 Share Posted January 29, 2018 TITH....I'm actually going to sum up a few days: I decided to not continue with Marines (for now at least) and ended up starting Mechanicus. I've build 5x Corpuscarii Electro-priests (primed with GW's silver primer), 5x Infiltrators (also primed), Cawl (who also is painted but needs basing), a Neutron Dunecrawler (also primed, but left in sub-assemblies), found my Dominus (originally painted Metalica colors with a Volkite and Macrostubber combo, re-primed for new project) and started assembly on my Rangers and Vanguard (building 5 of each using the starter box). Rangers and Vanguard are being built with Arquebus and Plasma respectively, but since I'm going to effectively need three boxes to flesh out the squads fully I'm thinking of doing the other ten guys as Vanguard and give them Arc Rifles. Painting wise (outside of Cawl) I'm looking at Forge World Moon Deimos (which has a nice kind of cool grey scheme for the robes with red armour and makes me feel less silly if I pair in Grey Knights or an Inquisitor to help me balance out my army against psyker silliness in the future), and running them using the rules for Graia (anti-psyker strategem and the ability to shoot in close combat Warlord trait bubble says "fights daemons" the most to me). Well I've gotten past painting a single model and deciding if I want to keep it up (all that did was affirm that while I can paint red rather quickly for robes (took me less than an hour to from base coat to finish to do all of the red on Cawl) I'm not really interested in doing a full Mars army (maybe it's all that dull silver that kind of starts blending together from further away). I've been wracking my head over Deimos' colors but I've just about nailed it I think: Fang basecoat (helps tone the layer above it), Russ Grey overall layer, wash (was thinking Nuln Oil but with the lightness of the colors it looks too dark. Thinking a green to match the very slight greenish tint that Deimos' official art has in the greys (I checked using MS Paint and the color sampler tool)) but I'm going to need to play around with a test model (I've got some scouts with camo cloaks I'm going to use since the more defined ridges will make contrast easier to see), then Ferensian Grey as a fine/edge highlight. If I need a lighter highlight over that I'll be looking at likely lightening Fenresian Grey with a bit of White Scar since there isn't a lighter blue-grey over that. Very clicky, most people playing bolt action or hobbit. One guy i approached about a game gave the impression that he'd rather curl in the corner and go to sleep. YITHI Started working out exactly what I'm gonna need to make a 2k custodes list, turns out it's 2 boxes of bikes, one each of allarus termies and wardens (to make some foot captains and vexillas), Trajan vallorous and the codex (luckily for my wallet I've got a birthday coming up in a couple of months), I also swapped out the only vexilla in my three custodes squads for another sentinel blade. Axineton Posted January 30, 2018 Share Posted January 30, 2018 TITH i thought i'd start having a go at painting a couple of test Primaris Marines. got some white spray out that i'd bought and started spraying only for me to glance at the can and its white gloss so i threw that model in the bin. Started another one with white matt this time and looked great till it dried and theres a lot of build up around his shoulder pads and the chest etc so gonna use some dettol and remove the paint from that one. I may even use a brush next time like the old days to undercoat. not sure i'm cut out for spraying. I'm leaving room in the Ranger squad for a second Arquebus, and the Vanguard are going to form two units (one for Plasma, one for Arc Rifles). The 6th Vanguard is probably going to be a second Alpha when I'm done. Hooray Although I'm yet to confirm if I'll be able to glue the shoulders to the torso in a sturdy connection. Stoic Raptor Posted February 2, 2018 Share Posted February 2, 2018 (edited) TITH I began the highlights on my Dark Angels Scout Bikers. The bikes will be highlighted after the riders are finished. I also worked out some initial army lists for the Custodes codex I picked up yesterday. I'm getting a bonus in tomorrow's paycheck and I figure I'll pick up the Talons box set (I want the Land Raider for my Deathwing, I'll turn the Rhino into a Razorback for my Dark Angels and probably sell the Sisters) and if I add a box of Wardens, a box of Custodian Guard and Trajann, I'll have the stuff to make a 1500-point army as a Battalion and a Vanguard. Should be able to do it for just under $250.00. Tomorrow I will pick up the Wardens I ordered, and I'll get Trajann Valoris and datacards if I can find them. I want to dive right in and start assembling guys now, but I want to do a little more work on army lists so that they have the optimal wargear. YITH I worked on free handing some cog stuff for my Dominus and decided to take the color even lighter (from Russ Grey to Ferensian Grey) for the robes to brighten them up some more. I'm thinking of leaving Russ Grey as a hard armour colour (so Infiltrator body armour, Dune Crawlers, ect) with Ferensian Grey being a highlight colour. Oh, and I started working on an idea for the writing contest thing the Black Library is doing. Thinking a Chaos Cultist heist thing.
