Chaos Land Raider Cathedral Conversion

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, so I'm working on a Chaos army at the moment, and I had a moment of inspiration. Now, I have kind of an odd affinity for cathedral architecture, specifically for flying buttresses. So, I decided that I was going to turn a Land Raider into a glorious, rolling cathedral to chaos using parts from these kits:

So, I Photoshopped a (very) rough idea of what the end product would look like:

So, other than a few scale differences that will be easy to deal with, what do you guys think? Would this be possible? Would I run into any issues with the final product being to big to use in a game? I'm still very new to this stuff, so I need all the help I can get.

Oh yeah, I plan on spiking this thing right on up. spikes adorned with Heads, skulls, bones, all that jazz. The picture would be just the beginning.

That kit is also great because my Khorne army actually has a subtle rose theme to it.

if you have the skills and the thrills i say go for it. BTW a awesome theme would be a rose that looks like it was made from a organ.

Ooh, I like that. then I could also go for the blood theme with a bunch of hearts and stuff. (I can make hearts and roses look badass!)

I have this feeling you won't have the room on top of a Land Raider to do what you propose and have it look good. The more or less flat ares on top of the vehicle is only about 9 cm wide and 10 cm long, and those flying buttresses you have in your mock-up are already a few centimetres wide (I don't have any at hand to measure here and am too lazy to go to my hobby room smile.png) so that would leave very little room for the actual building.

Check out Eddie Eccles Land raider in this months WD, cant find a painted pic online, but its on ADB's blog:

Also the Doghouses Cosmic Space Knights Land raider is impressive:

That makes sense. What I might do is take a crypt from the garden (like in one of the pictures Xenith linked) and put it on with maybe two or 3 buttresses stuck on the side of it. That might actually look better, now that I think about it.

What you could do is put a building on top of the Land Raider, as large as will comfortably fit, and have one or two buttresses on top of each sponson, plus more at front and rear. You could even add extra "roof" sections above the side doors and put buttresses on there, to match those above the sponsons; if you then build supports underneath you can give the doors a very building-like feel.

Another thing I'd probably do, if I were to build a model like this, would be to leave out the entire front hatch and replace it by a large door that goes up into the building on the vehicle's roof — tying the Land Raider and the buidling together.

That is breathtaking. Thanks for sharing!

Now that sounds like a very solid game plan.
