Operation True-Scale: Khorne Berzerker

G' Day

I recently came to the realisation that I won't ever be able to produce a whole army. It just takes me forever. Also I recently moved across te globe to Australia and had to leave all of my paint and other material at home, in Sweden. I did however bring most of my tools and all of my remaining parts and bits. Since I got here I have mainly focused on digital drawings but I now have a new project. I'm going to recreate characters from Black Library books and other characters that I'm keen on creating. All of them will be in true-scale and since I'm not creating an entire army I can spend more time and effort on the individual characters.

I used B&C-member Synapses intstructions to create my true-scale marines. His thread here hasn't been active in a long time and the img-links are not working anymore. However, you can still see his marines here: http://s184.photobucket.com/user/voropohaiah/library/truescale%20marines?sort=3&page=1

My plan is to first sculpt a vanilla true scale torso & legs, without any kind of iconography, aquilas, trims and chaos symbols.

Then I'll cast the parts so I won't have to repeat this process for every model.

So far I've sculpted the prototype marine:

And here's a size comparison to a normal marine:

http://i483.photobucket.com/albums/rr193/Brutus85_photo/Operation%20True-scale/DSC_0014.jpg

The next step is to create a two part mould. I've purchased pinkysil for this. We'll see how that goes since I have never done anything like it.

Please let me know what you think! smile.png

Hi

So, it's been a while. Since the last update I've created two moulds. Sadly, both of them kinda sucked but I'll try again. I've learned a few things from my mistakes. I did create one cast though and since it was rather rough and far from flawless I decided that I'd turn him into a Plague Marine msn-wink.gif I wanted to create one representative of each of the chapters anyway.

First I created this sketch in photoshop:

http://th02.deviantart.net/fs70/PRE/f/2013/191/1/b/death_guard_plague_marine_sketch_by_bastianst-d6ctgmi.jpg

While sculpting and putting the model together I changed my mind about a few of my original ideas displayed in the sketch, The skull has been replaced by a helmet for example since there were so many skulls already msn-wink.gif

Things left to do: sculpt feet + base

more mould & decay effects

right shoulder pad (not sure what to do with it yet)

Anyway, have a look and tell me what you think please.

Also, does anyone know how to change the name of the topic?

cheers

I think I'm pretty much done with the plague marine, except for the painting part of course. I've added nurgly stuff, completed the base (just needs sand), added a blight grenade and gave him a pair of boots.

Once I've got my hands on some sand I'm going to glue some to his armor to resemble poxes and puckering. He's a big boy now, compared to the regular gw marines =)

Any ideas what else I could to to him or what I could/should add?

Damn that guy is huge! Awesome work. Really like the skeleton pieces built into the shoulder pad, and the exposed guts.

Thanks man! I had to redo the guts twice but now I'm quite happy with the result

Hey,

I've finallu managed to get some paint on my plague marine. It was probably a good move to srtart with a plague marine since I don't have make the blending perfect!

I'm obviously not done yet but I have to purchase some more paint before I continue. I was partcularly interested in trying that typhus corrosion + rust combo.

Anyone has any experience with that?

Also, my moulds finally worked prefectly so I can produce more true-scale marines =)

Any suggestions or criticism is very welcome.

That's really good, a great contrast between the pink flesh and thr rotten green of the armour and well painted in general. I don't have a suggestions really looks good as is to me.

Thanks man, I appreciate it :)

How has this not got more attention?!

My concern would be the depth and contrast in the flatter planes of armour, but casting up more of those badboys would be supreme.

Haha yes I agree, it's because I got a bit carried away when I was using the washes I think. On his thighs it's supposed to be dirt and runoff from his exposed guts but it that doesn't really come across. I think I'll have to actually paint a bit of blood, pus n grime on his thighs.

Thats fantastic

Thanks, I just looked through your nurgle thread. That's some awesome and inspirational stuff. I wish I had looked at it before I finished sculpting and finishing my plague marine.

that's awesome brother, good to see another aussie on here, keep up the awesome work sweat.gif

haha thanks mate, more aussies on this forum =)

This is what he looks like right now. I've glued him together, added more details, painted the base tried the rust and rot effects. I think I'll take a break for now because I'll rush otherwise, do something silly and mess it up. Just in an attempt to quickly finish him. So I'll leave it for now. I still have to add more details, paint the banner (which colour?) and complete the base. Oh and I want to add some OSL to his eyes. In the meantime I'll work on my Khorne berzerker & Noise Marine (and eventually a Rubric Marine + others).

I'm still not quite finished with the plagye marine but have started to pursue other goals at the moment. Next thing coming up is a khorne berzerker. I did a quick scetch just to get the posture right.

this is the result of the sculpting so far. I'm not quite sure about the arms, they maaay be a bit too big. Please tell me what you think:

also. weird question... Do space marines have belly buttons? I mean they are born as normal humans and only later elevated to become space marines so I guess they should have belly buttons?!

The arms look fine to me, maybe a bit hulked out on some khorne-roids but thats an acceptable mutation :D . The plaguey looks awesome, good stuff.

Thanks man, the khorne-roids made sense to me so I've left the arms like that =)

Very nice stuff, love the nuirgle guy and the berserker is coming along great.

Pose of the Bereserker looks great to me.

Wow, praise from the god of true-scale himself =D thank youuu

Wow, that nurgle marine is awesome, I love how the size makes it all seem right. I am following this thread cuz I have to see how the bezerker comes out.

Thanks =) Yeah, I've never quite liked the size and proportions of the original marines. Especially compared to regular Imperial armed forces.

I'm almost done with the berserker now, just a few details remain such as the base and I have to fill some gaps aaaaaand then there's the painjob as well ^^

But some progress nonetheless. I have also received my first parcel from Forgeworld (yaaaay) I just ordered some chainaxes, umbra bolters and the night lord heads.

I'm going to work on other projects simultaneously now while I wait for the green stuff to cure. So now I have also started a Space wolf warrior. Eventually I want a representative of all the chapters.... eventually! And I've planned to recreate some of the Characters from the books, such as the entire crew from the Night Lord novels. =D

So this is the current state of my berzerker and he currently stands almost double the height of a regular marine (ooopsie).

I've elongated his facemask slightly as well along all the other modifications. I just don't understand how people on this forum are so gifted by the gods with GS talent. I have a hard time using it (and apoxie sculp). Luckily I know how to cheat and improvise fairly well ;)

Some progress:

I'm pretty much done with the flesh. What do you guys think?

I was going for a palish ripped steroid look. Unfortunately I allowed the wash to pool in a few places but I think I managed to correct it.

The red is only the first layer and with the base I stole the idea from Lemmingspawn on coolminiornot. It's an old thread but he's got some awesome stuff in there and here's his instruction manual for lava bases: http://www.coolminiornot.com/articles/content.php?1750-iron-giants-lava-bases&

http://i483.photobucket.com/albums/rr193/Brutus85_photo/Operation%20True-scale/IMG_2186.jpg

I'm quite satisfied with the lava effects and the eyes. I kinda regret not painting him in heresy colours though since that would have allowed me too add a lot more gore.

What do you guys think? Anything I should add or do differently? Any input or feedback would be greatly appreciated.
