Brother-Chaplain Kage
Got a few different updates today. First, I found my resin IF and Deathwatch termie shoulder pads I was looking for. http://i.imgur.com/5lYGnNQ.png Second, I got some work done on the starboard broadside for my Repulsive-class. http://i.imgur.com/u6Fdu9S.png And third, in the vein of reviving old junk, I dusted this guy off. http://i.imgur.com/rc79g5q.png 5+ years ago, whenever it was I tried to save this failed old conversion, I was pretty happy with the work. Today? Not so much. I think I'll rework him some and turn him into a chaplain. Olis, Noserenda and Andvarr A 3 Back to top
Andvarr A
Correct me if I'm wrong...but is that a metal Marneus Calgar body thar? scrapshunterrorabort Sorry the old metal Lysander body.... And the metal Terminator captain revamp which was slightly cool Edited September 7, 2016 by Andvarr A
Brother-Chaplain Kage
It's an old terminator captain that's long out of print. This is the best pic I could find of the original model: http://i.imgur.com/NSv8se6.gif This is how it sat in my bitz box for years: http://i.imgur.com/IfHWcqv.png I don't remember what kind of conversion I was trying to do originally, but I messed it up bad. Five or more years ago I tried to bring it back to life with how it looks currently, and now I'm going to have a second go at it.
Andvarr A
Well your skills have improved over time, as is evidently seen, so I'm sure you may land something with it...like a chaplain as you have said, or maybe even a librarian???
Brother-Chaplain Kage
The new Limited Edition chappie everyone is drooling over leaves a bad taste in my mouth, so I must cleanse my palate with a new chaplain of my own! Besides, with the number of skulls on this guy already, it's just screaming for a crozius and rosarius.
Andvarr A
True. You know I haven't seen this new limited edition guy cos everywhere I bounce the image is broken or pages are down. Besides, sometimes a clean, minimalist conversion is what catches people's eyes. I mean, amongst, say, a clutter of high kibble content figures, one clean, crisp, minimalist figure is the one that goes "hello...pick me" Well in my thinking anyway.... Brother-Chaplain Kage
Today, I bring you a tale of two arbites. In the Rogue Trader rpg game I'm running, we each have two characters in two separate parties that are each off doing their thing for the larger goal of the campaign. My brother wanted to make an arbitrator from the Dark Heresy game, but there's a lot of room for some exploitation when advancing a DH character up to 5k+ xp, so I fiddled around a bit and made an arbiter (note the name change) using the arch-militant as a base. I also gave him a special ability based on the one from DH 2nd Ed where he can use his willpower to test for a small selection of skills important to an arbites. His character's background is that he worked undercover for an Inquisitor for some years and left his service to the holy Ordo Xenos burnt out and addicted to obscura and alcohol. Though still an arbites, his character doesn't dress like one and still does undercover work in some of the seedier places in the Koronus expanse. The base figure for this is Alister Caine from the Warmachine game. Before work began: http://i.imgur.com/qfUcZzx.png And current progress. http://i.imgur.com/wTlZrjH.png I haven't done much for the torso armor aside from the base because my brother hasn't decided what he wants the armor to look like yet. On the flip side of this coin, my brother will be running a Dark Heresy game that also ties into the RT game, and I'll be playing an arbites character as well, but there won't be any of this undercover and deception stuff. No, full on arbites armor and combat shotgun awesomeness! http://i.imgur.com/gxA8fLI.png Didn't notice the plastic dust on him before I tookthe pics, d'oh! A few more details to add and he'll be done. As you can probably tell from the jacket, he began life as the lead Chaos Cultist from the Dark Vengeance set. Here's how he looked before I got heavy into the greenstuffing. http://i.imgur.com/mVB01CY.png Those arms and that shotgun experiment didn't work out, so I modified some Cadian bits. :) Daemon2027, Augustus b'Raass, Grotsmasha and 3 others 6 Back to top
Daemon2027
I commented on the top model on the ammo bunker, soninwont repeat. Your Arbites guy is coming along really nicley. You've managed to to make him less like Judge Dredd, without losing the aesthetic. The modified cadian helm works really well.
Olis
I've run out of superlatives, brother. I think a simple "Great work!" will have to do. ... Uh... ... Great work! :tu:
Brother-Chaplain Kage
Thanks, Olis! You've managed to to make him less like Judge Dredd, without losing the aesthetic. The modified cadian helm works really well. I like everything about the arbites armor except the helmet. When I happened across the one I used, I knew I had to do an arbites figure with it at some point. I also forgot to post some of the art that inspired my choices with the second figure. http://i.imgur.com/nGILgod.png http://i.imgur.com/fREVl0U.png For those who haven't heard, Fantasy Flight Games will no longer be using the GW license to make games. While I really enjoy the 40k rpg titles they made, and I'm sad there won't be any new ones coming along, the biggest thing I'm going to miss from FFG dropping the license is the absolutely huge influx of art their rpgs contributed to the 40k universe. I have so much of their art saved on my hard drive and go through it on a regular basis when I'm hunting for inspiration. I'm already feeling the sting of the loss of the art that could have been, but I'm grateful for what we got. http://i.imgur.com/R7231iI.gif Olis and The_Chaplain 2 Back to top
Lord_Ikka
So, after a long night, I read the entire thread in one go. I must say, very impressive. I am so jealous of the skills- but it also makes me want to try stuff. Keep up the incredible work. Oh, if you want another Repulsive GC, PM me. I have one lying around just gathering dust. Mechanist
Aww man didn't know about the FF dropping GW. I did know they've started their own 28mm game so maybe they had conflicts with GW over licencing issues. The Arbites are coming along great and looking forward to more. Brother-Chaplain Kage
So, after a long night, I read the entire thread in one go. Wow, that's impressive! While I appreciate the dedication, going through all that in one setting also shows how many things I started and never finished.

Brother-Chaplain Kage
Since my hobby butterfly has hopped back onto the Inquisition stuff for now, I decided to have a go at one of my favorite pieces of art from the old Inquisition rule book (being the old 52mm game, not an Inquisition codex for 40k). This cheery fellow right here: http://i.imgur.com/2DfzKKq.png I mirrored the image to use as reference because the power fist I wanted to use for him is a righty. I have some WHFB Chaos Marauder figures from waaay back when they were brand new and thought about using one for the base, but the leg poses were a little more goofy and the musculature a little more flabby than I remembered. I chopped up the legs and straightened them out, shaved down the torso, and tried out a few pieces for this first sketch. http://i.imgur.com/kUaAfl6.png Not a perfect match to the art, but I'm not trying to copy it down to the last detail. Even though it won't really be visible when I'm finished, I wanted to sculpt in the rough shapes of the torso muscles for how buff I imagined this guy to be, starting with the upper areas. http://i.imgur.com/3xrePez.png Looking at the pics afterward I now realize I need to lengthen his legs some, but that will be easy enough to do. For his tattered hood/cloak thing, I'll probably use my tissue technique. Olis
*snip* (being the old 54mm game, not an Inquisition codex for 40k). *snip* FTFY. ;)
Daemon2027
Damn you Kage, I've been wanting to make a model based off that for ages. I can't wait to see him finished, your skill will do that pic justice. Brother-Chaplain Kage 1 Back to top
Brother-Chaplain Kage
Gah, 54mm, right. I was tired when I made that post. More work done on him. http://i.imgur.com/YdQH8LJ.pngLegs lengthened with first pass of GS done on them and the upper body shape is finished now that the arms line up with no gaps (I know there is a slight one on the right arm but it's just sitting on the pin with no glue or blue tac). He doesn't skip leg day, but the reason they're a bit thin right now is to allow me plenty of depth to sculpt in the folds of the pants at a later stage. The story I've come up with for this guy is that he is a space marine who didn't make the grade for some reason and instead of being put down or turned into a servitor, he was mind wiped and given to the Inquisition. While not as impressive as a fully trained and power-armored Astartes, he is still a very capable acolyte. Mechanist
Many failed aspirants live out their lives as chapter serfs with full memories, so if you don't want to mind wipe him he could have full knowledge of where he came from. Good start and a great concept sketch to use.
Brother-Chaplain Kage
Got some work done on the gunslinger guy during the blackout. http://i.imgur.com/hJ5w3Va.png Pants done, holster for the now modified plasma pistol on his left leg and the holster for the long revolver looking gun from the artwork on his right hip; I decided after I had already finished the pants to put a strap on the holster so I'll be going back later to resculpt the pants around the straps. The belt is some leftover solder that a I crimped flat for the tow cable holders on my Macharius tank. I would have done more, but I'm at a stopping point trying to figure out what do about something in the artwork. http://i.imgur.com/KfXaPMF.png What the feth is that stuff on his back? For years when all I had of this pic was a small version in the Inquisitor rule book, I thought it was possibly drug injectors similar to the arco-flagellant model. Once I got a marginally better look with a larger image, I thought they looked more like exhaust stacks for the generator that his pistol and power fist are connected to, but now I'm not sure. The two leftmost ones might be exhaust stacks, and the right one might be... a camera? A small weapon? A lamp? Also, originally thought they were all in a line but now I can tell the far left is in front of the middle, which is in front of the right one. Unless I, or someone else, can come up with an idea of what they might be that's good enough for me to try to replicate them, I'm just going to skip 'em. jokaero weaponsmith
I think the closest one could pass as a sword grip although that said the other one does appear to have smoke/ caper coming from it. He does look like he wold be packing a sword or two.
Brother-Chaplain Kage
They all have power cables hooked up to them with large leads... not sure that could be a sword grip.
Soldier of Dorn
Probably just random greebling, but I'm sure one could justify most of it given enough time.
Brother-Chaplain Kage
Yeah, I had considered that it was just random detailing for visual interest (I was unaware of the greeble term), similar to the all the junk on his powerfist.
