Brother-Chaplain Kage
The main reason I wanted to try the polymer clay is that you have an unlimited work time instead of a short window like you do with GS. Pearson73
Jain is looking fantastic, there's a great sense of motion in the pose and the details are coming on well. The new blade is a much better size. Brother-Chaplain Kage
After several attempts and failures at sculpting hair on Jain Zar I decided to try a hybrid and I thought the GS work looked good until I saw her magnified in the pics. Gonna need some more work on bridging the gap between the plastic and GS hair. Bryan Blaire
On the flip side of sculpting, your work on that sash looks amazing! Brother-Chaplain Kage
Thanks. Taking a closer look at it with my magnifier I think what happened is that I left it in the putty oven too long which made it swell up. I'll have to tear off the GS and try again. Brother-Chaplain Kage
Made some good progress on Karandras today, finding something I like for the leg armor and thankful that I won't have to reproduce the twisty armor on his right forearm. apologist
Fantastic work in making the shapes simultaneously new and recognisable. He really reads as an 'ur-Scorpion'. Brother-Chaplain Kage
Fantastic work in making the shapes simultaneously new and recognisable. He really reads as an 'ur-Scorpion'. A very real concern with my Phoenix Lord project is making them different but still recognizable with the 40k aesthetic and as the characters themselves and this makes me feel like I'm maintaining that balance. Absolutely stunning work! I am in complete awe of your skills with gs Thanks! Meanwhile, upper legs done on Karandras and happy with them. Not happy with the one lower leg which now looks too large after a few days of looking at it so I'll be doing that over. I may have mentioned it before in the thread somewhere, but it's always been plainly obvious to me that the Striking Scorpions are heavily inspired by the Predator and I've been keeping some of the design cues from them in the back of my head while working on the armor plates and such. apologist, Tipsy Techpriest, The Nephilim and 5 others 8 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/278032-bcks-thread-of-stuff-super-heavy/page/140/#findComment-5073815 Share on other sites

Brother-Chaplain Kage
Still alive, still trying to get my Phoenix Lords finished for the ETL despite life getting in the way the last couple of weeks. Brother-Chaplain Kage
Just a few more things left to do. I'm keeping the smooth helmet after trying 3 or 4 different ideas, including trying to make it similar to the old Incubi helmets for that sort of connection to the "fallen Scorpion Phoenix Lord" thing that may or may not exist. hushrong, Armond, Subtle Discord and 5 others 8 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/278032-bcks-thread-of-stuff-super-heavy/page/140/#findComment-5088118 Share on other sites
DuskRaider
I'm out of likes but man this sculpt is turning out great. Are you going to give him a chainsword or keep the more lithe katana-esque weapon? Brother-Chaplain Kage
No chainswords for this guy, mainly because of a story idea and also because I always thought chainswords seemed a bit too... human... for the eldar. DuskRaider
Agreed, I always found it odd that they had Eldar wielding what would be an extremely ineffective weapon (I can't imagine how much it would clog). hushrong
Karandras is looking great and I must say a smooth helmet looks good along with the rest of the armor. Augustus b'Raass
Impressive GS work as always. Brother-Chaplain Kage
Didn't you say the back muscles looked terrible? Anyway, Karandras at 95% complete now. Just a few spots to clean up on the back, get a hilt on the sword, and armor up the right hand. malcharion, apologist, The Nephilim and 5 others 8 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/278032-bcks-thread-of-stuff-super-heavy/page/140/#findComment-5091559 Share on other sites
Augustus b'Raass
Haha, no, that was you yourself being overtly critical. I actually always liked those huge muscles, as their size is realistic. You'll work over it for texture anyway, so I am not worried about that. We need the croc-thirster!Karandras looks great too, but I think he would benefit from more detail - his helmet doesn't read 'ancient' to me as it does now, plus where is his soulstone? Or is that the 5%? :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/278032-bcks-thread-of-stuff-super-heavy/page/140/#findComment-5091625 Share on other sites
Brother-Chaplain Kage
I pulled out all the crocthirster parts a few days ago and I won't be redoing the muscles on its back because I'd have to remove one of the wings because there's not enough working space between them and I don't want to do that. I'll try to start working on him some more.
