Brother-Chaplain Kage
Looks really cool actually... It's a great technique once you get it down, but if you use acrylics to do it, it works a lot better. I agree the effect is nice, but I hadn't planned on my Scars looking that battle worn. Then again... if they were off fighting greenskins for years thanks to the manipulations of the Alpha Legion, they very well could be that bedraggled. Edit: Bah, I hate it when it doesn't show me a new response was added while I was typing. Dude still looks pretty amazing I think. But I agree that it's more siegeappropriate. I was thinking on the white are you going pristine white or off white? My technique seems to come up pretty weathered but not chipped but I'm attempting a new technique for chipping simple but effective For this technique, it's best to do the chipping before any shading, highlighting, washes, other weathering, etc, so the white basecoat will be a bright white like that. I seriously doubt any of them will end up that bright, though. GhostMalone
I think due to them living speed for example jetbikes more pristine same with bikes but troops seem to be heavily involved in close combat. Iirc in brotherhood of the storm a whole khans company were based on jetbikes. So it depends on what your setting up for Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/278032-bcks-thread-of-stuff-super-heavy/page/21/#findComment-3466354 Share on other sites
Brother-Chaplain Kage
I think the jetbikes would be pretty well worn around the leading edges since any particulates in the air (dust, sand, debris... orks) would be hitting them at a very high speed. GhostMalone
True that. Thanks for the compliment, but there's much more talented people out there than me. The guy that works for Forge World, Phil Stutcinskas or however the hell you spell it, actually invented this hairspray technique back in 2006 and used it to help him win top prize at the prestigious Euro Militaire model competition. Since then, it has practically replaced all of the older methods of doing paint chipping on "real" models. THAT guy is talented. Here's a shot of that prize-winning model: http://i.imgur.com/UA8JPsZ.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/278032-bcks-thread-of-stuff-super-heavy/page/21/#findComment-3466365 Share on other sites
Firepower
There's a Vallejo product that does roughly the same thing. Can't think of the name at the moment, but I've seen a few youtube videos of people using it to weather tanks, and it was gloriously, stupidly simple. Crackle medium. I think that's the stuff. I say to them if it wasn't for you guys that I'd have thrown in the towel after the breacher captain. You're definitely one of the most enthusiastic people about the hobby that I've known. Look how many people you got into the Legion thread. Hell, you even convinced me to attempt another army. I bet once you get that airbrush, you could pull of this hairspray chipping thing after a few tests. In fact, you might want to do that for your titan. ;) There's a Vallejo product that does roughly the same thing. AK-Interactive Worn Effects and Heavy Chipping Effects is what you are thinking of Firepower. There is a Vallejo version of it - I've seen it on the big Vallejo paint rack at my LGS and several other companies make similar products. I've never tried any of them, though. From what I've seen, it looks harder to control than the hairspray version. Looks awesome though Preaching to the choir (chaplain), brother! A friend of mine wanted me to help him assemble and paint a marine bike army a few years back. I had to decline. This V Legion thing is gonna progress slowly because I want to do with my army what you have with your NLs. I'm going to sculpt a variety of helmets and have them cast, maybe even do a bunch of sculpting on the biker bodies and do the same. I want to finally have an awesome army. The V Legion was always one I hoped to see more of in the White Dwarf issues and on the forum boards, but they're few and far between. They, and the Great Crusade era, deserve the best that I can offer. I've assembled a few and don't remember having much of a problem, but that could just mean I was lucky? The first arm isn't so bad. The second one is a nightmare hell devised by the Chaos gods. Brother-Chaplain Kage
Brother sculpt some arms I've been thinking of doing that, or chopping these arms up and reposing them. I'd like to have the marine leaned forward a little more, like real bikers do when they're hauling arse. GhostMalone
I was thinking of personally doing more active poses such as tilting the bike with one arm on the controls the other outstretched with a chainsword. Brother-Chaplain Kage
Don't expect much in the way of melee poses with my jetbikers. I have a hard enough time imagining someone on a motorcycle hit another person at speed with a chainsaw and not having their arm wrenched out of the socket (or worse), much less someone moving considerably faster on a hoverbike. A power weapon, MAYBE, since it's supposed to just cleave through matter at a molecular level and I think it would just pass right through someone with little resistance at all, but still... it's one of those bits of reality I have a hard time getting past in my sci-fantasy hobby. They come standard with bolt pistol, chainsword, frag and krag grenades, and you can upgrade the sarge with power weapons. I imagine I'll have to convert an HQ to be on a jetbike. It's only proper for the V Legion. Every time I open it up to quickly read an entry three hours have gone by before I look up from the book.
