I think part of your issue is the material itself.  Those lamellar plates need hard edges to convey the impression and I think the slightly shaky lines and the slightly puffy greenstuff is giving the quilted impression rather than plated.  You may be better off with greystuff or brownstuff instead to hold that edge.  They also sand better so you can thin the plate depth out after sculpting.  That'd help mitigate the quilted look.

Once it cures, I'm going to scrape it down with an X-acto blade, and you can sand regular GS just fine. It's actually quite small IRL and the shaky lines can't really be seen until you blow it up with a photo.

So I've been sick the last several days with a sore throat, congestion, and just starting today, horrible coughing fits. Good times. I wanted to get some more work done on my jetbiker, but the near-constant coughing makes detail sculpting work practically impossible. Instead, I fiddled around with the templar, trying on a new head and arm and filling in the big gap in the abdomen. Since it will later be covered with a tabard, it didn't have to be real smooth, coughing fits be damned.

I think I like the helmet better without the crest. :blink.:

lol, well, you should have the crest in a few days. Since I'm not much a fan of the crests, I definitely like it better. I had to shave off most of the rivets from the helm due to mold lines and several of them not being completely formed, and it looks too plain now. Not sure what to add.

Maybe look for more Mongol inspiration?

And it is for the good of the nation!

I'm not suffering from anything but carbon monoxide poisoning, been welding and grinding for 4 hrs.

Yay to construction of things other then minis!!

As posted in the Legion thread, this just arrived for me:

It will probably be some time before I get to work on it, as I still want to get some Mongolian-inspired heads converted and some Scars icons sculpted onto MK III and IV shoulder pads and have them cast up for my army.

There is a lot of different styles of armor and weapons that fall under "Mongol", I'm finding out. Since they borrowed heavily from so many neighboring sources, it leaves a large range of armor differences. I'm just trying to borrow some aspects and incorporate it into the futuristic armor of the Legions.

That seems like the most logical design to incorporate.  The materials and specifics change, but most armor types I associate with that era and region are largely the same in most other respects.  Choosing that one is advantageous because it is metal plate armor, so a lot easier to incorporate into Power Armor.  The helmet in the top corner of that last picture looks like it even borrowed heavily from Roman Centurion armor.  The Mongols really got around :biggrin.:

So now that I see the reference material, yeah, all you really need is the ear flappy thing and you'll be golden :smile.:
