I figured the Dark Age minis would be out of proportion. Shame, as those pit fighter sculpts are beautiful.

The normal Tartaros is just kinds boring to me, the Legion version is a little better, and the Death Guard variant looks good. In all but the last instance, I'd still choose Cataphractii.

Speaking of, here's a little update before bed:

I'll airbrush on the Weathered Blue tomorrow, but since there are so many little nooks and crannies on this TDA, I figured it would be easier to do the reverse of my normal paint method for these guys.

A little more weathering on this guy, and attempting to come up with something that looks like faded and rain-streaked red is proving more difficult than I thought it would.

Also, I missed that last Ultramarine symbol on the weapon sling. Damn it.

Like the previous one, his chest plate, though hard to see because of the bolter, is MK IV, but I really want to paint a MK III helm with the bleeding eyes.

The only problem I'm seeing is that the mk III helmet has a higher visual profile than the mk iv.  I don't know if you need to bore the neck out a little more so it sits lower, or add bulkier shoulder pads, or a larger backpack than normal- but the proportions just seem off currently.

Like Tim Gunn always says "Make it work!"

I have some for the two TWVs, but I'll have to pick up some older power packs from eBay or something for future 40k minis repurposed to 30k.

For the near future, I'm looking at doing an apothecary, a libby, and maybe a techmarine. Maybe I should also do that thing some other people on the boards have done where I name figures for members.

*edit*

There's no back pack on him yet, but looking at the pic again, the MK III helm does seem a bit off. Unfortunately, bulkier shoulder pads would be a LOT of work on this guy.

First stage done on the second TWV, posed with the head from the marine above:

Digging around for my techmarines, I'm pretty sure I had 4 of them, but could only find 3.

I have no idea why I continued to buy them, because I never used one in a single game. The second one came in a box set, and I guess I bought the other two because they looked cool. Actually, I think I bought the last one in a clearance bin from my LGS when Finecast first came around a few years ago.

Now, the choice is which one of these to take back in time 10 millennia? The first two have an old school vibe to them, where the third feels... I dunno, too 40k, maybe?

Opinions, brothers?

Definitely, BCK, It looks great.

Thanks!

Well I may need to steal him

Yeah, no. :P

Oh and I meant to say that the first Techmarine would be a good choice, but I'd like to see you challenge the Finecast one. :biggrin.:

Oh, he's not Finecast. I got the metal one in clearance bin when the Finecast version was coming out. I shoulda made that more clear.

Slice all three into pieces, and create a Frankenstine Techmarine. It would fit the Sons look.

And that red is on point, dude. Now, how the hell are you putting the Son's symbol over that?

I didn't think about that until after I posted the photo and went out for errands and such. It also made me wonder about getting decals printed, because the icon would need to be weathered as well, and decals are sort of a PITA to do that with. Maybe a stencil? I dunno, but I'm not gonna freehand them, that's for damn sure.

Maybe if you're lucky, They'll come out with etched brass.
